I quite like the Jesse Stone series with Tom Selleck. Good plot, great cast. I hope Amazon will make the other episodes available for 'free' under PRIME.

There are several details that make this series seem real and certainly a handful that make it not-so-believable, but it's a genuine pleasure to watch an adult-minded story.
The way these film-length episodes play out showcases the quality casting, directing, effective lighting, and somber film score. Not to mention the useful crafting of the script and Selleck's skill at portraying the Jessie Stone character.
The depiction of alcohol use to manage mood is a police work reality. Broken marriages. Dating people who work in law enforcement... t'is all very accurate to the culture.
Selfish, arrogant criminals do exist and they do tend to keep doing what they have been getting away with. So, it's not a stretch to have the bad-guys be as-shown in this project. The series is wonderful and it's a damn shame Showtime didn't want to pay for a few more. Selleck would have done it.

4.0 out of 5 starsA quiet way to enjoy a day...........

We watched the Jesse Stone movies on tv and were happy to find Stone Cold on Prime, the only Jesse Stone movie free to prime members. There is one "bedroom" scene that had been edited, I think, out of the tv version. I could have done without it here, hence the 4 instead of 5 star rating. But fast forward and voila! The music, the pace, the inner life of Jesse Stone are what make this - and the other Jesse Stone movies - great. If you are looking for fast action, deep suspense, surprises that make you jump this won't be it for you. But the laid back pace and the Jesse Stone character make this movie perfect for a cool, rainy, snowy day - just perfect.

There is a bedroom scene which some will not want their young ones to see.
I don’t know when I have seen a bad Tom Selleck movie. They may not be blockbusters, but they are almost always very watchable and entertaining. This one had good production values and pretty good acting across the board. The story dragged a little here and there, and there is no mystery since the killers are known early on. The only mystery is how the Chief of Police (Selleck) is going to prove it. It is a dark movie, both in mood and in filming. Selleck’s character is something of a ‘lost soul’ in search of…whatever it is lost souls are in search of. But that seems to resonate with many.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Solid Five Stars for this TV Movie

I have watched this TV movie about a half dozen times over the years on cable TV and was delighted to see it available on Prime. I see that another Jesse Stone movie, Night Passage, is available, but, alas, not on Prime.
It, too, is well scripted, with the same well-developed characters and very interesting stories. Wish there were more movies in the Jesse Stone series. Highly recommend, especially to Tom Selleck fans!

3.0 out of 5 stars7/10 stars -- Like a very well made TV detective drama, but subtly deeper

7/10 stars means this movie is above average and entertaining, all the way to the end... I could even watch this again, in a few years (somewhat rare). A '7' is solid entertainment, but not among the best movies of all time.

The movie comes off as a somewhat subtle, but straightforward murder mystery. If broken into 2 parts, it could easily be a well written TV cop drama (indeed, one actress does appear in 'Bosch', which is excellent). The subtleties seem to be focused on types of people, and how they interact -- things a perceptive person will have noticed, in life. In this sense, the characters are authentic and interesting.

Actually, now that I mention Bosch, I think that fans of the series will also enjoy this movie. Also, fans of Stallone who might enjoy something a bit more sophisticated.
