Jackal Emerson has never taken himself seriously. Dubbed the “orgy king”, he’s renowned for his reputation as the wild End Man. But with the uprising on the horizon and his best friend missing, Jackal is having a hard time living the same carefree existence.
And then he meets a thief and everything changes.
Phoenix Moyo, principal dancer of a notorious ballet company, lives a life of rigidity. When her world collides with Jackal’s, their chemistry is evident to everyone except her. Forced to work with him to steal the most precious commodity of the Regions, she realizes too late that there is no escaping Jackal’s charisma.
When unimaginable crimes come to light, the Regions begin to crumble. No one is safe. Families divide and secrets are exposed, danger running rampant on every side. For some, sacrifice costs everything.

Once again, Fisher and Aster have made me consider things I have the privilege of not having to worry about in my own life. Things I feel passionately about yet haven’t considered from all angles. This entire world they’ve created is so unique, yet there are so many things I see in it that parallel the world we live in today. Between the babies being ripped from their mother’s arms because they weren’t born to the ‘right’ people, to people fleeing from the oppression they never asked for, to people being imprisoned for minor offenses because they don’t agree with the oligarchy they’re ruled by, it was a stunning piece on the horrors we are facing and will likely suffer if we don’t make our voices heard.
Jackal surprised me. I, much like Phoenix, had him pegged as a person lacking substance, I never considered that he was playing a role, being the person the society he lived in wanted him to be, I just assumed he was a shallow as he looked. He impressed me at every turn, from his intelligence to his childhood, to how overwhelming his compassion was when he was invested in something, Jackal was an impressive specimen for all the reasons the world he lived in never acknowledged. When he was Phoenix – who was freaking amazing, I loved how she knew her shortcomings and her strengths, and never made an excuse for any of them – they had a fascinatingly antagonistic dynamic that lent a little levity to an otherwise book full of heavy subject matter.
After finishing Jackal, I immediately wanted to go back and start Folsom over. These books are so all-consuming I’m sure there are details I’ve missed, breadcrumbs I didn’t pick up on, things I overlooked in favor of my affection for the characters. The End of Men novels aren’t stories you read; they are words that consume you, a world that will take you hostage and leave you reeling when you’re finally free.
After reading Folsom I was sure I couldn’t be more impressed with Tarryn Fisher and Willow Aster, but I was so blown away after this book, I can’t imagine there is a ceiling for them to hit, they’re just going to keep pushing themselves higher and higher. I am particularly enamored with how gracefully they toe the line of making a statement on the world we live in without alienating readers who may not have the same strength of conviction they do. They both write books that have something beyond a good story to leave with their readers, and for that, I love them.
I have been anticipating book 2, but not for Jackal’s story. I actually wanted more Folsom and Gwen. Those two had chemistry. Instead, we are introduced to Jackal and Phoenix. I wouldn’t say they have chemistry, but they have a physical attraction to one another.
Jackal, the orgy King didn’t have the same angst build up as Folsom. He is a different man than Folsom. Folsom was awakened by love. While Jackal was awakened by curiosity.
When humans are compared to animals, insects, and mammals for sexual reproduction it’s an interesting distinction especially when you factor in pleasure. Humans reproduce with the intent of feeling the orgasmic pleasure. Humans don’t have intercourse for the sole purpose of reproducing.
I bet there’s an equation to the reason for birthing male babies. I’m going with love. When Love is absent the sperm is unable to produce a male having something to do with the hormonal and testosterone balance at conception. I’m also considering that the shots given to them to control sexually transmitted diseases might be lowering sperm count.
This Revolution has awaken Jackal allowing human emotion to flood back into him. In the past he had been conditioned to perform routinely in a fog like state of mind. Now he is seeing the regions in a new light. I liked Jackal. He had redeemable qualities.
This story educates you about the powerful people ruling the society.
Book 2 didn’t always hold my interest it had its moments. Book 1 was ground breaking so creating a follow up book that compares to Folsom wasn’t simple. The approach to each book is different. While Folsom got the ball rolling in book 1, book 2 prepares the End Men for a battle that will destroy regions.

Again?
JACKAL—what happened?
When I heard about FOLSOM I preordered and delved into the story as soon as it was on my kindle. I devoured it and was left thinking of nothing but Gwen and Folsom for days after.
I tried to be calm while I waited for Jackal and then ... I once again, dived head-first into the End of Men world again.
I tried to read it slowly, really I did. But when a book consumes you, you don’t get a say, you merely do what the book and characters demand of you.
I have just finished and WOW! Once again my emotions have been pulled apart and my heart shattered to millions of tiny pieces and now? Now I have to wait!
I found myself falling for Jackal pretty fast. His cocky arrogance and charm had me smiling from the first page. Phoenix—so aptly named by the way—was a fierce female lead who I adored. I have to admit a kick-arse female is something I love in books.
I said in a previous post that I can’t fully understand how a story set in modern times can confuse me yet this world I understand and can picture so vividly. I get it now.
The way these two authors paint a picture of a world we have no understanding or experience of, yet understand, is incredible. Through their words and the way they weave the threads of this world is phenomenal and I can’t find the words to adequately express how exceptional this story is.
If you want something different, something that will challenge you to think differently about the world and a romance story that isn’t typical, I urge you to download this story, and Folsom.
5 STARS FROM ME!

Folsom was the unassuming gentlemen, and we loved him for it, whereas Jackal’s outward humour and absolute genius one liners, added with that of his inner dialogue and charisma will no doubt have you wrapped around his little finger. And yes, in true Fisher style your heart will ache for the little boy that was Jackal.
Cue Phoenix—if there is something both these authors have it’s the ability to create strong female characters and boy did they deliver with Phoenix.
I wasn’t sure how they’d pull it off, not when Gwen was a force to be reckoned with—but they did. Phoenix’s attributes and strength coiled with her vulnerability and flaws only make her even more relatable.
Let’s mention the animal facts, bloody bravo...where did you even conjure this idea—oh and thanks for the millipede one those little critters freak me out, and give me the heebie-jeebies.
I have so many unanswered questions, if I could sit down in a room with both Tarryn and Willow the conversations would be endless.
All I know for sure is I can’t wait for book three, what are they possibly going to throw at us next? Who knows, anything is possible. But what I do know is I stand with the End Men, with the Revolution and the Rise of the Women.
This right here is a dystopian romance collaboration of epic proportions and I applaud both Fisher and Aster for publishing not only one but two books within a month of each other.
Bring on Kasper, I’m ready when he is!!

This book was another hit. Another emotional, angsty, anxiety filled thrill ride that will make you laugh, cry, shout with joy and groan because yep, it's another cliff hanger.
We get SOME answers that we wanted in Folsom, but we certainly didn't get any of the endings we requested, or at least the endings I wanted.
Another seamless read with no markers to differentiate between writers, I'm really curious how they managed that.
Going in I thought Jackal might be an ar$e, but he isn't. He's a smart ar$e - that's different, and I love him for it! Phoenix is a little uptight for my liking. Maybe it's her background. She certainly had more in common with Jackal than Gwen did with Folsom. The sex was just as hot though!
I guess in reality we can't compare the 2 books, I mean we don't compare our children, suffice to say it was an excellent follow up to the first book in the series and is leaving me wanting more. Cue Kasper.

I really liked it, and fell a little inlove with Jackal.
