In most cases, your fob stops working because (a) the battery is dead, or (b) the contacts on the back of the buttons aren't making a good connection. I'm not sure if that's because the rubber breaks down, or if it wears down inside, or what. If your battery's dead, it's easy enough to replace. But if that doesn't work, , this KeylessOption fob is a great solution to the weak contact problem -- without having to take it anywhere to get programmed. All you really need is the rubber button piece from the new fob.
If you like the look & color of the new fob, open up your old one, take out that little circuit board looking thingy only, and put it in the new fob. If you would rather use your old fob and just want it to work correctly, then remove the rubber piece that has the buttons from the new one, and put it in your old fob. The circuit thing in your old fob is already programmed to work for your car, so as long as it's in whichever case you use, there's no need to find a dealer or locksmith who will charge you to program it. Easy peasy.
UPDATE: It has been almost 2 years now and one of the fobs still works perfectly- the other one went through the washer and dryer and doesn't work any longer! At least my daughter now knows why I tell her to check all her pockets before throwing clothes in the laundry! Regardless I am still quite happy with the purchase and will buy another to replace the one my daughter ruined.
I got this one in and just swapped the little circuit board in the new one for the one in my old one and viola! everything works again. Since your old board is programmed to the car if the problem is the buttons aren't making great contact with the sensors anymore, this will do the trick without having to take it to get programmed. I did also rob the battery from the new board and inserted into the old because might as well reset the battery since it comes with it.
Might not work for you if your problem was different than mine, but worth a try....
