“Keep Moving speaks to you like an encouraging friend reminding you that you can feel and survive deep loss, sink into life’s deep beauty, and constantly, constantly make yourself new.” —Glennon Doyle, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love Warrior and Untamed
For fans of Anne Lamott and Cleo Wade, a collection of quotes and essays on facing life’s challenges with creativity, courage, and resilience.
When Maggie Smith, the award-winning author of the viral poem “Good Bones,” started writing daily Twitter posts in the wake of her divorce, they unexpectedly caught fire. In this deeply moving book of quotes and essays, Maggie writes about new beginnings as opportunities for transformation. Like kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold, Keep Moving celebrates the beauty and strength on the other side of loss. This is a book for anyone who has gone through a difficult time and is wondering: What comes next?

As a graphic designer, I love everything about this hard copy. The colors are vibrant, the text is chunked in a digestable way which encourages the reader to meditate and take time with each poem. As another reviewer mentioned, there is an instance where the white text is difficult to read on the turquoise color block. This is an isolated incident on page 6. Hopefully something that can be corrected before future print runs. It would not stop me from buying more copies of this wonderfully raw and inspiring piece.

I didn't sit down and read it through when it arrived, but I've picked it up numerous times since and read a poem or essay here and there. Some books you buy tell a story and are intended to be read from cover to cover. This one isn't (in my mind) but it could be. Instead, I find myself leafing through the various pieces and reading. The thoughts it inspires wander through my mind for days ... and I like that.

I found "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road" by Neil Peart a much better read and more useful in managing my pain. What he felt and described that he was going through after his loss mirrored my own some many times I thought he was reading my mind - although he described it better than I ever could have. In the end his book doesn't tell you how to get over your pain but by traveling with him you realize that each of us have to find an outlet to help us heal. It could be through art, or fishing or hiking or whatever you find helps YOU. In his case it was traveling around Canada, the US and Mexico by motorbike and I found that that's just what I'd need too. HIs book helped me much more than this one did.
