“I LOVE to give people The Jesus Storybook Bible because from the very first chapter it paints a powerful picture of God’s epic love for each one of us. Sally Lloyd-Jones has a unique way of inviting the reader, young or old, to dive in and discover for themselves the truth and hope of the greatest story ever told.” – Amy Grant |
“I would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian–from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God’s revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning–a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned.” – Dr. Timothy Keller, NYC (Dr. Timothy Keller) |
“Sharing the Gospel with The Jesus Storybook Bible has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.” – Ann Voskamp |
“The Jesus Storybook Bible is as theological as it is charming… a very grown up children’s Bible.” – Christianity Today |

Some time ago, a boy called Jago arrived here on Earth with a burning ambition to be ....
Superman, Indiana Jones, or quite possibly King Arthur.
After a little hard work and an awful lot of drawing he settled on his fourth choice of career, illustrating children's books, something he reckons he could be quite good at one day.
He lives in a slightly damp wetsuit in Cornwall with his fantastically lovely wife Alex, beautiful daughter Lily Peach and small round son, Rudy.
I am represented by the wonderful Ronnie Herman at The Herman Agency in New York.
Please contact her (ronnie@hermanagencyinc.com) if you have any enquiries about working with me
Methods
I work almost entirely digitally, using a couple of Macs and an iPad in a secret blend of the finest textures, papers and digital paints. I could tell you how I make each picture, but then I'd have to kill you.
I enjoy working on children's books and am drawn to stories with a hint of eccentricity.

I highly recommend this print edition over the original because it is designed to hold up better, which the original unfortunately did not. Great kids bible content and illustrations, well worth owning.
With the new The Jesus Storybook Bible (Keepsake Gift Edition), there are just a few changes. The cover is a beautiful blue cloth-like textured hardcover with gold foil accents. The book is also bigger and offers larger page sizes (about 1 inch both in height and in width). The illustrations and text are all just scaled up (which means it offers larger illustrations and a larger font size), which is great for reading to a family and/or group. This edition remains the same thickness/page count as the previous editions.
Our family started out with The Jesus Storybook Bible in the Deluxe Edition (with CDs) - and we have loved it! We keep the CDs in the car at all times and have loved reading the book together.
If you have not yet experienced The Jesus Storybook Bible - it is fabulous! It is a storybook Bible, so you need to keep in mind that this is written as a "story" and the author may take some liberties in descriptions of events, etc. What I love is that every story finishes with a tie back to Jesus. Even as an adult, I have learned from The Jesus Storybook Bible, and I love that my kids have it as part of their foundation.
I would love to see the larger book size of The Jesus Storybook Bible (Keepsake Gift Edition) paired with the audio CDs as a set - that would be the best combination, in my opinion.
FTC Declaration: The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book or advanced reading copy. This does not change the fact that I will give my honest opinion in my reviews.
The pictures are fantastic, and this version is FAR more readable than many others I've seen over the years. I'd say it tops out at age 7 or 8, so this also isn't a beginner's study bible. But for a simple "read aloud time" or bedtime story bible, it's excellent.
I'm a Calvinistic Baptist. If you are heavy into old school Covenant Theology and hang out in groups and cry 2CV! a lot, this is clearly not the book for you. I reject the notion that Lutheran and Methodist bros are sinning and idolatrous simply by having artistic representations of the Godman Jesus Christ, so I'm fine with that part.
Pro: This book is not a collection of isolated stories. It is essentially a sermon of Luke 24:44. All Scripture points to Jesus. The point of David and Goliath is not slaying your own giant. It points to Christ crushing the head of the enemy of God. Same for other events in the OT. This does a great job at displaying this
Con: Some of the details are a bit hazy. There is a bit of reluctance to identify behavior as "sin" or God's wrath against sin. And sometimes the paraphrases are very poor. For the section on the Lord's Prayer, I skip what is written, as it has little in common with the actual prayer in Matthew's gospel. (My kids sing the prayer every night anyway.) Just be advised some language is sloppy and may need to be cleaned up as you go. But it is not nearly as bad as most kids story Bibles.
Highly recommend this. Also recommend Kevin DeYoung's THE BIGGEST STORY and Timothy Brindle's album THE UNFOLDING, which also demonstrates how Christ is foreshadowed in the entire Old Testament.
I honestly don't know what it is about this bible... But it's clearly got the interest of children, very well. Because I wouldn't have picked it for them... And yet it's their absolute favorite. I've already had to replace it once, not because it's poor quality, it's great quality... But because my kiddos look at it SO MUCH... They've literally wore it out...
Great bible.
