A beautiful love story of James and Mardi Shaw. I laughed, cried I stayed up half the night reading this amazing book..James spoke the Italian language with the best of them..Mardi kept him grounded when taking on a new adventure..Love the Italian people, the love and friendliness of these people, makes you want to return.. James and I share our home town, really enjoyed his remarks of our town and friends. A great read, would highly recommend..we want more books James Ernest Shaw..

At first, it started with interesting travel to the Amalfi Coast, but after that, it became way too sweet and adoring of everything. Granted that the traveler was in the area a few months before I arrived in June, but really the description of the Town of Amalfi was way too picture perfect and quaint. I found the town overcrowded and busy everywhere with markets and traffic as I did much of Amalfi. One thing I did discover to be true, the locals are charming.

Have taken a couple of trips to Italy we so look forward to the day we can go again. Our goal the next trip is to go into the country side and hopefully, as in this book, we will be able to spend time learning about the people and their day to day lives. I would have preferred less discussion about learning the language - he makes it quite known that he relishes the thought of accomplishing that goal. I have been married 55 years to my high school sweet heart and I understand the desire to "find each other again" over and over. I am happy for them that they did rekindle their love, though reading about their sex life seemed like I was invading their privacy. What is the saying, "to much information. I debated between three and four stars and gave it four because he succeeded in making me want to go to Italy as soon as possible and to live the Italian concept of enjoying each day we have left and to live as the Italians do even if we never get to leave American soil again.

“An Italian Love Story” was a wonderful story of Italy’s Amalfi Coast and its residents and of the adventures of the author and his wife and the rekindling of their love for each other. James Ernest Shaw’s genuine love of travel and interest in the Italian people is so evident on every page. You will want to travel to Italy after you read this book. It reminded me of my own Italian adventure and experiences. I didn’t want the book to end! I highly recommend it!

A true love story that also helps others fall in love with a country we have not been to. Hoping to visit Italy in a year, this book made for interesting notes and places we are going to visit when we get there. Highly recommend it. A wonderful love story also.

This book is very informative not only on locations, but on the emotions you feel in Italy. I traveled to Italy two years ago and would return again in a heartbeat. It truly makes you feel at home. Lucca was a lovely place I could have stayed for weeks.

Can't say that I have an opinion either way. I bought it for a friend and she totally loved the book. She is a lady who enjoys Hallmark movies and romances. I believe this fits into that category and she was well pleased with her book.

Loved, loved this marvelous account of living in Italy if only for 40 days. After I visited Italy as a tourist, his account of their visit was so immensely inviting to me. I have kept a list of the cities they loved and hope to visit one day. Thank you for this love story.

Italian HolidayReviewed in the United Kingdom on May 7, 2021
After reading the reviews I had higher expectations of this book but I found it to be a little long winded and each village described was much the same as the last. The length book could have been reduced but I live in Italy and so a person new to the country may get more out of it.

After spending time on the Amalfi Coast I enjoyed following James & Mardi's journey. Now close to retirement I would so much like to do what they did and this book has inspired me to hopefully pursue my dreams of doing just that
