SOMETIMES THE SHUTTER DOESN'T OPEN WHEN YOU PUSH THE SHUTTER BUTTON.
If you are getting black photos, this is 100 percent the reason why. What I figured out is that you have to listen verrrry closely for the shutter.
What I would do is first, before putting any film in the printer, set it up as if you're going to print a photo, but don't put your phone on top. Instead, turn on the flashlight on your phone, and point it at the shutter and push the shutter button a bunch of times, looking for the shutter to actually open (I promise you can see it). ALSO IT SOUNDS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WHEN THE SHUTTER OPENS COMPARED TO WHEN IT DOESN'T OPEN.
BE COMPLETELY FAMILIAR WITH THAT SOUND.
So now, when you're actually trying to print a photo, DO NOT ROLL THE PRINT OUT UNLESS YOU HEAR THE SHUTTER SOUND FIRST (so keep pushing the shutter button).
I am not sure if this is what the manufacturer intended, but it is how it is. Maybe the ones that you have to do this are defective? If so. Kii pix, could you please consider sending me a new one? Because this is pretty dumb.
The reason I think my printer is defective is because I have been watching videos of other people using this printer, and when they hit the shutter button it makes a MUCH LOUDER SOUND than my shutter button.
I am glad I decided to try KiiPix, despite some negative reviews. I bought the film in bulk to save and also found that it works with Polaroid 300. It takes a little practice to get the best pictures. I had a few images that came out darker, but was able to play with the photo settings and they turned out really nice. I am definetely going to use this with my 5th graders this year. We take pictures in the classroom and I think my kids will have a lot of fun with it!
I would definitely recommend over the HP Sproket and Fuji Instax camera for that matter. Who needs a camera when you have your phone!!!
At first I was like, what is this, but once I set it up and used it I called her to let her know it was a pretty fun little gadget.
I take so many pictures on my phone, but don’t always have time to send them somewhere to have them developed, this solved that instantly. I like that I can print out any picture at once, I’ve put them in a photo board in my apartment, and it’s fun to keep adding new photos whenever I want. It’s compact, lightweight and now my only worry is running out of film to print off my crazy photos! I may even send a couple to my mom to put up in her office.
If you have a kid in college, it’s a nice way to decorate a dorm room or apartment. I love this little printer!
The photos were retro cute. It takes some practice to find the right balance of light: display brightness and room lighting. Yes, ROOM LIGHTING too! I printed one photo by my window blinds and the photo came out with stripes. I think the light coming through the cracks of my window blinds somehow affected the print.
That being said, I don't mind it because that is part of the fun. You can adjust lighting to create your perfect retro looking picture, instead of industrialized photo prints. I feel this would be a good education toy for kids too, to get them started thinking about the mechanism of camera and photos.
Overall, great value for money for something under $40. Perfect for gifting or home use.

Before I explain further, this device does NOT come provided with any film to get you started, so if you decide this product is right for you, please do make sure you add some 'Instax Mini Film' alongside in your basket; a pack of 20 typically costs around £15.
The packaging highlights the following facts about this product:
1) Doesn't require batteries.
2) Doesn't require WiFi.
3) Is portable.
Whilst these points are very true, it's important to note that:
1) Most of the electric pocket printers are rechargeable; they can also be powered on the go with a portable power bank if need be.
2) Most, if not all smartphones that you would be using this with, should have WiFi features in-built, so not a great marketing point if you ask me.
3) It's compact, but not pocket size compact such as printers like the Fijifilm SP-2, which are way more compact than this device (I know, because I bought one myself).
With all that out of the way, the set up process of this device is actually very simple; but it can be a bit of a hassle due to the fact you need to go into your settings and bump up the brightness to max; preferably set it so your display doesn't auto-dim or turn off after a short amount of time; then it's aligning which is tricky, even when using the mirror.
Once you have everything all aligned, simply press the shutter tab down and rotate the print knob until the photo comes out fully, then voila! Just wait until the film processes itself which normally takes up to a minute.
Providing your phone is aligned properly and no pop-ups come up just before you press the shutter, the results are decent enough and I'm sure many people will be happy with that. I do want to point out if you get any streaks in your image, they will fade out; all my prints had slight stripes across them when using this device but by the next day, they had disappeared.
All in all, it does what it says on the tin and for the price, you can't really expect any more or less; the price point in my opinion is very reasonable; however if you are wanting that little extra quality and the ability to know exactly how your prints are going to come out alignment wise, save up for the Fujifilm SP-2 which is expensive, but worth every penny.
Yes, it doesn't compare to the SP2 or SP3 Instax printers (on a convenience point of view) but its a fraction of the cost!
Its very well packaged, the instructions are clear and very straight forward.
The Instax Mini cartridges fit perfectly.
The print quality is just as hit and miss as the instant cameras or instant printers so, for the price, I'm happier with this.
I see some reviewers commented on all the photos coming out blank... the only way that would happen is if you open the device and removed the photo cartridge and then placed it back into the device later down the line. This would expose all the prints to direct light and cause them all to bleach out.
Follow the instructions and you'll get great nostalgic prints!
Don't try printing in direct sunlight, or under heavy indoor lighting... this will over expose and ruin your photos.
It didn't cross my mind to start, but I bought the Mono Chrome photos... this is pointless when you can change photos to mono on you phone ~ obviously! ...gave the Mono photo pack to a friend with an Instax Mini camera.
I did have a jam while trying to print a photo... I had no choice but to open the device. Went into a dimly lit room, popped out the cartridge, replaced the cartridge, and wound the mechanism until the jammed photo popped out (super easy). It only over exposed that one photo, bleaching it white. The rest of the photos in the cartridge printed perfectly!
No batteries needed, no Wi-Fi!
Massively impressed with this little printer!
The film is expensive too. Much cheaper to get your own photo paper and you get better quality photos.
Although there has been a few reviews saying that certain prints have not worked out, I found that if you follow all the directions, then your pictures will be perfectly retro and perfect.
One of the great things about this, over having an instax camera, is that you can crop/enlarge and even use screanshots of anything you'd like to have a picture of.
My eldest daughter has an I stax camera but since buying this printer, all her fim has been used with the printer!
I am surprised at how good the images are from this printer - yes they are a bit "retro" with Polaroid colour tint, and they are in no way as good as digital prints, but they are clear, crisp and very viewable. If you want digital prints then look somewhere else, but these are great fun and you can display them in a load of fun ways. Currently the film is about £15 for 20 shots which at 75p per print is a bit pricey but I have found the results to be worth it. And of course you can shoot, crop and edit before you print for better results than an instant camera.
The device feels a little bit brittle and cheap, but it clips together positively and with a little bit of care should last for years as there are no electronics or batteries to worry about. I also had a bit of trouble positioning my Galaxy S8+ due to the curve of the screen, but with a bit of care this was easily resolved. It also is a bit large for carrying in a pocket - maybe bag sized.
Overall this is a great product. The whole family have been using it since we got it and we are now on our fourth pack of film.
