Blog postRecently, we helped our sweet Chrissy cross the Rainbow Bridge, 17 years—almost to the day—from when she joined our family as a six-month old pup. Oh, we’ve lost a dear friend. Our constant companion, she hiked with us, went to protest rallies with us, cheered on the baseball team with us, and helped me be a writer in our backyard. She was the last remaining animal on this earth who knew my mom. Mom rushed over to meet Chrissy the very day she came. Chrissy and I1 month ago Read more

Blog postThe other night as I stood on the patio shivering, waiting for the dogs to return from their tour of the garden, I noticed something amazing.
Not the moon, just visible through clouds. Not the stillness. Not the silence. Nope. I noticed the tips of the daffodils poking up in the border. They were in just the right spot to catch the light spilling from the back door. Every year, I am amazed by this, the return of the flowers. You would think I’4 months ago Read more -
Blog postWell, the summer’s flown by, as usual, while I was busy making other plans, to borrow a phrase. And now, here it is, autumn. My favorite time of year, it has always felt like another kind of new year. There’s the fresh start of a new school year (a long ago memory, sure, but one that’s imprinted on me forever), and the fresh air of fall, marking that other, quieter half of the year.
It seems a good time to review my to-be-read list of upcoming titles, when I can anticipate si

Blog postI’m delighted to be part of the upcoming anthology from Superior Shores Press, Moonlight and Misadventure. As you would expect, every story is a tale of something mysterious happening under cover of darkness. My contribution is entitled, “A Currency of Wishes”, a title I’ll confess I love. I hope readers will love the story, too.
Editor Judy Penz Sheluk has created a fun puzzle to solve while waiting for the book’s release in June. Here’s the link to it: https://www.jigsawp

Blog postMy first great-niece was born this week, a long-anticipated spot of joy in the midst of this pandemic. I greeted the news with a mix of relief and euphoria. Relief because she was safely here and euphoria because she was safely here.
I’m feeling a bit of melancholy, too, because my parents—her great-grandparents—are not with us these many years and she will never know them. They’ll never hold her, or feed her or read her a story.
But I will, and I’ll tell her1 year ago Read more -
Blog postIt may take longer than 50 words to relate this fabulous news about my 50-word Matchbook winning story, “Whodunnit?”
When I won the 3rd annual Matchbook Story Contest, sponsored by the San Diego Public Library, I never imagined it would lead to an amazing dramatization of my tiny tale. But such is the case, as I learned while attending the Virtual Gala to announce this year’s winner. A retrospective of previous winning entries, including mine, consisted of dramatic readings set t2 years ago Read more -
Blog postNow that we are here, in the week before Christmas, it seems a good time to sum up this year, which has been full of anxiety, more than a little chaos, lots of heartbreak, and a few bright moments just to liven things up.
At the beginning of the pandemic, it seemed we’d all be spending lots of time at home. I thought I could take that opportunity to springboard to improved behaviors for all the usual things on my list: eating, exercising, clutter control. I could consume m2 years ago Read more
