It's in His Kiss (Lucky Harbor Book 10) Kindle Edition
|New from||Used from|
Becca Thorpe has uprooted her life and escaped to the beach. Now's her chance to get away from city living, throw caution to the ocean winds, and live in the moment. Especially if the moment includes the deliciously sexy surfer she meets shortly after arriving in Lucky Harbor. Something about the dark intensity of Sam's eyes and the thrill she gets at his touch convinces her to stay awhile.
Boatbuilder and investment genius Sam Brody is a self-made man who knows how dangerous it can be to mix business and pleasure. But he can't resist offering Becca a job just to hear her laugh and have her near.
Yet, when her brother comes to town asking for help, will he tempt her back to her glamorous life in the city? Or do Sam and little Lucky Harbor have a chance to win Becca's heart?

There she meets and is hired by Sam Brody, boatbuilding and one of the three men running a company that offers all manner of fun activities on the water. They need an admin person and she is totally organized. A perfect fit, right? Except that she's not supposed to do her boss, which is what happens, even though that's against Sam's rules. He has lots of rules, which Becca seems to keep violating.
Trouble is she makes the biggest mistake when she is honest with him about her feelings for him. He can't reciprocate, which means she can't stay, so she quits, but stays long enough to find a replacement and take care of the last part of her job: running the customer appreciation party. But, will Sam show her how much he appreciates her? His dad bets he won't; the woman Sam calls Mom is certain he will. But will Becca be around when he gets around to proving which one is right?
Becca is new in town, having moved from New Orleans. Trained as a concert pianist who performed with her brother, she has left that career after a disastrous performance due to extreme stage fright and panic attacks. In the meantime, she's working as a jingle writer for an advertising agency. Becca is hoping that a change of scenery and pace will help her regroup and find her muse again.
Not long after she arrives in town, Becca meets her new neighbor, boat builder Sam (aka Sexy, Grumpy Surfer). Sam is one of my favorite Shalvis heroes. He's just the right mix of moody yet lovable. At first, he doesn't want to open up to Becca but it's not long before she gets him to talk to her. It's also not long before they realize they have a strong attraction and chemistry.
After they hook up, things get a little awkward when Becca starts working part time as an admin assistant for Sam and his partners, Cole and Tanner. Sam doesn't want to mix business with pleasure, but Becca is a whiz at her job and helps the guys run their business much more smoothly. In the midst of all this, Sam and Becca find their attraction growing more every day.
There's a lot of family drama in this book involving Becca's brother as well as Sam's dad. So they each have emotional baggage that they're dealing with in regard to relationships. Additionally, Becca has some trauma from her past that's still affecting her in the present.
I adored Sam as well as his best friends/business partners, Cole and Tanner. Their banter made me laugh multiple times and I'm looking forward to reading their individual stories next. I also liked Becca's neighbor, Olivia, and I'm interested to learn more about her big secret.
While this book deals with more serious subjects and isn't the usual lighthearted Lucky Harbor book, it's a nice change of pace for the series while still remaining true to the formula. It's another story with memorable characters and a simultaneously sweet and sexy romance that I recommend.
