Dark Magic is a collection of over two hundred bite-size drabbles of dark fantasy and horror.
Enter a world of curses and creatures, the hideous and the hexed, where love is cruel and victory is tainted. Where gods and demons hold sway over mortals, senses are enticed and spirits ensnared. Angels fall, dragons rise, shadows hide secrets and power comes from blood and bone and death itself.

Love candle in hand, she visualises Enzo, walking toward her, his body strong and lithe, rather than broken and bloody as she’d last seen him. Having already asked forgiveness for what she’d done, the imagined look on his face was one of love and acceptance. Harnessing that love, she wrapped both hands around the candle and placed it into a lovely wrought iron pentagram holder. Once she evoked the necessary protection for her spell, she glanced at the grimoire again, hoping her Gaelic was up to the task, hoping she was up to the task. She slid the blade of her athame across the palm of her hand, held it over her mirror, and recited the chant. A dark orb rose…then another…and another… Izzy’s gaze flew to the grimoire, landing on a single phrase. A drop of blood—she glanced at the mirror, counted the drops…eleven…twelve… She jerked her hand away as the last drop plopped on the surface…thirteen… She leapt to her feet and spun around to find Enzo, and twelve other figures – there, but not there. Transparent. Feet not quite touching the floor. And looking pissed as hell. Thirteen authors tell dark, disturbing, and creepy tales of thirteen apparitions bent on revenge from love gone wrong.
Izzy—The Love Spell by Jodi Jensen After consulting the grimoire of her 17th century Scottish ancestor, Izzy starts down a dark path to resurrect the man she loves and accidentally killed.
Issa—The Rocked Cradle by S. N. Graves After losing the woman she loved, Shiv finds that being Mom for the little monster Issa left behind is a fresh hell she’s unprepared for.
Cedric—Unhinged by J.W. Garrett When Cedric finds himself back among the living, he picks up where he left off before his life was snuffed out by witches, determined to make his beloved pay. Sarah—Forbidden Fruit by Kim Rei When the past starts to creep into the present, Trevor reaches for his family history for answers. Jezzelle—The Booth by M. Sydnor Jr. A man must relive the worst day of his life over and over until he accepts responsibility for the death of his girlfriend, Jezzelle.
Caleb—The Wild Hunt by Chris Bannor Aiden returns to the scene where he lost the man he loved, but something more than memory haunts him.
Amanda—The Madness of Guilt by Crystal L. Kirkham Convinced she is responsible for Amanda’s death, and not willing to go on without her, Kerri documents her dive into the dark arts to find a way to bring her back.
Silas—Together Forever by K.T. Tate Resurrected from the pit, Silas uses his newfound demonic abilities to track down his soulmate and bind them together forever.
Meera—Behind the Fame by D.J. Elton A need for retribution can go either way, and Meera is determined it will be to her gain and not that of the Svengali-like Alexi.
Red—Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? by Nicole Little Abruptly returned to the scene of her violent death, Red very quickly realises that fairy tales don’t always have happy endings and that revenge is a dish best served bloody.
Gillian—Eternal Vengeance by Maxine Churchman After discovering the truth about her death, Gillian seeks revenge, but she gets more than she bargains for.
Racked by riots and ruled by corporations, London has grown to house over twenty-million people. Its limits stretch across the south-west of England.
Pollution chokes the skyline, hiding the stratoscrapers of The Mile, London’s exclusive centre, from sight; though its gaudy neon signs penetrate the smog.
Corporations rule after the collapse of the mid-2000s. The NHS, under strain from underfunding and the barrage of pandemics, chemical attacks and terrorism, found itself sold off, piece by piece, to the highest bidder. The augmentation companies moved in; buying what they liked. The National Health Bank rose, supplemented by other privatised care centers.
The augmented account for 85% of the population. AdTechnika rules the roost: the world’s leading, and most elite, company.
Others like Pegasus and Amexicorp have their share of the market, while Chikara’s cheap tech exploits the poor, downtrodden and needy as they prop up the NHB. It’s cheaper that way. The poor get sick, their limbs fail. Take away their organs, replace them with something better. Stronger.
Who cares how human they are?
London is a powder-keg: change is in the air, its great-unwashed are unhappy with their lot and worried for the future—Scotland is a frozen wasteland, earthquakes devastate the globe and AdTechnika drones patrol the unpredictable skies.
Riots rack the city. The Brotherhood of the Flesh battle the Children of the Bionic God for the hearts and minds of the streets. Black markets thrive, and illegal fighting rings do sound business. Place your fingers on London’s mechanical pulse, and you’ll detect a skip in its rhythm.
Over it all, AdTechnika watches, a cybernetic spider surveying its web. They see all. They know all. In London 2113, anything can happen in twenty-four hours.
Zero Hour approaches.
