Chris (Reynolds) was an overweight nerd and in love with his best friend Jamie (Smart), but she only thought of him like a brother. Ten years later, Chris is now a hot L.A. music exec.

Well it’s our favorite movie of all times .. without sounding completely insane (we are a bit) .. Ryan and Anna .. LA at its finest and Ryan (Chris) & Anna (Samantha) head off on jet for her new hit single “Forgiveness 🎤 doesn’t mean say’n I’m sorry 🎸” ... then Samatha burns up the microwave on the G5 emergency landing ..in Chris’ childhood home town. “Mom, bro.. I am home .. and the party begins 🚘🏒🥅🎤🎸⛄️❄️🔥🎅🏼🤶🏼♥️💕 .. HILARIOUS .. ALL THOSE CRINGE WORTHY MOMENTS FROM HIGH SCHOOL COME BACK AND THE FAMILY HUMOR IS OVER THE TOP SLOPPY SILLY 😂 .. it’s fun, embarrassing, but he still does the right thing .. For the beautiful girl, the one that got away after High School Graduation. life is Divine Chaos .. we just have to jump in .. enjoy the journey .. laughing is the best medicine. Thank you!!

One of my favorite comedies
Verified purchase
First let me say everyone has a different sense of humor and take in mind this was filmed in 2005 on a very low budget. If you like Ryan Reynolds comedies from that time then youll love this. I still laugh and have been watching this for atleast 10 years. I have 5 children and my older 3 think it's hilarious and they are 19 and 20. The boys especially love the brother scenes and how Ryan acts pretentious at times and of course Ana Farris. My daughter likes all of it...it's a completely exaggerated movie that takes place during Christmas time. Give it a try...I still find things I've either missed or forgot when I watch it each time that are subtly funny. Of course they love Space balls too and many other older movies of that era so they get the simplicity and references.

Sisterhood of the Traveling DVD

My sister and I started a tradition about 6 years ago with this movie. Every year for Christmas we watch it together and drink (a lot) while laughing hysterically and shouting out our favorite lines. We are taking a family trip this year and we lost the last copy we had, didn’t want to chance the cabin we are staying in to not have rental movies. Can’t wait to continue our tradition!! 💖 #MariahCareyThisIsAPontiacGrandPrix

If you have a brother you will love this movie

This is my favorite comedy. To anyone who hasn’t seen it before, there are a few dirty references and nasty jokes, but nothing *happens*. If it weren’t for those jokes I’d say it would be a good family comedy. But to be safe, screen it first and decide if your kids are mature enough for those references (if you have kids). It’s a hilarious movie and Anna Farris is at her top game comedically.

This movie is a love story that is hilarious to watch unfold. Great acting by everyone, especially Anna Faris who really steals every scene she is on. A man returns to his old town after some serious changes in his life and tries to reconnect with her with lots of laughs and attempts at romantic moves. Recommended for family night or girls get together, plus RR is incredibly handsome!!

Why did you hide this whack GREAT Christmas movie from me?
Verified purchase
Our new go-to Holiday movie! Who hid this from me for like 8 years? I was already a Ryan Reynolds fan, but somehow missed this one.

17 kinds of fun with unstoppable Ryan Reynolds. We discovered it over New Year's. Somehow the mostly believable, always wild physical comedy never ends. Don't worry: all that laff-a-minute slapstick plus truly whacked out family holiday insanity will break the ice whenever and with who(m)ever you watch this . Three side plots and superb work in uber pranks and brotherly wrestle-a-rama by Live-At-Home Little Brother Chris Klein (Oz in AMERICAN PIE), keep it moving.

For all of us who always wanted to right some really uncomfortable high school wrongs, bonk the right person in your hometown for once, and free the Nerd Within, this laugh-a-thon's for you. And you know you wanted to see all that NJ Christmas yard display stuff get toasted, right?

My Favorite Christmas Movie

This movie made me fall in love with Ryan Reynolds! His comedic timing is impeccable, and I can say the same for Anna Faris. They are hysterical together and have wonderful comic chemistry. I especially love when the crazed Samantha shows up at Jamie's house and annihilates her family's Christmas decorations. I graduated high school in the same year as his character, so I also loved the flashback to 1995 and the pop-culture references. If you're a fan of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, I think this movie will work its way into your heart.

The Nightmare For All Men
Verified purchase
Let me start off by saying that I truly do enjoy this movie. While it is no cinematic masterpiece, it is exactly what you would expect from Ryan Reynolds. Amy Smart is a fairly versatile actress and is amusing for most of this movie. This movie describes the relationships of potentially millions of friends and you will catch yourself comparing the situations to situations in your own life.

Ryan Reynolds is a convincing fat kid when in high school and is going through what probably every kid that is like him has in their life. They want to take that one shot at the "hot" friend they have with disastrous consequences. The difference in this movie in real life, however, is that Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) decides to take his embarrassment as a cue to leave town and make himself "better" by taking out his frustrations of being the fat kid on any woman that happens to walk into his life.

Amy Smart plays a typical high school female who does her best to ignore that her best friend is absolutely in love with her all the while dating popular jocks. She grows up and is stuck in the same old town and does not amount to what she thought she might from years past.

The dynamic between the two is certainly hilarious at times, especially when Chris reverts back to his old self when seeing Jamie Polamino (Amy Smart). Dusty Dinkleman (Chris Klein) adds an interesting wrinkle to their adult story but is ultimately phased out.

Overall, a solid movie if you like this type of comedy and it follows in the same vein as normal Ryan Reynolds movies (with exception to Amityville Horror). While I would not consider it a "dumb" comedy as it seems to reflect true life more than what we would care to admit, it does have situations in it that would hopefully never truly happen. Some of the situations in the movie are truly disastrous and unfortunate but it seems like everything works out in the end. If you are in the mood for a laugh then this would be a good movie to watch. However, do not ever watch this movie with a friend you are trying to woo. It probably will not go over well.
