Jamie McFarlane is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a Master of Science in Mathematics. An avid reader, tinkerer, woodworker and metal sculptor, Jamie is just as likely to be seen smelting aluminum cans in his garage as he is tacking random, discarded iron objects into a small army of beasties that adorn his home’s landscaping.

Jamie’s writing career began as something of a dare which later turned into a tribute. In his late teens, Jamie was well known as the family story-teller, spinning fanciful yarns about ordinary events, usually with the objective of escaping well-deserved trouble. One day, his mother, often the target of his mischievous tales, challenged him to commit his words to writing. Jamie promised he would but time passed, as did his beloved mother. In 2014, Jamie made good on his promise and published his first book.

Jamie is the author of a growing library of novels and novellas including the space opera series - Privateer Tales, and the urban fantasy series - Witchy World. Jamie lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

This felt like an end to the series, but McFarlane inserted his "but that's another story" at the end so I don't know what the result will be. The pacing in this tale was a bit quicker than in earlier works, I think that is partly due to the prior establishment of all the key actors.

I enjoyed the book right up until the last two pages, I won't spoil anything but it felt like a non-sequitur and out of character both. But that's another story...

I generally like McFarlane's writing style - it's jovial, light hearted and easy reading off not a bit predictable. However, after reeling off about 20 books in a row in his other sci-fi space bound series, he's gotten lazy with this one. In fact, he's simply writing the same series under a different cover. He's now grafting the same terms, tech, plot and storylines from his longer running pirate series to this one. They've become nearly indistinguishable making this effort unreadable.

Making it even more difficult is his continued lack of study of military terms and hierarchy and his absolute insistence on using them. A lack of knowledge is forgivable but a lack of study when the information is so readily available is more difficult to overlook.

I cannot recommend this book or this series beyond the initial two books.

I’m a 55 year old male who has loved SciFi since my dad delayed my birth because of the first episode of Star Trek. Jamie has a wonderful way of bringing every character to 4K living color and his interpretation of the vast amount of living beings out in the universe is amazing. I look forward to his next book, Junkyard Raiders, and I am downloading his other works shortly. His is the kind of reading that allows hard working individuals like myself to escape this world into the heavens above and explore great new worlds!

The main character, AJ, is everything most guys would like to be. Tough, smart, reckless with a heart of gold. The rest of his crew (especially DOC) grow on you to the point you feel they are your friends as well. The ships, planets and the aliens are all so vividly described you actually get a perfect mental image without a ton of useless words. And at the end of every book he leaves you with just the right amount of flavor to make you need another bite.

AJ just wants to live in peace at his new junkyard orbiting another planet. That’s not much to ask, is it? Apparently it is. Hitmen, well, some are women, want to collect the bounty on his head. That doesn’t make AJ happy, so he and his friends have to fix it. Who put out the contract? Read the book. Now, Mr. McFarlane, there are several more known solar systems full of “challenges” for the intrepid raccoons. I want to hear about them.

This last book in the series was mostly disappointing. There was some frantic, fast activity in the last 25%, one last “dramatic“ battle which felt over-written and then a short epilogue to tie up loose ends. A decidedly ignominious end to the series.

This is number four in the Junkyard series. It is familiar in style and story to the others and every bit as implausible. And enjoyable. Sometimes we just read to relax for a while and this is the perfect book for that. Good people to spend some time with as a reader. The characters are strong in their core beliefs and sort of remind us of real people in the veteran community that we know.
If you want to take a break from reading the classics of Russian literature and give your emotions and brain a rest, you can't do better than this one.

I haven't done book reports since High School which was 52 years ago. This is a GOOD read. Well paced. Love the character development of even minor parts.

i DO wish the who's who had been in the prologue, with just a taste of what each character had done. I know. I know. That's a lot of material. I'll probably just re-read the whole freaking series now. Should be an interesting 6 weeks or so.

I liked how it ended and look forward to the next. I dont really care if it hurts continuity or believability, I like happy endings and everyone going home at the end of shift.

This was so good. So full of "fun". Yes, they get into lots of trouble (ground and space battles). They get a junkyard; they get the band back together; and they enlist a couple of alien allies to fight off whoever is trying to kill them. You just have to read this book to find out. Now I'm going back to see if there's another chapter (book) in this series. I sure hope so, or I'll be starting another series by Jamie. I like his writing style, character development and plots that have enough "fun", but no aliens who want to eat your face. Enjoy!
