Faith Hunter, urban fantasy writer, was born in Louisiana and raised all over the south. Hunter fell in love with reading in fifth grade, and best loved SciFi, fantasy, and gothic mystery. She decided to become a writer in high school, when a teacher told her she had talent. Now, she writes full-time, tries to keep house, and is a workaholic with a passion for travel, jewelry making, white-water kayaking, and writing. She and her husband love to RV, traveling to whitewater rivers all over the Southeast.

The dark urban fantasy Skinwalker series, featuring Jane Yellowrock, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling series with multiple books and compilations. Jane Yellowrock is a Cherokee skinwalker who tracks, hunts, and kills rogue-vampires for a living -- that is, until she takes a gig working for Leo Pellissier, the Master of the City of New Orleans. The series is set in an alternate reality, modern-day world, one inhabited by humans, vamps, and other things that go bump in the night.

Her Rogue Mage novels, a dark, urban fantasy series, feature Thorn St. Croix, a stone mage in a post-apocalyptic, alternate reality, urban fantasy world. These novels are the basis for the Rogue Mage World Book and Role Playing Game, which contains lots of fiction for the readers!

I love the Junkyard Cats! I realize they are short stories but Shining is such a strong and interesting character, she has plans for the future but takes care of new business ruthlessly. Also the cats themselves are extraordinary, cats are wonderful creatures. Excellent reading. Now the long wait for the next adventure.

Entertaining second book, which delivers more of the same

This novella continues a dystopian story, set in America, where countries have bombed the heck out of each other, but were themselves conquered by aliens, who seem to have retreated from earth and left humans to it, along with lots of their techno stuff. The novellas remind me of Ilona Andrews books - there's a formula that's always followed. In this case, it's a kick-ass chick with 'special' powers courtesy of alien bio-nanobots; long, involved descriptions of fantastic weapons; shooting baddies and freeing their hapless victims accompanied by lots of blood and gore. The nanobots turn people she touches, skin to skin, into her thralls (they literally can't resist her orders), which she doesn't like, because it's removing their free will. This becomes tricky when she forms a love-interest with a man who becomes her thrall. But it turns out that the thralldom is not quite absolute - her victims can muster a bit of free will. Which if you think about it, has to be, because a tough guy can't really be her lover if he's enthralled to her - sort of un-mans him. There's a long-term mission to free a prisoner who is being tortured and each novella seems to be one step along the way to achieving this long-term plan. I enjoyed the story because the author is good at plots and characterisation, even if it's all a bit predictable.

I can never figure out if battle cats are the coolest, or motorcycle gangs running the world is. Been a fan of sci-fi forever, and Faith Hunter for several years, and really do love this weird mashup. Characters are all bad ass and you just root for them the whole time. Hope there is a third book one of these days to see how the matchup of the "queens" is resolved. As always thanks to the author for such a fun read.

This story was so superb that I wish it was a full-length novel. I've never read anything by Faith Hunter that wasn't a strong, tightly-written story, and this second book in the Junkyard Cats trilogy is no exception. It was a perfect continuation to the first book. I'm eagerly anticipating the third one.

If you're looking for a paranormal romance, this won't really fit the bill. This is definitely more of an urban fantasy story.

Some new characters, Shining's thralls show much independence, and some good fast battles too. The technology comes fast, you need to be sharp to keep up; I'm not a fan of having to work to read a story, so that's why only 4 stars. But you may really like that...

I love the way she manages to describe and intertwine all the differing parties and their personalities, especially those of the cats. She has, yet again, written a thoroughly entertaining story with characters that grab your attention and hold it throughout the book. Never boring and quite fun to read.

This world is as cool as it is scary. In a Mad-Max-kind-of-way. And it again makes for a great background for Shining’s quests or tasks or whatever one wants to call her self-appointed jobs to rescue people left and right and prepare for a tremendous showdown. Which we don’t see in this installment, because the books are rather short and this time, the plot revolves around Shining, Cupcake and some of the cats being on a dangerous road-trip to prepare for the coming war against Shining’s nemesis Clarisse Warhammer. I liked seeing Jagger again and also some new team members, so to speak. And being on the road, Shining also gets into hero-mode, which i liked a lot. Whenever she encounters abused people, she won’t look away, but does something about it. And her gang is always with her (although her „thralls“ get more and more independent of her, which is good news for her… even if some actions could have been less…. jarring…). I liked the road-trip, the crew, the new places in the after-alien-invasion and after-war US and really, I could practically feel the heat, smell the stink and see the devastation. Although the book isn’t pessimistic or bleak or anything, strangely enough, there is a positive undertone.
Oh and there is less tech and weapons‘ speak, which makes the experience a lot smoother this time around. To sum it up: inventive and entertaining sci-fi/dystopian adventure with a cool heroine and awesome world building!

I love faith Hunters work I first discovered her with her book skinwalker. In her books she weaves amazing characters and worlds together that are fun to read. So Shining Smith is another character that is strong and capable and hangings out with cats . This newest book is great and read it all at once can not wait to see what is next for Shining and her friends. I was on edge the entire time i was reading! Spy is my favourite cat character. This is some of the best science fiction I have read, I highly recommend this series and everything else Faith writes.
