About Kasey Mackenzie
Kasey Mackenzie lives with her husband and son in St. Louis, Missouri; home of the Gateway Arch, the baseball Cardinals, and the world's greatest thin-crust pizza. Kasey was one of those students who always had her nose in a book--so no big surprise when she was voted "Teacher's Pet" in her high school yearbook. Today, she is a voracious reader of fantasy, romance, suspense, and science fiction. She adores her German shepherd puppy, wicked kitty cat, playing softball, and teaching Zumba. Passionate about the written word, she feels extremely lucky to make a living as an editor and writer. Now, if she could just figure out how to get paid for cleaning her own house, maybe that would happen more often...

Blog postWell! Wouldn’t you know that the universe decided to humble me yet again when I planned to publish Ignited by Ashes soon after my last update? I unfortunately fell and severely shattered my ankle on June 1st. Agonizing pain doesn’t even begin to describe what I went through for the week it took to get a pain medication that actually worked for me. Thank goodness for my amazing husband advocating me, because I was out of my mind with pain and incoherent. I’m not going to go into all the ugly d10 months ago Read more

Blog postFirst, I want to thank everyone for their patience as I’ve been dealing with mental health challenges over the past year. 2020 was rough for a lot of us, I know! It really affected my productivity in many areas, but especially when it came to my creativity and ability to write.
The good news is that I’ve been slowly but steadily working on Ignited by Ashes, Book 4 in Phoenix on the Rise. I am now almost 60% of the way through the first draft and hoping to finish that up in the next fe1 year ago Read more -
Blog postI wanted to post my resignation letter to RWA here for posterity and because I seriously failed at threading it correctly in Twitter. If you aren’t familiar with this situation, you can just google about the ridiculous ethics complaint against Courtney Milan or check out the Twitter hashtags #istandwithcourtneymilan and #rwashitshow. Readers may want to skip this, I just wanted to record my thoughts on this situation so people know they aren’t alone.

Blog postI am so excited to share the cover of the fourth Untamed Elements: Phoenix on the Rise quartet with you. Lou Harper, my cover artist for this series, did a phenomenal job with this cover! She captured the Spirit (double pun intended) of Laclede’s Landing in downtown St. Louis perfectly.
Ignited by Ashes marks the final book in this first Untamed Elements quartet, but it won’t be the last. The war between Cass and company and Daddy Dearest is just starting to heat up! We’ll move on to3 years ago Read more -
Blog postSo, I thought I would sit down and talk a little about my writing and publishing history for those who are interested. I’ve been writing since I can remember–always with the intention of being published–although I only got serious about learning the business side of things and perfecting the craft of writing in my mid-20s.
I’ve always loved research, so I did a ton of online research in addition to reading and writing a ton over those next few years. I was super excited that urban fan3 years ago Read more -

I’ve been dealing with a lot of sickness the past few weeks, so I completely forgot to post here that Eternal Academy 2: A Witch’s Dark Curse is now out! Between struggling with a huge flare-up of my cubital tunnel syndrome and all the sickness (starting with nasty allergies in September, then a sinus infection, and now a cold), it’s a wonder I managed to get that in by the deadline!

Blog postWithout further ado, I’m excited to reveal the cover for Eternal Academy 2: A Witch’s Dark Curse. I am so pleased with this cover! The supremely talented artist, Manuela Serra Book Cover, absolutely nailed this! Crystal and Misty look badass–presenting the strong sisterly front they share–and their kitty familiars turned out amazing!
And comparing the covers for Books 1 and 2 side-by-side…Beautiful! In my admittedly biased opinion.

Blog postI’m writing again so decided maybe I’ll try to blog again, too. No promises but I’ll try! I have been updating Facebook and Twitter much more frequently lately. As far as writing goes, I’ve sent a YA suspense/thriller proposal to my lovely agent Ginger and I have a second YA thriller proposal most of the way finished. Now, I am turning my attention to self-pubbing a few urban fantasies because I still love UF so much!

Not only has he killed me several times—too bad for him my Phoenix powers keep bringing me back—but he’s also trying to take over the world. Literally. Thank goodness I now have two siblings by my side. Our liegebond is growing just as strong as my magical ties to the love of my life, Jake. We plan to send double agents to infiltrate our father’s headquarters, thinking we can gain the edge in this bloody war.
Except it turns out we have our own mole to worry about, something that becomes frighteningly clear when deadly assassins keep getting way too close for comfort. Is the traitor one of my new liegesworn who are supposed to be magically bound to protect me above all else? Or is it someone even closer; someone whose betrayal will cut me to the bone?
Battle lines are being drawn, but it’s getting damned difficult to tell who is on which side. My powers may be increasing—but so is my emotional vulnerability. And if we don’t figure out who the traitor is, Daddy Dearest just might succeed in making his cruel vision of the future a reality. Leaving my loved ones dead, mind-controlled minions, or the traitor who brought my entire world crashing down.
Untamed Elements: Phoenix on the Rise Reading Order:
Reborn in Fire
Forged from Flame
Embraced by Embers
Ignited by Ashes (Forthcoming)
Plenty people have deadbeat parents, but how many have fathers who keep showing up to kill them? Just one more example of what a lucky woman I am. Oh wait, I'm not even human anymore--I'm a Fire-controlling Elemental called a Phoenix. And boy, do I have daddy issues!
I also have long-lost sibling issues when my sister and brother show up on my new Elemental clan's doorstep. They were rescued from Daddy Dearest's evil lab by an old enemy in a show of good faith. Turns out that enemy's now carrying his latest magical science experiments (twins!) and claims she can help us save my bondmate Jake's own twin, Colin. The one we thought was beyond saving.
Now we're in a race to find Colin's watery grave and free my siblings from our father's psychic powers. If only I master my own abilities as the world's first Elemental liegelord in centuries, we might stand a chance.
The title's gender-neutral, thank you very much, and I'm about to show Daddy Dearest he messed with the wrong daughter. Failure's not an option, because it means that everyone I love will be mind-controlled minions of my father--or dead beyond saving.
***Note from Author: This is an adult urban fantasy book featuring a smoking-hot romantic subplot suitable for readers 18+. It features elemental magic with humans who kick butt, take names, and keep flinging themselves into danger to fight for what they believe in. If you love books by Kelley Armstrong, Karen Chance, K.F. Breene, Linsey Hall, Kim Harrison, Yasmine Galenorn, Dannika Dark, and Hailey Edwards, chances are you will love this series!
As Boston’s Chief Magical Investigator, Riss Holloway has been responsible for solving any crimes committed by or against supernaturals. But now she’s taking a leave of absence from the Boston PD and heading home--to focus on her duties as a Fury: like assisting her mother with an unsettling friction brewing in the Sisterhood, a faction of Furies sworn to serve all the Deities equally. She soon realizes that something much worse than Khaleel is hunting the streets of Claybourne: a secret, flesh-eating race of Djinn that make the Ifrit look cute and cuddly. She must team up with her evil ex in order to stop the murdering, cannibalizing monster now stalking the mortal realm. Banishment has become the least of her concerns. Failure to stop the Ghul means almost certain death—and the loss of her immortal soul.
