Laugh out loud comedy - "Just split the cookie!"
Verified purchase
YES! Fun AND funny. This movie is so much fun to watch, and several laugh out loud moments. Several reviews already stole my "Headline" ... "Just split the cookie!" - that line will make you laugh for a while. Galifianakis plays a bit against type here as a straight arrow family man, and understanding HR employee. John Hamm, has incredible comedic timing, ("oh Jesus Jeff"), and is a perfect humor match for this role. Both female leads are excellent comedians, and beautiful to look at. In fact the entire style of this film is really fun to watch. The chemistry between all four actors is rarely seen in an ensemble cast.

The bottom line - great film, and a pleasant surprise. John Hamm should get more comedy roles - he's really good in my opinion. I haven't read all reviews, but I think this was so much fun to watch, (still I'm sure many will disagree). If you've enjoyed films like "The Hangover" I think you will find this one amusing. Very little cursing, (I know that is important to a lot of viewers), and no nudity (just women in underwear). All in all pretty wholesome comedy that has a sophisticated feel to it.

this movie starts slow, thaas why i gave it a 4,
it was getting really boring, at first, a family that lives at the end of the block
nothing new right, than a new people bu y the house across the street from them,
who buys a house sight unseen? thats what they are asking, so when the moving trucks show up
Karen hides behind the curtains and spies on the people to see who they are and she finds
out, there up to something and then one day the new couple , the john's show up
to Karen and her hubby's house , they talk and make friends
then a few days later , Karen follows Mrs Jones to the mall, and watches her to see what she is doing
she sees something and hoes back and reports it ti her husband , he is a the head of HR, so he knows how to
tel when people are telling lies, skip to another day, as it raps up the Jones and Karen all say good night
well , the Jones house blows up, than the action and all kinds of weird and funny stuff comes to life
and the Karen and her husband end up being part of it and not by choice mind you!
things all get worked out and the Jones decides to move on, but Karen and her husband has decided
they are neighbors and friends they can come stay with them and you got to see what happens
it may seem like the movie is over, but just a second and it will be next summer and something else happens again, , if you need a good belly laugh, watch this show! you get to see gal gadot in a linger shot and then again in a girl on girl lip lock, its all fitting for the movie at it point and you will see why, it wil all make sense even if some parts do not!! you will not be sorry, if you watch the movie!!

Funny With Plenty of Adrenaline

I've said it before and will say it again: Jon Hamm is W-A-Y under-used. He is one of the most versatile actors, incredibly handsome with a load of natural charisma and can slide into any character carrying any emotional scene with credibility. He really brought it home in this film. He's Mr. Cool, a little of Bond going on and has perfect timing with humor, all while being one sexy dude.

The all-American suburban couple living on a culdesac, USA, become twitter-pated and suspicious when a fresh, smart, perfectly beautiful couple move into a house across the street. The home is bought sight-unseen----cash----which makes the nervous neighbors wary. And so, between snoopy neighbors and cool-headed neighbors, let the fun begin. Everybody plays their roles well. The incredibly gorgeous couple, Hamm and Gadot, never loose their cool---and Jon has incredible delivery of quiet humor throughout the movie, which adds a most pleasing balance to the high-speed car chases. It's a spy story like none other. Soooo much fun to watch! Greg Mottola did an excellent job of directing this movie and brought out the best of each actor.

Lots of shooting, car chases, accidents but nothing graphic, mixed with fun antics and mishaps; tight spots and escapes. Great ending! One wild and crazy almost-sex scene (no clothes came off) that isn't offensive but just by nature isn't for kids. One F word but the most offensive thing is the profanity that is sprinkled (not saturated) from beginning to end (meaning the use of God and Jesus----the language of choice in this film it seems).

For Hamm's and Gabot's portrayal of the undercover spies (they were the good guys), 10 stars. All the others were a definite 5 stars. Taking a star away for the language, really wanted to take away 2 or 3 but the movie was so entertaining I decided to be generous. Would LOVE to see more of Jon Hamm (period) and Gabot teaming up together in the future. They're really charismatic together---perfect chemistry.

and better. I realize we like to put a fresh ...

This movie has been done before, and better. I realize we like to put a fresh spin on things for younger audiences and I enjoy that, but the only thing new here are the actors, who in my opinion didn't have the charisma to pull this off. The only scene I thought was original in the entire movie was the "snake restaurant" which had promise, but it ended up being predictable. Without giving too much away, I was secretly hoping for a passed out face plant on the table, ending with the snake clamping on to his nose...that may have made me crack up. If you watch this, tell me that would not have made a better scene in a comedy.

Other than that, it was pretty cliche, so if this genre of ordinary people being caught up as spies is new, you may enjoy it more than I did. My recommendation would be to stop now and rent Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Man Who Knew Too Little, True Lies or the Man With One Red Shoe. Even Killers was much more engaging and entertaining so you can see my standards aren't exactly over the top.

To sum it up, my opinion of this is, it is a sitting around drinking with a group of friends movie. In other words, you don't mind if you miss a scene or two because someone starts talking. It wasn't a horrible movie, but it was not all that funny and less than moderately exciting.

A little bit of a take on 'Killers'
Verified purchase
I have to admit there is a lot of eye candy in this movie, in the form of the new neighbors who fall into a suburban environment and wreak havoc for one couple. This is where the plot falls apart, and it happens right away: the problems emanating from spies would not be noticed by or affecting just one couple.

The movie 'Killers' took this idea and produced a better result, a few years ago. There was the added advantage that Ashton Kutcher is sexier than Zach Galifianakis. On the sexy meter, Katherine Heigl even surpasses Gal Gadot, but I believe that is because she is a better actress and has a better role.

If you like the 'suburbs turned inside out' theme, you will like both movies. 'Keeping Up With the Joneses' is extremely lightweight. Congratulations to Zach G. for making human resources one of the most interesting aspects of the plot!

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES is a highly predictable movie with a great cast. The Gaffneys (Isla Fisher and Zach Galifiaknakis) have new neighbors. The Joneses (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot) are sexy and awfully perfect. Karen Gaffney soon realizes her perfect neighbors are spies or are they? It didn't take long for me to realize what was going on and who the good and bad guys were. The clues are there early on.

The story follows a common plot with few surprises...well, they come later. There is a great, unexpected car chase and Patton Oswalt is hilarious as the insecure "scorpion." Humor and suspense fill the last quarter of the film so it is worth a watch. I wish Oswalt's character had some earlier in the movie. The bromance between Jeff Gaffney and Tim Jones is somewhat is somewhat sweet. Every spy needs a best buddy and every bored middle-class HR executive needs a mysterious friend.

It's a fun film but not exceptional. The action scenes are sprinkled through the film as is the humor. Predictable and pleasant. KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES is just an okay film.
With his looks and charm, Jon Hamm is the perfect spy. Isla Fisher is delightful as the suspicious neighbor.

Very enjoyable movie

Although this movie never made a huge impact, I found it quite enjoyable. The actors do good in there respective roles and the movie's tone stays consistent. I did especially appreciate that the movie did not belittle the domestic couple to elevate the spy couple. A trope that is done in so many other similar movies. I thought it was refreshing to have Jon Hamm's super spy character envy the simplicity and honesty of the domestic couples life to a point that he hated being a spy, which caused conflict in his marriage with Gal Gadot's character.
Gal Gadot played her character well, but it was nothing spectacular.

Jon Hamm, Wonder Woman, Zach whatever his name is..... you can't go wrong
Verified purchase
Surprisingly funny, well put together, and it was really nice to see Jon Hamm again after Mad Men died a few years back, Zach galifinakis is a real gym and is quite funny even when he isn't saying anything and the addition of Wonder Woman certainly rounded out this flick and made it very very enjoyable to watch. It's not rocket science it's not calculus but it is pure entertainment nicely put together and most certainly worth a rental if not a purchase. We rented the movie not knowing how good it would be. I wish Amazon would let you credit the cost of the rental fee towards a purchase on a movie like this because if so I would have bought it. Now I have to wait a while until it goes Prime! This one is worth a look and truly hilarious.
