How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars‘The Coral Castle – one of the modern world’s greatest mysteries’ - Fascinating fun facts
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2021
Author Bill O’Neill has authored many books on Trivia and stands as somewhat of an expert in this field! His topics include movies, football, baseball, wars, rock music, simply random trivia facts and US States. Now with a nod to providing interesting reading material while passing the time at home, Bill offers a cascade of stories that provide not only entertainment but also some educational topics!

Providing an overview of the topics of interest in this book, Bill outlines his content in the Introduction – ‘In this book, you’ll learn about some of the strangest and most fascinating facts that make our planet a truly interesting place. Sometimes you’ll laugh and at other times you’ll be horrified, but you’ll always be interested to see what comes next. Among the many interesting stories you’ll read are a slew of historical facts…Did Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid die in South America? Was Jesse James assassinated in his own home?...You’ll also learn some science facts that may seem strange but are 100% true…Strange ancient Egyptian contraceptives…Find out about some of the strangest supernatural occurrences known to humans…We also dive into some quirky tales from sports and pop culture…and plenty of stories for all you true crime fans…’

Not only is the book entertaining – it is also very instructive. For those familiar with Bill O’Neill’s talent for tickling the brain, this book is a must read – one of his best. For those who are simply looking for solid entertaining reading to while away the hours, welcome to the field expert! Highly recommended – especially during these times… Grady Harp, May 21

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as “Captivating” as I’d Like
Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2021
I have read and reviewed a fair number of trivia and other nonfiction informational books by this author. I usually enjoy them, but I wasn't so wild about this one. FYI, while the author does write trivia and other books suitable for children, this one certainly is not as it has stories about the history of birth control and unusual smuggling techniques detailing the use of certain body parts. The book has no organization and is completely random. One story simply follows another without them being under particular umbrellas like the ones mentioned in the subtitle. While the book has history, science, and pop culture “stories”, if you're looking for a particular subject, you'll have to thumb or scroll through to find your favorite topic. The author makes some illogical statements or incorrect statements here and there. For instance, in the chapter on the history of contraception, he states that prior to World War II, intimate relations were primarily for procreation, not p1easure. Say what! That’s a pretty broad statement that he could have no actual idea of! I'd like to see the data and research on that one! Many stories seem to be written to titillate rather than captivate. Not all were truly “stories,” either; for me, “story” means people, not just events or a random grab-bag of information around a topic. Compared to this author's other books, I was disappointed in this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

1.0 out of 5 stars I have read a lot of ridiculous nonsense in my time--this ranks not even close to the worst of it
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2021
Many have written about the mundanity of evil and this book is among the most mundane but is so pathetic that it is merely the most feeble of despicable trumpean ruffage. Most of this is demonstrably false and most of THAT is so patently apparent that it is not worth gainsaying. The small percentage of this that is true is such inconsequential truth that is barely worth commenting on. If you want truth, here are a fe w truthlets--The world is round, the sky is blue, we are descended from apelike creatures, there is no gods, and this book is mediocre rubbish.
