Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Terri Libenson may or may not have been inspired by her own mostly good, sometimes harrowing middle school experiences in writing Invisible Emmie. She most definitely did draw a lot during class, which worked out well, since she grew up to be a cartoonist: she is the creator of the internationally syndicated, Reuben Award-winning comic strip The Pajama Diaries and was a longtime writer of humorous cards for American Greetings. Terri lives with her husband and two daughters in Cleveland, Ohio. You can find her online at www.TerriLibenson.com.

Cassandra Morris has received critical acclaim for her voice-over work from Publishers Weekly and AudioFile magazine, earning a dozen Earphones Awards and twice been a finalist for the prestigious Audie Award for best narration. Her voice has also been heard on television in commercial campaigns and numerous Nickelodeon and Disney products. She is the voice of many cartoon characters, including Leo and Luna in Yu-Gi-Oh, Carrie in Barbie: A Fairy Secret, Nathan in Pokemon, and Lola in Angelo Rules.

Tara Sands is an American actress, television host, and voice talent who has won numerous AudioFile Earphones Awards for narration. She is former cohost of Fridays on the Cartoon Network. In addition to performing in plays and musicals, her voice can be heard on numerous commercials, audiobooks, cartoons, and video games.

Review

A well-executed twist will have readers flipping back to see what they missed while cheering the strides made by Libenson's no-longer-invisible heroine.

-- "Publishers Weekly"

Reading Invisible Emmie sums up middle school: You laugh, you cry, you get beaned in the head with a volleyball.

-- "Stephan Pastis, New York Times bestselling author"

This funny and heartfelt tale will ring true for anyone who's ever felt invisible.

-- "Victoria Jamieson, Newbery Honor author"

This is middle-grade fiction at its best. A fantastic debut novel with plenty of laughs and tons of heart.

-- "Lincoln Peirce, New York Times bestselling author"

With all-too-familiar middle-school drama and an empowering lesson about speaking up and bravely facing down embarrassment, this should find an easy audience among fans of Wimpy Kid or Dork Diaries books.

-- "Booklist" --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Poor Paperback Binding
By Media Specialist on October 4, 2018
I purchased several copies of the paperback for my school library and they all fell apart after just a few checkouts. This almost never happens--most paperbacks can survive 50-100+ checkouts before retiring from wear and tear. The problem with this book and some others like it is the glossy pages, which will not stay glued. The other problem with the book is the very ugly cracks which showed on the spine after just one reading. I read one of the copies first and I cringed to see the ugly white cracks along the spine despite my best efforts to hold the book carefully. I won't be purchasing the hardcovers as a replacement.
