To say we come from different worlds is an understatement. I'm ambitious. Professional. I keep my nose clean and my reputation impeccable. No bad choices. No bad boys.
The VP of the Ironwood Lords of Carnage? Definitely not part of the plan. But when fate slams us together, to protect someone we both care about, it's impossible to deny the heat between us.
Whoever said opposites attract? They're not wrong. He's confident and cocky. Deliciously dangerous. Definitely doable. He's fire to my ice. Bad boy to my good girl. Unfortunately for me, he's damn near irresistible. But I will resist him. I have to.
I know from bitter experience, men in general can't be trusted. Even the ones who look squeaky clean can harbor dark secrets underneath. And Rourke? He doesn't even try to hide his dangerous side. I'm so tempted to give him my body. But I'll never trust Rourke with my heart.

When Rourke visits a fellow brother in the hospital, his world is turned upside down in more ways than one. He meets a sweet little girl named Paisley that he vows to protect no matter what. And he also meets Laney, a sweet yet spicy social worker, who he can’t get out of his head. He isn’t looking for love or a happily ever after, but his heart didn’t see Laney coming, and she literally knocked him flat on his butt.
Laney decided not to go down the same road as her family. They are rich, crude, and full of hatred, when it comes to her life choices. They wanted her to be a perfect little show case daughter, but she decided that helping others is much better than pleasing her parents. Everything is going good for Laney, until a total bad boy biker crosses her path. She knows he’s dangerous and she should stay away, but she is finding Rourke has a different side than she originally thought, and she just can’t seem to stay away.
This is a very good MC book. It’s got the typical MC vibe, but it’s also so much more. I’m just glad there wasn’t sex and club girls shoved down my throat with the lead male every five seconds. I adored the connection between these two, and my heart melted watching the changes in Rourke, when he didn’t even know what was happening. I devoured this book in one sitting, and I can’t wait to read more by this author.
Rourke Powers was a patched MC member. He grew up poor and abused and had a heart for those in circumstances similar to his childhood.
Delaney “Laney” Hart was a social worker at the local hospital. She had quite the baggage through her socialite family that she left behind in her home town, but she loved helping families and making a difference.
Rourke and Laney met at the hospital. They were exact opposites in every way but had chemistry. Loveling took us through the plot conflict as well as their relationship development.
I’m a huge Lords of Carnage fan but I was craving more with this spinoff. I desired more depth and the storyline was confusing at times. It also had quite a few editing errors.
In the end, it was a quick read and introduced some of the MC members we can expect to see in the future. I’m still a huge Loveling fan; this just wasn’t my favorite to date.
First, as a social worker myself, I appreciated that the author realistically portrayed medical social work and that the author stayed away from the social worker falling for their client. The only thing I'd say.. ummm confidentially! Tsk tsk, Ms. Laney the social worker! Kidding, it made for a good story!
Second, I also appreciated that the author didn't try to downplay the dealings of the MC. I feel that a lot of MC romances go for the angle of the H trying to legitimize the MC to show that he's good rather than him being good and bad.
The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt like there was some heat missing between Rourke and Laney. I cared about them and was rooting for them, but it didn't get my blood pumping or have me sighing. Still, I'd definitely read more from this author!
Rourke is our first H in this installment and to me he’s swoon worthy the minute we meet him at the hospital visiting a brother who was hurt in a bar fight. Across the hall is a little girl named Paisley who meet in the Prologue and your heart will just break for her. So Rourke meets Paisley and the way he is with her and becomes her hero and protector. In my eyes this sweet rough man is now my book boyfriend and will probably stay for a while. We also meet Laney the Hospital Social Worker and lets just say these two are total opposites and the tension between them becomes thick very soon. Rourke becomes very protective of Paisley and he and his brothers keep watch over her while she’s in the hospital. Let’s just say Paisley’s moms boyfriend isn’t the kid friendly and is bad news. You will thoroughly enjoy watching Rourke and Laney the social worker getting to know each other and bond over Paisley.
This is s great start to the new LOC series and I can’t wait to see who our next MC Hero will be.
"I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book".
I can't speak enough about how great Daphne's books are. I can only say that once you read one, you're going to want to read more. Every book is different from one another and though there are little cameos of the Lords of Carnage in this book, you can read them all as standalones. I can't wait to see what Daphne comes out with next. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Once I started reading this book I realised I read it when it first came out but it hadn’t registered on Goodreads for some reason. I still enjoyed the book the second time round as it’s entertaining and enjoyable.
Rourke is a member of the Lords of Carnage Ironwood MC and is visiting his fellow member Bear in hospital after he was stabbed. When he hears a commotion he gets involved in protecting a young girl from her mother’s boyfriend and after spending a little time with the girl decides to get more involved with her long term protection.
Laney is the hospital social worker and she is involved in trying to help this little girl and meets Rourke during her first visit. Laney was raised to be a ‘proper’ young lady and her parents are horrified that she is a social worker as they think she should just be a society wife. Sparks fly between Laney and Rourke and they start spending time together.
I like these two characters, and their supporting cast. Laney is determined, compassionate and strong and Rourke is actually fairly similar. For two people with such different financial backgrounds, they had quite similar family situations during childhood. This makes them both protective of others. When looking at their personalities and history they are less opposite than would be thought at first.
As I said above, this is a very entertaining read. I read it one sitting and enjoyed it. It’s not very challenging and though there are disturbing subjects raised, they are handled in a way that prevents any kind of darkness to infiltrate the story. By writing things with an unclean edge the author prevents the story from being boring or twee.
I will definitely be reading the next book in the series, which is already out, in preparation for the third book which will hopefully be coming soon.

I love a great MC read & there are plenty bks put there but this , give it a miss . . Sorry
