About John Hindmarsh
John Hindmarsh was born in 1785. From Wikipedia - Rear-Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh RN (1785 – 1860) was a naval officer and the first Governor of South Australia, from December 1836 to July 1838.
During the Battle of the Nile on 1 August 1798, the fire on board the French line-of-battle ship l'Orient put the Bellerophon (1786) in danger; all the other officers on the quarterdeck on the Bellerophon were killed or wounded, so 13-year-old Midshipman John Hindmarsh gathered some of the crew, cut the anchor cables, and raised a spritsail to get the ship moving.
You realize I write fiction? The above is all true - except I'm a different John Hindmarsh.
Yes, I write science fiction and thrillers, sometimes with crossover. Well, you need a thrill in your SF and an occasional touch of science in your thrillers. I'm Australian, and now live in Southern California, where I'm writing full time. I could be simply relaxing when I'm not writing.
My books generally are written with an American voice [well, I try], although I prefer to write British English. So I get mixed up - in any event, I claim aluminium is the correct word.

Blog postThe last year or so has been challenging, more so than you might think. It’s why I haven’t written much in the way of blogs, although that will change. I’ll tell you my story, and hopefully, by sharing the details, my experience will help you when, or if, you encounter your adversity.
Background Some background information, first. Since I stopped engaging in IT consulting assignments at the end of 2012 (with a brief exception), I’ve lived in California in the High Sierra region with m4 years ago Read more -
Blog postYes, finding readers is the most critical task for a writer who has just published his first eBook – so I thought I would call on the assistance of the world’s best-known detective – and give him the task of finding my missing reader – and I agree, it is one of the worst puns… So let’s see what happened as we join Dr. Watson and Holmes.

Blog postThere is a lot of current pressure – editors, writing groups ? to use ‘said’ almost exclusively as your standard dialogue tag – this is regarded as a ‘rule’. However, after a while he said/she said becomes totally boring [think audio book with he said/she said all the time…].

I wrote my first book years ago, typed it up, and left to hibernate in my garage. Titles By John Hindmarsh
Jack Foster is missing.
A distant planet roasts in the sun.
Not all its properties are known to the Omega Corporation.
One of the slaves – human – is about to recover his memory. So will his companions.
Time could be his weapon of choice to use to escape from the slavers.
Meanwhile, Jenny Layton, Jack’s partner, is waging a defensive war against trespassers on Jack’s Planet. Jenny’s also assisting smaller systems and planets defend themselves against a corporate monolith that seemingly has more money than sense.
Corporate mercenaries continue to arrive.
In the meantime, Robert Van de Huis meets more opposition than perhaps he can handle.
Jenny prepares her presentation to the GalFed’s top legal assembly, a task which emphasizes Jack’s absence. All Jenny wants is his presence, or simply knowledge he is alive.
Jack finds timing is everything as he plans his escape from the slavers’ planet. Almost needless to say, he also is planning revenge on the slavers. His tasks successful, Jack turns his attention to rejoining Jenny.
Scars, deaths, and destruction follow both Jenny and Jack.
There’s a happy ending, though.
It’s easy to ignore dangerous issues while you’re studying at the Royal Space Navy’s academy, until a sniper attempts to assassinate you.
The scar across the side of Jack’s head is the visible price. The risk to his friends at the academy is the hidden price. His challenge is how to balance the risks.
The final stage of his training is a shakedown cruise on an old minesweeper, barely able to achieve FTL entry and exit.
Midway through their cruise, the minesweeper collides with an ancient alien wreck, ripping the sides off the starship. Jack’s team of bots help seal the combined wreck to prevent air loss. Ghost, a nanolife form from the alien wreck, provides assistance.
Jack and his girlfriend, Sofia, are the only survivors, and air, food, and supplies are critical.
The countdown of days to survive is ticking.
No wonder the Royal Family are angry.
And there’s still a price on Jack’s head.
An epic space opera story from an established and best selling Amazon writer.
Note: Like a number of SF writers, I invent words to represent aspects of the future - e.g., ecar = electrical car. Likewise spokesbot - well, spokesperson wouldn't suit for a bot, would it? I also purposefully mis-spell words to indicate a dialect or uneducated speech pattern - orright? Enjoy!
Jack suffered from an attack by the Blue Caps. He sued the RSN and won. He also sued the Royal Family and won. Now he’s acquired his own warship and his first mission is to rescue the princess.
What? Yes, Sofia is missing. The Queen has taken an intense dislike to her daughter’s ambitions and Sofia has disappeared. Jack sets out to rescue her with the assistance of Black Company marines.
The task is not as easy as it seems.
Join Jack and his bot and AI friends as they search for the missing princess. First, they must survive sabotage and alien threats. In the meantime, has Sofia, battered and bruised, rescued herself?
Another epic space opera story from an established and best-selling Amazon writer.
It’s difficult to retain your focus – and indeed, your life – when Ghost is trying to strangle and freeze you at the same time. He’s tried it before and failed. Will he succeed this time?
Who is attempting to attack Fearless? Count them.
The native species on Jack’s Planet are protecting Jack and in turn, Jack has undertaken to stop the illegal mining that is polluting the atmosphere and the planet - his planet.
He stopped it, that’s for sure. A major—and angry—GalFed corporation is complaining about the destruction of their multi-billion credit mining operation. They'll complain more when they discover Jack is confiscating the refined ore they've so industriously accumulated.
GalFed Space Navy starships are more than interested. Fortunately, the Black Company’s destroyers provide support for Jack.
An alien starship has been searching for Jack and it too, arrives.
A Blue Cap admiral tries to demote General Van de Huis in an effort to weaken Jack’s protection of the planet.
Space is getting crowded.
Jack’s making enemies faster than he’s making friends. Well, almost.
Jack Foster Senior is surprised when an old acquaintance arrives on another starship. She’s responsible for classifying the intelligent species as non-intelligent, opening the planet up to predators. Sparks fly.
Jack and his retinue from his planet are summoned to Bester II to present his case for ownership of Jack’s Planet. It’s the Blue Caps against Jack Foster.
The story might be complex, but the excitement continues.
Another epic space opera story from an established and best-selling Amazon author.
Jack has undertaken to return rescued Tirarge, a hitherto unknown species, to their home planet. The first problem? The Tirarge cannot speak - they're telepathic. The second problem? They don't know where their home system is located. The third problem? Another starship is following Fearless, likely seeking revenge.
Oh wait, there's another problem. Two other species also inhabit this unknown planet, and they can't speak, either.
Surprisingly, that's not the end of Jack's problems.
Jack, while sympathetic to the issues facing the planet and its people, has no standing apart from Fearless and his three bots and the Eagles and the SAC scouts and a squad of Black Company marines and a warrior squad of Tirarge and an AI or two...
The rulers of the planet, ignoring civilized conventions, have a simple yet elegant solution. They re-name their world and nominate Jack as its new owner. They engrave the title to the planet on a massive diamond, a jewel worth more than Jack can ever dream of. The new name of this world?
Jack Foster's Planet
There are enemies on their way, possibly a GalFed destroyer or two, and a planet to protect. Join Jack and his team - ever increasing - in their venture to help their new friends against slave traders, and Jack's Planet against illegal mining.
This is the third epic space opera story in the Jack Foster series from an established and best-selling Amazon writer.
What can one man do to recover his home?
A small planet, its wealth hidden – or so they thought; peaceful, although its inhabitants are prepared to fight for what is theirs—they call it Homeworld.
A traitor helps a rival house in its attempt to capture the planet. The ruling family fights back and most are killed or captured. Steg de Coeur, directed by The Glass Complex, an ancient and self-aware computer complex, flees the planet. He gradually learns of his ability to communicate with computers, friendly, hostile, or alien.
But he must ignore the siren songs of the stars.
He is pursued by false warrants and traitorous Imperial forces.
Their objective—his death.
His objective—revenge.
The Glass Complex is a series of action-packed adventures in space. If you like interspecies intrigue, space opera, military sci-fi, and a touch of fantasy, then you'll love this intergalactic space opera.
Read Broken Glass, the first book in this series.
Fracture Lines is the second book in The Glass Complex trilogy.
Steg de Coeur, severely wounded, is transported back in time to an Imperial hospital starship. He recovers physically, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Yi and her nurses. However, he has lost his memory and is unable to account for his presence on board the starship. ImpSec charge him with spying and sentence him to death. Steg is off-loaded in chains and transported to a prison run by the House of Aluta where he will be scheduled for execution.
His sword, Ebony, has its own adventure.
Steg escapes the prison when a mercenary commander recruits prisoners who have been sentenced to death. He establishes himself as a potential mercenary officer while gradually recovering his memory. He discovers the mercenaries, lured into a trap by their alien strategist, are about to engage with Xesset starships. He has to contend with betrayal, a Charion priestess, and divided loyalties of the mercenaries. Fain help with his memory recovery and his computer-controlling ability returns.
Steg takes over leadership of the mercenary force and with his own Ebony Company is tasked with the capture of a freighter loaded with munitions. He must defeat its Xesset escort and also overcome their dreadnought sent to destroy the mercenaries and capture their client’s planet.
Steg is needed by the Glass Complex.
Fracture Lines is an excellent precursor to the third book in the trilogy, Diamond Cut.
Diamond Cut is due for release at end of March, 2017
Diamond Cut is the third book in The Glass Complex trilogy.
Steg de Coeur, his friends, and the mercenary Ebony Company are collected by a superdreadnought sent by the Glass Complex. Xesset are threatening a major attack on the Western Star Empire, the Alliance, and a number of free, unaligned systems, including Djii. Homeworld and Djii have formed a naval task force to defend their planets from this threatened alien attack, and the Glass Complex has created high-level AIs to manage the flagship of the new fleet.
Steg rescues his friend Denke from an ImpSec takeover and captures his old enemy, Marius of the House of Aluta. Denke joins Steg to make overtures to the Emperor where they are attacked by ImpSec. They succeed in escaping and make their way to the headquarters of the Alliance government where they also persuade the military to support their task force.
Battles with Xesset starships threaten their AIs. Steg has the fleet he needs to counter-attack the Xesset. This battle and subsequent events - including another duel - bring the trilogy to a close.
