Vlad and Leila’s man mission now is to find Mircea and break the bond that is between him and Leila. When either one is cut or inured, the other feels that pain too. Mircea has been nothing but a thorn in Leila and Vlad’s side and now Vlad is determined to find a way to break the bond so that he can kill Mircea. Unfortunately for Vlad, he’s going to need help and when he turns to Mencheres for said help, he actually is given help in another form! You know who I’m talking about of course! It’s Ian! Much to Ian’s own dismay, his love for Mencheres has him doing his bidding. And let’s just say, Ian and Vlad working together doesn’t quite go as smoothly as planned!
The hunt kicks into full gear once they learn that Mircea has been kidnapped and they make a serious demand from Vlad, one that he will have to comply with unless he wishes to see Leila dead.
Like all Jeaniene’s books this one was filled with just the right amount of adventure! There’s a course our characters set on and it’s anything but easy. And there’s the ever growing fear that at any time, the kidnappers could decide to just off Mircea and thus put an end to Leila’s life as well. Then you have Vlad being Vlad who has been overprotective of Leila pretty much since their beginning. He continues to harbor secrets and do things without consulting Leila. It’s almost worrying to a point, but when you get down to the heart of it, he does what he does out of love for her.
There were quite a few surprises in this one! What is likely to be the foundation of Ian’s story is laid out. He does something drastic in pure Ian fashion and the consequences are dire. And we also get to see who will be starring alongside him in his book, a fact that is confirmed at the very end of the novel! Which only makes me more excited for Ian’s book, something I’ve been longing for ever since Jeaniene ventured to Spade’s book!
There was also new developments that I can see playing a larger role somewhere down the line. Unsaid events happened that we never really got to see a follow through on. Not saying what or naming names, but I think there might be more novel potential within these events! I may have to talk to Jeaniene again at some point! Road trip!! Lol.
I guess the only issue I truly had with the book was the ending, there’s just this little nagging bit that was left unclear as to what’s going to happen. And to me it felt glaringly obvious, like this needs to be addressed obvious, yet it wasn’t. Though I thought I detected a bit of it being answered in some way, but that could’ve possibly been in reference to another thing that happened! Vagueities, I know! Not a word either, I know! Though we did get some sort of answer to it, I just felt like it needed to be cut and clear discussed among the characters instead of leaving this poor addled reader to make assumptions!
Regardless of that, I still enjoyed this book, as I do with all Jeaniene’s books! It was as enjoyable as they all have been since day one! Jeaniene is known for writing fierce heroines who can kick butt and for their alpha males being all swoony! She packs in an added punch with all the great action scenes and tension-riddled moments! This is a world I’ve come to love and revisiting it through more and more characters eyes continues to be the highlight of my year! Looking forward to the next adventure more than you would know! I hope the adventures never stop!
Overall Rating 4.5/5 stars
This is the final book of Vlad and Leila’s story. They have had a very emotional, and a bit traumatic, story but it has made them a very strong couple who can get through anything.
While I enjoyed the end of this series, I was a bit surprised by it. I felt like Ian ended up being the focus for a lot of this book, which I know is to set up his series, but I wanted a strong Vlad and Leila story for their ending.
Ian ends up helping them find and locate the Mircea in this but as you can imagine, it wasn’t an easy journey. Leila has to put herself in danger to help Vlad, which causes a new kind of PTSD for her. Leila also has to deal with the connection between her and Mircea, which becomes unpleasant at times. Leila is such a strong woman and has been through so much during this series but she never gives up. I really love her and hope she finally gets some peace now.
Vlad really shows his ruthless side in this one. He will do anything to protect Leila, even betray his friends. I wasn’t surprised by how ruthless he could be but I was surprised by how thorough his planning was for some of these events. Vlad and Leila really have a strong bond and I think this book really shows it, especially with how Leila always seems to be able to always get through to him.
Maximus rejoins the crew for this adventure, which is nice to see since he is like Vlad’s only friend. We get some new history about Leila’s family in this one but I feel like it wasn’t very well fleshed out. It felt like the ancestors we learned about should have played a major part in this book but then didn’t. It was kind of disappointing. Also the situation with Leila’s sister, Gretchen, felt unfinished.
Overall, I enjoyed this but wasn’t expecting all the focus to be around Ian. I am sad that Vlad and Leila’s story is over but am glad they are finally getting the peace they have craved from the beginning.
Trigger Warnings: torture, death of a side character,
Leila is bound by spell to Mircea. Mircea has daddy issues that have festered over time. Anything that happens to Mircea happens to Leila and that makes for a dangerous situation for Vlad. Mircea wants to make Vlad pay. But just has Mircea has the upper hand, he has been taken and used against Vlad because of the spell that was cast on Leila.
Into the Fire is so good. It finishes this series in a spectacular way. Jeaniene Frost has brought these characters to life for me. Mencheres, Marty, Maximus and Gretchen all made appearances in this book. But Ian made a huge impression on me. He put so much humour into every facet of this book. One of the things that I loved about this book is that you really see the passion that Vlad has for Leila and that they truly love each other. Leila was very quick to stand up for Vlad even when he didn't need it.
Leila also stands up for herself. And when Vlad starts to be unreasonable and makes decisions for her, she has it out with him. One things I love about these books is that they have strong female characters. They always match their male counter parts with strength of character.
This book makes me want to read the whole series over again. I can't wait for Jeaniene Frost's next book!!!

The story starts at a cracking pace, we are plunged directly into action set pieces and yet I feel the first part of the book was padded out. So much so that I was tempted to start skipping to try to find the meat of the story. I resisted and read it properly, my reward was some of the humour and sharp dialogue the series is known for, the price I paid was having one of my least favourite characters, Ian, join the team.
After three books we think we know all about Leilas' history but in this book we find out where her power really comes from and it feels like JF is producing a rabbit out of a hat. There are some big surprises along the way regarding Leilas' family only for this thread to be shelved and tied off at the end by a throwaway sentence in the epilogue. The pace picks up just over halfway through the book, this is the bit that didn't fit into book three I believe. We get another couple of big action sequences where Leila gets to show her ability to save the day and JF sets up the new series she is writing and then all of a sudden the book wraps up. There are some serious loose ends that get a passing mention and a few that are just left hanging.
The new series will pick up on some of those threads but the main Vlad and Leila story is at an end so why do I feel unsatisfied? Possibly because after all that padding earlier on the end is rather rushed, as though JF suddenly realised she had hit her word limit and had to stop.
Perhaps this means that we are going to see a lot of this couple in the next series, if only to answer the question of what actually are they going to do about Mircea!
You need to read this book if you have read the first three, but it's not one of her best. It won't stop me trying her next series as I know she can do a better job than this, even if I have to put up with Ian.

I have had a copy on my kindle now for well over a year but wanted to reread the rest of the series before embarking on this final instalment.
Well after finally getting around to rereading and then onto this all I can say was it was definitely worth the wait and I really did adore everything about this.
Slightly sad to be leaving Vlad and Leila behind now but also ever so glad that the conclusion here to there epic love story and adventure together lived up to all my expectations, and they sure were huge folks.
I believe I have mentioned that this is one of my top vampire romance series ever so was crossing my fingers and toes that this last book would be worthy and it was.
So this was action-packed from page one it really was non-stop throughout.
This was such an integral part to Vlad and Leila's onward journey as they undertake the massive feat of attempting to break the spell that is metaphorically holding an axe over both their heads.
Vlad is using all his many wiles to extract them both from the predicament they currently find themselves in and he will do and sacrifice anything or anybody to save his beloved Leila she is his whole world.
This book was equal parts amusing but also then heart-wrenching it really was a satisfying conclusion to this ongoing saga.
As I said earlier I am sad to be saying goodbye to these two, but do also hope to catch future cameos of them again in future books set in this world.
Also looking forward to getting to know Ian better, he does intrigue me and After the way, his hand evolved here should be an interesting ride.
This was a fantastic series that I highly recommend a five-star experience all the way.

Leila is still tied to Mircea and Vlad will go to any length to keep her alive. It should have been an easier task, now that his nemesis, Szilagyi has been eliminated. It turns out that there is more going on, making the stakes even higher.
There are new players who are taking advantage of the situation between Leila and Mircea, knowing that's she is Vlad's weakness. They resort into blackmailing him in doing something that would destroy him. This doesn't leave him with much choice if he wants to spare Leila.
It's an intricate plot involving dark magic, necromancers and demons. Leila is surprised when her true heritage comes to light. It's baffling but answers a lot of her questions. She is one powerful lady! There are some brutal battles but there are some parts which had me in stitches. Vlad in disguise and the way he carries it through is something to behold. Wonderful! Ian brings so much delight to the story that I can't help but love him. I have really enjoyed this series and all the is well that ends well.
There are indications that Ian is getting his own story but what about Maximus? He has contributed so much to the series, it will be nice to see him with a well deserved happy ending!

I held off reading this as I really didn't want the adventures of Vlad and Leila to end. I've finally finished it and I'm finding this review very difficult to write. There's no doubt that this series has been fun and exciting to read and at times the drama has been truly stomach turning so as this began I was prepared for all kinds of shocks. Well the biggest shock for me was sitting here and realising that the really big elephant in the room hasn't gone away! We know that at the end of the last book Bound by Flames Leila had her soul linked to evil necromancer Mircea so if he dies she dies. Quite a conundrum for Vlad to solve but knowing it's his own stepson who has cast the spell has really stirred him up. Vlad has always been uber protective because yes he is hundreds of years old and very traditional but at times here I just couldn't believe the way he acts.
Lots of traveling around in this book and happily for this reader an explanation (finally ) as to just why Leila survived being hit by so many volts. I liked this thread as her heritage really helped to expand the story. However with the appearance of Ian who readers will recognise from the Night Huntress novels I just felt confused. Yes he's a vampire and yes he can perform magic that is against their laws but it was as if he had gone through a complete personality transplant! I've never liked him but here he acted like a tacky pantomime villain who plainly is being set up for his own redemption and book. Although I'm happy to admit the glamour he provided the big hunky guys with had me laughing out loud. So if you've ever wondered what Vlad would be like if he released his inner drag queen then here's the answer!
So it's over and favourite characters reunite to take on the big bad but it's not Mircea who is the ultimate villain as new players step up and for me that ending felt too trite unfortunately. I've loved this couple and yet I'm left thinking what? Remember that elephant? Yes as this story ends not only do I feel a bit like smacking Vlad but come on nothing has really changed. Yes I know we see a pathetic needy side to Mircea and there's what I'd call a temporary solution so I can only hope that Ian will reconnect with Vlad and Leila . I strongly suspect with help from supernatural law enforcement Ian is going to be doing his best to prove that he's a worthy hero but I'm still not convinced but if anyone can make him heroic it's Ms Frost.
