While laid up following tonsil surgery, I downloaded Josh's "Jailhouse Strong: The Successful Mindset Manual". In three days I've read it twice. It's right up there with any of the best selling business or self-improvement books that I've read. More than that, this book IS what so many others are not: CONCISE!
It's clear that Josh knows how to communicate his mindset and experience to help others achieve their goals. It's also clear that Josh is well-read in the field of success and brings the best insights from this genre into one easily accessible handbook.
This book is the companion to Jailhouse Strong and is dedicated to developing a successful mindset. Keeping with the jailhouse model, Josh starts with the notion of one breaking free from one's personal imprisonment. He progresses from there to harnessing the power of belief and developing and maintaining a growth mindset. The following three chapters are laid out to help you step-by-step to define your goals, prepare your mind to achieve your goals (while training ) and get the best performance when the moment comes for you to compete (or to achieve your goal).
In reading this manual, I've picked up several gems and I've been introduced to new concepts about strength and visualization. For instance, I've never put the time effort into success visualization before training or before a meet. In this manual, Josh is a compelling proponent of it's use and he gives incredibly clear instructions on how to use it. I'm going to incorporate it into my routine TODAY.
The bottom line: Reading this book was a good use of my time and I learned some things that are going to take my training and day-to-day living to the next level. Thanks to the Kindle format, I'll be able to reference it repeatedly as needed. What more can I ask for?
Strong work, Josh. Thank you.
Where the authors delve into more practical advice is talking about visualization, which seems like the whole point of the essay. There may be better teachers on the subject.
Also, there are a couple of logical contradictions here and there, but I don't think they undermine the main thesis. Simply, the writing meanders from idea to idea. Sometimes it meanders a bit too far (e.g. dwarf-tossing???? Really?)
This is a powerful read. It’s short and straight forward and hits home. No matter if you’re an athlete, business man, or a regular Joe, this book can benefit you in some way. Look past the marketing (towards athletes) and take the material for what it is as it can easily be applied to every single aspect of your daily life. If you’re looking for something to inspire you to reach that next level this is the book for you. For the same price as a chocolate bar, there is absolutely nothing stopping you except you yourself which, funny enough, is what this whole book is about.

Lacks point and focus. One minute it’s telling me it’s about business and the next a cage fight.
There isn't much books these days which you can find direct knowledge, jailhouse changed my life before and after training.
