Hudson Riggs has returned to his family’s ranch after years spent traveling the world. The former Navy SEAL accepted a position as a Personal Security Specialist, a job that didn’t leave much free time. He never expected his visit to his hometown to turn into another job. For Sunny Travers, being back in Canyon Springs is bittersweet. She desperately misses her life in California but her grandmother needs her. Sunny’s world flips upside down when she’s arrested for killing the local hero. Now the citizens of Canyon Springs have turned against her and she’s forced to accept help from the man who broke her heart all those years ago.

Hudson knows Sunny hasn’t forgiven him. Hell, he hasn’t forgiven himself for how he left things but all his emotions take a back seat when someone tries to kill Sunny. Can Hudson protect Sunny long enough to apologize to her and right old wrongs or will the killer get to her first?

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book that felt like it went by in the blink of an eyeReviewed in the United States on October 5, 2020Now, I'm a sucker for a second chance, and the fact that this theme is at the heart of this book made me instantly warm to it. But add to that, the Brotherhood Protectors World and a tie-in to the author's Callahan Security series, and there was no way I could resist. The chemistry between Sunny and Hudson is compelling to watch. I was so glad to see them air out their past grievances and hurts. This is a book that felt like it went by in the blink of an eye. It pulled me into the mystery, the story, and the whole thing went by in blur of action, suspense, and misdirection. At no point in the story was I able to outthink the plot. All the necessary clues were there, but I was successfully distracted by everything else that was going on and never managed to put them together before the book was over. Before I even started reading this, I was already a fan of the author's work. Now I can't wait to see what she gives us next.

I had so much fun creating this novella. It's always so fascinating to me when I sit down to write, and the story comes to me like I've known it for years. Hudson Riggs, with his easy smile and guilty conscience, slid into my brain before I even knew I was going to be a part of the Brotherhood Protectors World. It was fate for sure. I hope you enjoy reading Hudson and Sunny's story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Lori Matthews loves books. As an award willing author, she loves nothing more than creating a story that starts with a bang and keeps going with plenty of action, and a side of hot romance.
She grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada, in a house filled with books and readers. Some of her fondest memories are of reading in the same room with her mother and sisters, arguing about whose turn it was to make tea. No one wanted to put their book down!
She was introduced to different genres because of her parents’ habit of leaving books all over the house. Her mother read romance and her father read thrillers.
After two degrees, a career as a librarian, a husband and two kids, she attended a workshop in Tuscany that lit that spark for writing again. She’s been pounding the keyboard ever since.
Lori writes what she calls romantic thrillers as she’s a true product of her upbringing!

Murder, mystery, intrigue, and a second chance at romance. What's not to like? Lori Matthews contribution to the Brotherhood Misfortune World was great.

Sunny and Hudson, high school sweethearts until Hudon left with only a note, leaving Sunny devastated. They both go on to careers that are very satisfying and until Sunny comes back to her hometown to care for her grandmother, all is well.

A murder that Sunny is accused of but didn't commit and Hudson coming back to town to help his mom, brings them back together. When they get too close to identifying the real murderer, things heat up. Will Hudson be able to save Sunny?

This was a great, quick read. Lots of tension and you really don't know who really was the murderer until almost the very last chapter of the book.

The whole town turned against her thinking she killed Wayne, so then it came out that the real killer did and why. I can understand her staying in the town because of her Gran but how did the towns folk treat her after the killer was found? Part of the story was the towns harassment and that while part was just left hanging. she was kicked out of the spa because everyone thought she killed Wayne, so as the new manager did she fire everyone? You cant have a major part of the story left hanging at the end of the book!

Two people with a past that didn't end well are now back to where it started. Sunny would rather be back in California but she is here to take care of her grandma.
Hudson is back to help on his mother's ranch and he works in private security.
Sunny has been framed for murder and Hudson is going to help find who is behind it.
Sunny has gone into town alone and Hudson has just found out. She should have been home by now. Will he be able to find her. Someone has caused her to be in an accident. Will she make it out ok?

A second chance read between Hudson who comes home to look after his mom’s ranch and Sunny, who moved back home to look after her grandma. Sunny is accused of murder and is ostracized in the small town by some people, but Hudson doesn’t believe she’s guilty and manipulated himself into her life, by becoming her bodyguard when some residents resort to threats against her. Sunny does her best to ignore the man who left her behind with a note and no explanation but as they realize the threat to her safety takes a turn for the worse, she moves in with him to keep her safe and the sparks come roaring back as they try to figure out who the real killer is.
A good read with some steam, some suspense and good characters. I enjoyed these two but would have liked to see more to their ending....where they end up etc in an epilogue. The strong flowed nicely, her grandma was a hoot and I didn’t see the bad guy coming until the end.
