Nas, Live from the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra

 (50)

When Nas was just 19 years old, he composed what would become one of hip-hop's defining masterpieces, Illmatic. To mark its 20th anniversary, Nas delivers a standout performance with the National Symphony Orchestra at DC's Kennedy Center. Between songs, the program cuts away to both archival and new interview footage to document Nas' rise from Queensbridge upstart to influential rap icon.

Great arranging with the orchestra plus extra footage from back in the day & behind the scenes

When I heard that Nas was not only going to perform his Illmatic album at Washington D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center, but that it was going to be on PBS’s Great Performances as well I was blown away. Who would’ve thought years ago that Hip Hop would rise to this level?

I have to say they did an amazing job with the arranging mixing in a DJ, a traditional band with a keyboard, drums, and electric bass with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Sliced into the concert is old documentary footage from when Nas first broke out onto the Hip Hop limelight along with some behind the scenes shots from when they were preparing for the show.

If you love Nas and 90s Hip Hop this will really be a blast to watch.

This was so dope! Nas looks and sounds good even after all these years! He's aged like wine! The National Symphony Ochestra did a phenomenal job, especially on a genre unfamiliar to what they usually play. Outstanding!!!

I watched it twice. I'm a metal head and loved every minute of this. Illmatic is still one of the best hip hop records of all time.

Not a fan of missing the two genres. It sounds like noise, it doesn't flow. Just my opinion.

A well deserved recognition of the level of achievement Nas has reached over the past 30 years. Beautiful orchestration and arrangement. High energy, good vibrations.
