Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 3-This recording gives the full flavor of Barbara Park's delightful character, Junie B. The recording includes Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus (Random, 1992), Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth (Random, 1993), Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business (Random, 1993), and Junie B. Jones and Some Sneaky Peeky Spying (Random, 1994).These stories take us inside the kindergartner's mind as we get to know the fears, frustrations and reasoning of an "almost 6" year old. Lana Quintal's narration is outstanding, and her voice is perfect as the sassy Junie B. Listeners are always aware which character is speaking by the seemingly effortless changes in modulation that Quintal uses. The Junie B. Jones series is wildly popular with the first through third grade set. This recorded book will delight students, and could be used to good advantage as a read-along for new or struggling readers. The quality of this recording is outstanding, and Quintal's narration provides sufficient interest to hold listeners attention to the end. An important addition to elementary school and public libraries serving the needs of emerging readers.

I bought these because I remember enjoying them as a kid but my perspective has changed now that I’m reading them to my 6 year old. Junie B Jones is annoying, whiney, and mean! She calls kids names and uses words I don’t want my 6 year old using like stupid, shut up, and dumb. To top it all of there’s an entire page in the third book that talks about how Mickey Mouse isn’t real, he’s just a guy in a suit! What?!?! These books say they are for 6-9 year olds, ages that can and do still believe! Childhood innocence and the magic of things like Disney only lasts a short period of time. I don’t need sub-par books ruining the magic for my kid too soon.

I ordered these to read with my 6 yr old daughter. I thought I remembered Junie B. Jones being cute and funny. I was wrong. I clearly forgot that she is a brat with no discipline. I don't like my kids to say things like: stupid, dumb, etc and these are Junie B's favorite words. She yells at adults, sasses her teacher and parents, and says mean things to friends. Her maturity level is equal to what my kids were at around 2 1/2. We are reading the books and using them as a learning tool of how NOT to behave and my kids give examples of what they could/should do instead. I would not allow my children to play with Junie B. if she were real!

I absolutely dread reading this book to my daughter, but they were reading the series in kindergarten and she asked me to buy the books. I had never heard of them before, and normally I preview books, but if figured if it was ok for school then they’d be fine. I bought them and I wish I hadn’t. The language is terrible, she has such a negative view of the world. She sounds like a brat and makes really poor choices but makes it seem funny. In my house we don’t use the words stupid or dumb. Which she uses A LOT. I also think the style it’s written is very childish. Very watered down grammar. It’s written in the way a 4 year old might speak. I’m doing my best to making these books disappear from my house...I’ve never felt so strongly about something as to write a review. But parents should be aware.

Warning: reviews are over 20 percent 1-star for obvious reasons: teaches disrespect to adults and naughty behaviors too. with

This book will destroy your child’s character. If you got suckered into buying it because of the 4.5 stars like u did, call Amazon for a refund and throw away the books immediately. When iver 20 percent of the readers give this series 1 star, mathematically how is it possible for this book to get 4.5 stars. Grammar and content are horrible.

I didn't think to read the reviews as I'd heard others speak positively about these books. Big mistake. The writing is horrible (yes, I understand that they are meant to be from the voice of a kindergartner), and the language and behavior of Junie is just plain mean. This is what teachers are using in classrooms? Ridiculous. Sure, the kids might find them funny, but there are so many other books out there more deserving of your time and money. I threw these in the trash. Literally.

We were not happy with this series. There is a lot of name calling by the characters, and very little correction. The overall language is not what I prefer for our child.

I'm appalled at the characters' behaviors and attitudes in these books!
My 6-year-old daughter (1st grade) has been starting to read chapter books. She wanted me to buy some for her and recognized the Junie B. Jones books from her school's library. She started reading the first one and we had to quickly stop because of the terrible language, disrespect and behavior of the children in these books. Snotty language, treating other children terribly, mouthing off to adults, teasing, ramming their heads into the stomachs of other children like a bull. It's challenging enough to teach children proper behavior, respect, kindness and consideration... these books are examples of everything I don't want my child to be.

I first came across these books in the USA, reading to them with my grandchildren there. They love them, and often, I would be laughing outload at the stories. I cannot recomend them high enough. Ignore the reviews that do not like them, they are great!
