Anya Mitchell seems to have it all: a thriving business, a large diamond on her left hand and a solid relationship with the Lord. But her life is not as perfect as it seems. Her hunky fianc‚, Braxton, turns out to be self-absorbed and faintly conniving. He files for custody of his son from a previous marriage without telling Anya, and then tries to persuade her to sell her business and be a stay-at-home mom once they wed. Adding to Anya's nagging doubts about Braxton is David, a charming (and single) financial whiz whom Anya has just hired. When Anya is attacked by a rapist who's been stalking her for months, she realizes she needs to rethink her life. Should she marry Braxton or pay attention to the inner voice that has been telling her for weeks that their relationship is unsalvageable? The plot is predictable; most readers will figure out the identity of the stalker pages before Anya is raped, just as most will predict that she'll dump Braxton for David. And the subplot a visit from Anya's recently divorced cousin Sasha doesn't add much. Anya spends most of the book trying to bring Sasha to faith, but Sasha's sudden conversion at the story's end manages to seem simultaneously inexplicable and predictable. Still, as the response to books like Sharon Ewell Foster's Passing by Samaria shows, there is a clear need for African-American Christian fiction; despite its flaws, it is likely many readers will savor this novel of romance, intrigue and faith.

The power of forgiveness!

I enjoyed this novel but I felt towards the middle it dragged on a little to long. I did like the suspense in trying to figure out who attacked and raped Anya, but it was not a big shock when the person's identity was revealed. Overall the power of forgiveness shown through in this novel. I really enjoy Victoria's novels but this one was okay. I never liked Anya with Braxton either, he was too controlling and at one time I thought he was the person who attacked her. I loved David's character and thought he was a much better fit. I still had lingering questions at the end and Alaister's story was left incomplete especially with Sean showing up as his attorney, go figure!!!!! Overall a good novel.

This book was nothing, but wonderful. Even though Anya, has so much going on, she never lost her faith. She got through with God's help. One time she didn't even know how to be an example for her cousin Shasha, but her actions and her fath showed it all. It showed that God is real, and He's with us all of time. This book shows readers that Christians go through the every day problems and life just as everyone else does. Just because we are Christian, doesn't mean that our lives are all peachy and great, there are still trails and tribuations, but there are also warnings and signs. I rate this book a 5 Star. This the second book that I've read from Victoria Christopher Murray and I surely will read more from this author, her work is nothing, but amazing.

I don't think this is a really good book though it got a real moral question to ask yourself - if you were the main character, what would you do? However, other than that, there was not much to think about. Obviously, there would be a lot of answers to different people.

I felt the storyline is VERY slow. For 3/4 of the book, it was only telling how the bride-to-be not ready to get marry. The worries she was facing were no big deal and I did not even understand what was holding her. There didn't seem anything that was bothering her life. All the characters were not developed. The groom-to-be had nothing to say other than "I love you always".

The only good thing about the book was to bring out how a christain's daily life or belief can affect the people around her. It was never the words or how good you could interpret the bible, but the action and all the little things you did everyday. People were watching you and they learn God from all these little things. As a christian, I think we really need to be 24/7 living in God's way 'cuz people are watching us....

I recently re-read Joy and decided to take the time to write a review.
This was an outstanding book. Great plot, great story, fine, strong characters and an ending I didn't guess. How refreshing.
I enjoy reading Christian fiction that isn't preachy and this was certainly a great find. Anya's challenges were real and the way she dealt with things was just like any of us would. For example, finding a rich, handsome husband, knowing he isn't the one in your heart, but delaying giving him the ring back. I think we'd all twist that ring around on our finger before we returned it. Pushing out the voices in our head that tell us right from wrong (otherwise known as the Holy Spirit), we all do this as well.
The supsense as to who the stalker was and whether or not she was going to end up with David was so overwhelming I could hardly wait to finish the book. Then when I did I was disappointed there wasn't more to read!
Thanks Ms. Murray for a great book!

I loved this book, there was a lot of spiritual growth & brave decisions that had to be made. I absolutely loved the ending, I wasn't completely sure at once point which direction it was going to take, but I realized I guessed it right. Love has to be endure lot, always follow you instincts, it never fails you. Ayna was a brave woman and God really blessed her for listening to what he wanted her to do. I highly recommend, excellent reading.

I am sorry it sat there as long as it did. Mrs. Murray's characters were so realistic. I wish I could have given it more stars. I must say again this book was DEFINITELY A JOY TO READ.
