The Jade Egg (The Chain Breaker Book 2) Kindle Edition
After capturing the sorcerer called the Apostle, Gavin decided to remain in the city of Yoran where he’s become comfortable. Work that had been plentiful has dried up and comfort becomes complacency.
While new friends help to find jobs, they’re not the kind of jobs an assassin trained to be the Chain Breaker should take. He’s trained to kill, not track down relics in a city that long ago banished magic.
When pushed to save a young boy, Gavin finds himself dealing with much more than he bargained for. A sorcerer known as the Mistress of Vines has come to Yoran. In order to stop her, he must come to understand a part of himself he was trained to ignore.
It will take an assassin without equal to stop the Mistress of Vines.
Only this time, the Chain Breaker might not be enough.

Gavin Lorren is still in town. While Gavin is thinking of moving on, his friends have foisted a job on him, that includes saving a child, and he is persuaded to accept the job. In the meantime, Gavin watches as some apparent thieves steal an item from a carriage in the middle of the day. The apparent theft is so brazenly executed that Gavin isn’t even sure of what he saw.
After accepting the job of finding and rescuing the child, strange things happen and Gavin and his crew begin to think there is more to this rescue than meets the eye.
Thus begins another chapter in Gavin’s life. Not a typical job for him, the rescuing of a child, Gavin seeks to untangle the mystery of what is really going on. The more involved he gets, the more tangled the web. If you enjoyed the first book of this series, you will most certainly enjoy this tale. It is well-written with strong characters, great world development and some twists to boot. Pick up your copy and get involved with Gavin. You’ll be glad you did.

This may seem a bit backhanded but the stories involve unusual invention and layers of intrigue that are worth following.
