The Isles of the Cutlass Sea: The 13th Paladin (Volume V) Kindle Edition
Ahren can hardly believe his luck. His apprenticeship finally comes to an end, and Khara’s interest in him is growing by the minute. He and his companions leave the Southern Jungles and sail westwards, this time in search of two Paladins, who are apparently living a peaceful existence on one of the Isles of the Cutlass Sea. Yet their quest proves full of difficulties, for a war among the pirates has transformed the Cutlass Sea into a bubbling cauldron, hiding its own tragic drama. While Ahren and his friends do their utmost to win over the two Paladins in their attempts to defeat HIM, WHO FORCES, the High Fang, SVEN, is nearing the consummation of his fiendish plan.

I was happy to read this book. It was slightly different from the earlier books in the series, as it really dealt with more characters, and more paladins that are brought into the fold, as well as the issues that arise from their extremely long lives. Also, this story is mostly on a ship as it travels the high seas rather than in the jungles or deserts, so we get to "smell" the brine of the sea, and "feel" the keel of the ship as it trembles under the onslaught of the waves and battles that ensue, making this a little different and exciting addition as our heroes travel to find more of their kind, vanquish evil, and help those in need. A Must read for young and old alike.

I listened through Audible. The narration was just okay. The story line was interesting but slow. The characters were getting stranger. I did like this series but now it's becoming too caotic, bizarre and outlandish. I'll pass on the next books.

This is a good series. I believe it is translated from German so there are a few grammatical errors and some inconsistencies in thought. It also may be that the translators changed between some books as they now like to use Chaps, British, in place of guys - men - boys.

I have read all books in this series and this book like previous before was fun to read. Good action and was interesting to see how Athens cohorts powers of magic or sword fighting came into play. Look forward to next book.

I'm always looking forward to these novels, I wish i could read German, instead of waiting for the translation. Big fan of the Paladins and the Magic in the story. Can't wait til spring...

This arc of the story is all about the sea, and the rise of evil boy Sven. Weitze continues to give enough description to create a palpable atmosphere you can emerse yourself in. The exploits of The Cold Woman and her sea serpent is deeply uncomfortable, as is Khara's sacrifice (she doesn't die!) - as they say in tne book, the gods might not have given her Paladin status but in every other way she is one of them.
