Awesome Sound and Build Quality

I bought this speaker to have in my bathroom so I can listen to music, podcasts, and youtube videos while I take showers. It does the job perfectly. The sound is loud enough to fill the entire bathroom and the quality is surprisingly clear. It does not sound tinny and distorted even on the higher volumes. The waterproofing is also very good as I have used this speaker for a few months in the shower without incident. The Bluetooth connection is easy to set up and it has never cut out on me once! The build quality is superb and it is surprisingly heavy for its size. There are no loose or wobbly bits and the construction is solid. The battery life is really good for what i use it for. I normally shower between 15 to 30 minutes and I only have to charge the battery once a week and a half. the battery takes around an hour to fully charge on a non quick charger. The only complaint I have is that the loop clip is not as big as I wanted it to be. Originally I wanted to mount it to the shower rod but its not as a big (see picture for reference). I finally managed to fit it on my shampoo holder and its been working out ever since.

Very poor construction.

I am disappointed in this purchase. I bought this portable speaker to play music while riding my bicycle. It performed well for about a week - good sound reproduction and healthy battery. BUT, after hitting a few bumps, the front cover fell off. (see photos) It will not go back on, so the speaker is no longer water proof. Also, it is vulnerable to dirt and street grease. If I can't get the front fixed back on, I fear this was wasted money. Alas, the following week the arm broke off and I can't use the clip to hold it on my bike. Terrible waste of money!

I just purchased this a few days ago (10.31.2020) through the limited deal option for ~40% off (-$30). And I'm blown away by the quality of this little speaker. I originally wanted this waterproof speaker mainly for my shower and bike rides. I've purchased a few other cheap Bluetooth speakers on Amazon (around $25-$35 range) and honestly, this is the one to get - whether or not it is on a limited deal!

Love how easy it is to set up and pair, no secondary app needed. The buttons are easy to find, press/interact with, and the speaker itself feels solid and well constructed. It can get loud enough to and experience very minimal bass distortion at the very loudest setting (when you're next to it, further away you can't hear the bass distortion) I put it in the furthest corner away in my small bedroom, walked away across to the living and to the kitchen and I could still make out most of the tune and lyrics. That's how loud and reliable the audio and connection were.

Lastly, I included a video to go over some other features that are nice-to-haves with iOS compatibility but wasn't expecting them. I'm using an iPhone 12 pro running iOS 14 and the battery widget picked up the speaker and showed me how much power was remaining. Additionally, when I was searching for an inexpensive Bluetooth waterproof speaker, I was hoping for the capability of controlling Siri, and wasn't clear from other reviews or JBL if it had that capability. Sometimes you want to request a song when you're in the shower, rather than relying on a specific playlist (I know, first world problems.) Needless to say, I was delighted to see that when you long-press the play button, Siri works!

I feel spoiled.

I have multiple JBL Bluetooth Speakers; Charge, Flip, and Clip. The clip is excellent for personal sound in one indoor room or about 15' diameter outdoors. It's perfect for "clipping" onto your kayak, hiking pack, bike, small tree branches, and the seamingly endless number of little nooks you'll find to place it.

My speakers get a lot of use. Indoors, outdoors, rain and shine. They sit out in the sun and get occasionally dunked in the river. I can tell you they stand up pretty well. Sand and fine dirt do stick to the fine woven exterior, but can be removed with a dusting / air compressor.

My ONLY COMPLAINT about the Clip is the spring loaded clip itself - thin, bends if abused, and would be so much better if made of stainless steel. (I imagine it's so they eventually fail and you need to buy a new one, *insert Apple products reference*). I'd much rather see an "eye bolt" on the clip as a reliable anchor point. However, by the time this clip wears out - it's well served it's purpose on a $40 budget!

Sound quality is par for what you expect of a small Bluetooth speaker. Volume is plenty loud for a personal speaker. If you plan on using the speaker for large group bonfires and larger open spaces, I suggest considering a larger JBL for increased volume and sound quality at the mild expense of portability. (Though my JBL Charge seems equally portable, except it needs a place to 'sit on' instead of clip.

All around EXCELLENT product that gets 5-Stars in it's own category. Loud enough to fill a bedroom with sound, or gather around a picnic table or campfire.

It's not fair to discount it due to it's bigger brothers features and quality, Flip, Charge, and Extreme.

Works well with lots of bass

I had another portable Bluetooth speaker but it wasn’t waterproof so I thought I’d give this a try. At first, I was conflicted because this has almost too much bass to where it seemed like the singers voice seemed not as clear (compare to my other speaker) and the bass was a bit overpowering especially in the shower. However, I got used to it and appreciate the bass now especially when I use it outside of the shower. The only thing is I wish it had legs so can stand on its own. I see you can buy a cover for it with legs but I didn’t really want to spend more on it. I haven’t used the clip feature since a number of reviews noted the clip breaks easily. I like being able to fast forward songs and have volume control on it. Would be nice if it can also go back on the track. Pairs very easily and quickly most times.

First, I bought this from Amazon so I could be confident I was getting a new, non-refurbished product, not a knock off. I had to get this particular color (Gray) so I could get a unit from Amazon that would arrive soon.

The build and sound quality of this speaker is really impressive. I have ordered two other no-name brand speakers and one sounded terrible and one was just okay. They were both not much cheaper than this one. I don't know how waterproof this speaker is compared to those others -- not planning to drop my speakers in a pool -- but the JBL looks waterproof enough for what I need.

If you are reading this review and trying to choose between this and some brand you've never heard of, definitely get this one. I've had some good experiences with brands I haven't heard of, but also a lot of bad ones.

You will get exactly what you paid for with this speaker. It can get pretty loud and the quality is good, but it is not as clear or vivid as a Bose system. But then again, you are paying about half the price of a Bose speaker so it’s worth it. It seems very well made and durable. The clip comes in very handy when you are outdoors and want to attach it to a tree branch or chain link fence. The battery life seems very good as well.
Long story short, if this speaker is just for personal everyday use or for parties or gatherings with friends and family then it’s great. But if its intention is going to be for something where the sound quality matters, then pay more and get a Bose.

Unexpected weird behavior

I play Audible books through my Sony NW A55 Walkman. I wanted to play the books for an hour as I fall asleep, and I was hoping to use this speaker, either by Bluetooth or hard-wired, to speak the Audible books to me. (I divided the MP3 file of the book into multiple one-hour segments.)

However, when a segment finishes playing, the speaker does not go dead, as I would expect. Instead, it plays some type of midway/carnival music, which wakes me up. I see no way to correct this.

Also, I am not sure that the Bluetooth connection is of the highest quality. If I move either the Walkman or the speaker (they are a couple feet apart), significant static is injected into the speaker during the movement.

Apart from those two features, the speaker has excellent sound.

I wasn't a fan of portable speakers until I met these. I absolutely love this device.
Size is perfect to carry around, connects super easy via Bluetooth or 3.5 mm jack, and water resistance is perfect if you plan to it to be a shower speaker.

Sound quality and volume is amazing for the size, with great clarity. It doesn't distort at max volume.
Bass is good, but starts to feel attenuated from around 80-90hz and gets inaudible at 45hz so this is no bassy at all. It can be tweaked a bit with an EQ on your phone, but don't expect miracles either. You can also place it near a corner or a wall to increase the bass a bit. This can fill a small to medium room easily at a nice not-over-the-top volume.

For a palm-sized device, this speaker has great quality and volume sound. My teenage son loves it. Initially I bought for him so he can stop taking his phone in the shower, he now carry’s this speaker everywhere. It is indeed waterproof and made durably. It looks pretty cool as well. I really like the clip which many portable speakers do not have. I’m not sure of exact battery life, but I do know it will play for several hours before needing a recharge. Great gift idea!

Depending upon one's needs, you might find this little speaker useful. My Clip 3 is used solely for listening to podcasts. I also bought an additional TXE cover for it. The frequency response isn't completely flat but it's still not bad (for podcast audio). I'm rather picky regarding mics and speakers and almost always EQ my home monitors for spoken word. If you're a basshead looking to play music...forget it. Incidentally, with the cover, you can listen to the Clip 3 in an upright position. I have a second Clip 3 solely for MP3 use in the car. They've worked out well for me. One caveat is that it would be nice to have longer battery life. It's okay, not great. All in all though, very pleased for my non-music purposes.
