About Jami Taylor
Her primary works are in Historical Fiction with supernatural or paranormal elements. Having grown up in the American South, there was rarely a story told in her family that didn't involve ghosts or magic, and this is reflected in her work. She has also published Science Fiction in historical settings and pure Fantasy Fiction.
In addition to traditional full-length novels, she is keen to provide short reads to her online audience, either as stand-alone stories or as part of a series. Sometimes a quick read is exactly what someone needs in today's fast-paced world.
She is a full-time Humanities faculty member at a local college in southeastern Virginia where she lives with her husband, daughter, two spoiled dogs, and a mischievous cat. If she could fit a Friesian in her back yard, she would definitely have one.

Inspired by the true story of Grace Sherwood who was convicted of witchcraft in the Virginia Colony in 1706, J. M. Taylor's debut novel is filled with enchanting characters hiding dark secrets.
"Loved it! The Magic of Fireflies, based on actual events, is an engaging tale of love, betrayal, and adventure." - Lisa Henson, Reedsy Discovery
There is magic in the light of fireflies - at least that is what Avalena Grey had been told as a child.
Not that she had ever thought anything about magic, until her mother is accused of witchcraft and dragged to a fiery death by an angry mob. And then everything changes.
Thomas Blackburn offers her shelter at Galen Cottage, but the Virginia Colony an ocean away promises a new life. No one will know her there. It's a chance for a new start, far removed from any association with witchcraft.
But it isn't long before the quiet life in Princess Anne County is disrupted. Accusations are made against a local woman suspected of being a witch, an old enemy longing for revenge arrives, and Avalena learns that she is not the only one who has been keeping secrets. There is a witch among them, and magic is more a part of her than she could have ever imagined.
A gripping tale of love, murder, and betrayal in antebellum North Carolina.
In 1853, Reverend George Carawan was arrested for murdering the timid schoolteacher Clarence Lassiter in the small town of Rose Bay, North Carolina. The subsequent trial was a media sensation at the time, with the story being reported in newspapers as far as London, England. The idea of a well-respected preacher shooting an unarmed schoolteacher would have been enough to gain an audience's attention, but Reverend Carawan was thought to have done many more sinister things in his lifetime, all of which he found necessary in order to maintain his position of power and wealth in the community where he had made a name for himself.
Beneath the Splendor tells the story of what might have happened to propel these tragic events just as the corroded foundation of the South began to crack in the years before the Civil War.
Mary knows she should resist the advances of the charming Reverend Carawan, but she doesn’t. All she has ever known is life as a domestic servant, but she has always wanted more. When he proposes marriage while his first wife still clings to life, she accepts. After all, he is the wealthiest and most influential man in Rose Bay, North Carolina, and everything she has ever dreamed of seems within reach. Finally, it is her chance to experience the life she has always been denied in the self-proclaimed glorious South.
Unfortunately for Mary, it isn’t long before Reverend Carawan's blatant infidelity and violent outbursts shatter the majestic life she had once imagined. He preaches the Word of God, but she only finds true salvation in the arms of the new schoolteacher Clement Lassiter. He is everything Reverend Carawan is not and restores her hope for a better life. But Reverend Carawan doesn’t tolerate anything that might tarnish his good name or jeopardize his standing in the community. He is a dangerous man when angry, but when threatened, he is deadly.
Having been enamored by what the world seems like rather than what it truly is, Mary finds herself bound to a life not worth living, but a ghostly encounter enlightens her to what lies beneath the splendor, and along with others who have been forced to live in the shadows of the South, she is hopeful that Reverend Carawan will be brought to justice.
"Well-paced and ornamented with hints of lovely prose, Wolf Moon proves an engaging start to a female-driven fantasy series."
- Hannah Grendale, Reedsy
WOLF MOON is the first book of the epic fantasy series Violet of Ravenwood. Violet is a young witch on the brink of womanhood, but her desire for independence seems impossible. Her mother's former coven wants them both dead. In a world where the laws of the coven rule, Violet's future is in constant danger until the truth is revealed.
The time has come for the coven to tell their legend of swords and sorcery.
I know what it feels like to be unwanted and what it is like to be hunted. My name is Violet, and my mother's former coven wants me dead. What better sacrifice than the daughter of a witch who broke one of their most sacred laws?
My mother doesn't plan to let them take either of us, so we have spent the first eighteen years of my life on the run, with no friends and nowhere to call home. I am tired of it and ready to stay in one place. Fighting is not an option, or so I am told. But what is the purpose of having power if I am not allowed to wield it?
The Wolf Moon will rise in the winter sky soon, and just like every year, we will be on the move again. The coven's leader will be stronger, her ability to hunt us even greater. I am afraid, as I should be, but when two mysterious strangers find us, I realize my mother has been keeping secrets. I am not what or who the coven believes me to be. I am even stronger than I thought, and feared more than I could have ever imagined.
Violet of Ravenwood Book 2, Ravenwood, is available now.
The time has come for the coven to tell their legend of swords and sorcery.
In this second book from The Violet of Ravenwood Series, J. M. Taylor continues the female-driven epic fantasy of Violet and her coven as they fight to save their beloved Ravenwood from the clutches of a tyrannical warlock and his clan.
Amidst the chaos of a divided coven, Violet learns an unexpected truth that should finally set her free. But Wilhelm, warlock leader of the Borthen Clan, has other plans for her. Now, nothing is more important than reclaiming Ravenwood and reuniting the coven, not even her unexpected feelings for Ronan, a Son of Lilith whose heart beats again for her and her alone.
Ravenwood is more beautiful than I ever imagined, except it no longer belongs to my mother’s coven. Instead, Wilhelm and his army of warlocks from the Borthen Clan have seized it. If the coven attempts to take it back, the Borthen Clan is prepared to fight and more than willing to make Mire Witches of their prisoners, bending them to their will and forcing them to serve Wilhelm even in death.
To strengthen his position, Wilhelm forces me to marry his son Malin and tricks me into relinquishing my most precious gift. He is determined that his son will one day rule over all beings, especially the kingdoms of men. However, Malin doesn’t share his father’s cruel ambitions, and he is even less interested in being with me. He loves another, but if his father learns of his true love, he will destroy them both.
If we are going to survive, Malin and I must join forces and call upon the Children of Lilith and the Coven of Ravenwood to fight along with us.
