About the author

Jamie Oliver is a global phenomenon in food and campaigning. During a 20-year television and publishing career he has inspired millions of people to enjoy cooking from scratch and eating fresh, delicious food. Through his organization, Jamie is leading the charge on a global food revolution, aiming to reduce childhood obesity and improve everyone's health and happiness through food.
Jamie started cooking at his parents' pub, The Cricketers, in Clavering, Essex, at the age of eight. After leaving school he began a career as a chef that took him to the River Café, where he was famously spotted by a television production company and the Naked Chef was born.
He has now published 23 bestselling cookery books, all with accompanying TV shows. Jamie lives in London and Essex with his wife Jools and their children.

The many gorgeous color photographs both instructional and aspirational, give the holiday season clarity. If all this seems breathless, it doesn't begin to address the comprehensiveness of this superb work. A friend half-heartedly complained that Oliver neglected Christmas breakfast. The book was large and heavy enough without another 28-page section. Besides, it would be churlish to demand anything else. Here is an all-in-one guide to providing the very best feast you can for your family and friends. Give it as a gift, and find a place on your shelf for invaluable advice on getting it on the table for all your holiday seasons to come
*Sigh, this is where the 3 Vs 5 stars comes in. I wish I had bought this cook book in the UK because this one has American ingredients. Example, the best Yorkshire Puddings and Roast Potatoes I have ever had or made were with goose fat. Now I know, that probably isn't the easiest to come by in the US, but surely it's not that hard either. But to say to use vegetable oil for them??! I dare say Jaime has never made a Sunday or Christmas Roast using vegetable oil.
Its a cookbook. So I want to know what ingredients the chef is using to make the food in the recipes and pictures. I can then source those ingredients or I can substitute as I see fit. What I don't want or need is some editing company going through and changing it all to American ingredients.
For that reason, it's a 3 star for me. I probably would've returned it if it hadn't been a gift to me.

I have every one of Jamie Oliver’s books and the one I always go back to for simple, everyday ideas is ministry of food (the Yorkshire pudding recipe has never failed me yet!).
This book tops it by far! I literally want to make every recipe I’ve read so far and I will definitely use this book throughout the year, not just at Christmas. There are some great vegetable recipes to spruce up Sunday lunches and so many ideas for everyday meals and special occasions.
I nearly didn’t bother with this book because I’ve got a few Christmas cookbooks already and I thought I’d got a cooked dinner pretty much perfected but I cannot wait to up my game this year thanks to this book!

The variety of recipes in the book is excellent, with many that are not just for the festive season (unlike Nigella’s Christmas book).
So to begin with a summary, if you like the sound of the recipes (I have posted a FULL RECIPE LIST at the end of my review), you will LOVE this book. And if still unsure there are some of the recipes available on Jamie’s website to try before you buy, with images too.
And now for those that want it… here’s a bit more detail…

As stated before, there is a huge variety of recipes so I am sure I will be cooking from this book throughout the year or dipping into it for inspiration even in the summer months as some of the salads look very tasty indeed.
My only minor criticism is that I have noticed a couple of duplicated recipes (such as the Christmas Bomb), but to be honest there are so many other recipes in the book that I still feel very glad to have this book as an addition to my rapidly growing recipe book collection.
So all in all Jamie has done it again for me, a high quality book with a fantastic range of recipes that are accessible. Would make for an excellent Christmas gift for any JO fan. Fantastic.
