About John West
We’ve all had those nights where drunken sex with a witch in a blood pentagram under a full moon on the roof of your favourite Johannesburg nightclub summons a hard-drinking demon who changes the fate of the human race forever.

Blog postAssets – liabilities = net wealth
This is your personal balance sheet. We’ll explore it a bit more in later chapters.
List and total all your assets – your bank accounts, your house (market value), your car, your jewellery – and deduct all your debt – overdraft, mortgage, balance owing on your car, credit cards, loans, store accounts. The result is how much you are worth. Financially, not as a human being.

Forced to discard his crossbow, and still favouring his wounded arm, Justin stepped carefully to the centre of the room and felt around a dark mass that took up most of the space. Grunting, he walked around the object, bending down on each side.

Blog postWhile there are ways to increase your income, it’s pretty much fixed at any point in time. Don’t let that limit you in terms of building wealth. Decide how much you want to save. Set yourself a target for the end of the year. Make it a stretch, but not completely unreachable.
Then look at the resulting equation. Deduct your monthly savings amount from your net income. This tells you how much you have left to spend every month.

Blog postIncome – expenses = surplus/ (shortfall)
Simple enough, right? If you spend less than you earn, you will have cash left over. If you spend more than you earn, you will have a shortfall.
You may have noticed that I did NOT say, “if you earn more than you spend.” Spending less and earning more are NOT the same thing. This is an important distinction, critical to your new attitude.

Blog postMost financial questions don’t have quick and easy answers. “Where should I invest for the best returns?” “What if I want to double my money?” “Will I have enough to retire?” The answers to these questions require an understanding of the time you have left to save or invest, your investment goal, your attitude towards risk, the current state of the world economy, your monthly expenses, and various other factors that are beyond the scope of this simple book.

Titles By John West
Now, dear reader, you seem to have stumbled upon it.
And you have opened it.
You must reap what you have sown.
Come, step into the pages. See firsthand what hell is capable of.
Of course, just know, you won’t last long enough to scream.
Too many disturbing entities lurk in our plane of existence. Some haunt you physically, whereas some manifest only in your mind. What kind of horror bothers you the most? Check out The Great Void Books' Beyond, an anthology packed with some of the most delicious horrors from awesome writers all over the world. Within these 43 stories, you'll meet ghosts, witches, supernatural creatures, Cthulu-like ancient monsters, and some are so abstract, unknown, and cosmic that we dare not define.
The best part: these stories are flash fiction. Your schedule is too tight, no problem! You don't have to read an entire novel to get your dose of horror!
We all have a fascination for things that scare us—the thrill, the heart-stopping jump scares, the terrifying suspense. From the youngest age, we’re fascinated by the fiendish and furry, the creepiest critters, the naughty and the nasty. Horror is all around us, from the clowns who hide under our bed, to the things we might drag up from the brook at the bottom of the garden, and the zombies who crawl our streets.
As author, Megan Feehley, so beautifully says; there is beauty just before the terror…a silken breath taken before the spill of righteousness…the warmth of a licking flame preceding the scald.
So, close the drapes, check the locks, turn on all the lights and get comfortable. But don’t close your eyes…
Never close your eyes...
Right?
No?
Just me, then?

"There's dark, and there's twisted. Then there's Burning Roses... Sex magick rituals in nightclubs. Ancient demons in the mosh pit. Dozens of easter eggs, hilarious references to song lyrics and dead musicians, that had me snorting coffee out my nose. If this is how people lived in the 80s, I'm surprised anyone survived. But I'm glad they did. And that they came back to tell us how."

John doesn’t give a f@©k. About anything except drinking, playing pool and headbanging to his favourite bands in Johannesburg’s metal clubs. Until a private investigator hires him to find a missing girl, and he stumbles into a twisted conspiracy of magickal forces battling to decide the fate of the human race. Who is the horned demon following him from one bar to the next? Why are shadowy cult members stalking his every move? Can he find the girl before they do? Has he fallen under her spell? Does she have her own twisted agenda? Can he hang onto his sanity? Even his life? Will any of this cut into his drinking time?

Science-fiction horror, written during Corona lockdown as part of the 2020 Zombie Pirate Writing Week Challenge. And yes, I was influenced by Lovecraft. Always have been. Always will be.
Their first book has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Set in Johannesburg in the near future, Big Day Out is a mad mercenary romp through the dystopian nightmare that Covid-19 might have become. Might still become, if we don't keep our self-appointed leaders on a very short leash.
Good old-fashioned don't-give-a-toss action. You don't like it, don't buy it.
"Complete kak. Not a single witch or demon in the whole book." - John West, author of the awesome Burning Books series, featuring witches and demons and serial killers.
"Where are the puzzles? And the trains?" - Richard Edwards, author of the even more awesome Puzzle Train series, full of puzzles and trains, islands and castles.
"I didn't like the ending." - Connor, main character in Big Day Out.

And 20 snippets of Flash.
At weekly meetings, aspiring writers are often expected to write something at the drop of a hat. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes the exercise spawns a semi-decent idea, that can be tweaked and prodded into pretending it's a real story.
These aren't those.
These are the ones left bleeding on the floor of the operating theatre. They are not full stories. Just bits of scenes. Paragraphs. Flash fiction. Snippets.
Most writers leave these tucked away in private notebooks. That's probably where they belong. But on the off-chance anyone wants to peek inside the mind of an aspiring writer to see how ideas develop - and often die - here's your chance to read 20 ad hoc short shorts that might at least raise a smile.
Some torn from headlines in sunny South Africa where, for many, these are part of everyday life.

Shop for shrunken heads in a village that time forgot.
Witness an ancient ritual passed down from the Aztecs through Jack the Ripper to modern-day London.
Savour the sweet taste of revenge in a French restaurant.
Sit in on the Grim Reaper’s disciplinary hearing.
And experience life on the streets in 1980s Hillbrow as two teenagers struggle to survive a violent rollercoaster ride through Johannesburg’s underground club scene.

Relax and enjoy an assortment of characters nearly as twisted as the endings of these 13 tales of psychological suspense.
Now expanded and incorporated into "TALES FROM THE CRYING ROOM," with additional stories.
Unable to remove this old version.

"Funny as Hell."
Everybody wants to scrape together enough money to escape the rat race and live their dreams. But very few people are willing to put in the effort and make the sacrifices required for this to happen.
Building wealth is not about buying expensive toys.
Nor is building wealth the same as making money. That's like saying that having children is the same as going on a date.
And to extend that analogy, as far as salaries are concerned, it's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it.
Learn how you can save money every month, no matter who you are, or how much you earn.
Learn how to avoid the mistakes that lead to financial ruin.
Discover how the rich and famous throw their money away.
And learn why it's better to build wealth slowly than to just have lots of money.
This is no get-rich-quick scheme. It won't be easy. That's why it's called Hard Money.
Work while they sleep. Learn while they party. Save while they spend. Then live like they dream.
You have a very slim chance of winning the lottery. You have a better chance of building wealth slowly. If you have the right attitude.
If you want it bad enough.
