Update: So they sent me a replacement one with no issue due to seeing my original post below. It has been working and have no issues. I don't know why it didn't work before, but am definitely happy to work with someone who will fix the issue and it seems to work great. Definitely recommend!

"It said that it was waterproof, which sounds great. I went swimming with it and it doesn't work anymore. JK. But seriously, I used it once cooking and got pan splash on it and it literally broke. Constantly was saying my room temperature was 158F. So, not only is it not waterproof, it is also a liar.
It is in the trash where it deserves to be."

Updated 2021-04-05: was sent a replacement with minimal hassle. Will be looking at ways to seal it as I’m now skeptical about the water resistance.Original 2021-03-14 l: Not water resistant let alone waterproof. Display damaged by a few minutes in a light rain. Otherwise there was plenty to like, but this was the principal reason I selected this model. And this happened one day after return window :(
