This is been a great series so far. I know I can add book five, Killer Run. I enjoyed the characters in series including the main character, Jill, in every novel of the series so far never manages the trouble, or trouble finds her way to often, between running a bookstore and never resisting the chances to sleuth, even at the dismay of her police detective boyfriend, Greg King, reminds her to stay out of the police investigation.

What's the mystery this time? Well on top of running her store, Jill finally gets excepted into the Mission Society, but they still can't verify her claim actually of the authenticity of the Mission Site, so the runner-up prize is she has to host an annual run sponsoring the Mission Society, which brings in a a couple runs a eventorganizing company simply known as Promote Your Event, and everything seems going according to plan until the day they basically go through the one run-through of the Mission Run, and by accident somebody, not Jill. Finds the body of Sandra Ashford the wife in the husband-and-wife event planning duo, which yet again brings Jill into solving another mystery

This book is the fifth in the "Tourist Trap Mystery" series by Lynn Cahoon. I'm a huge fan of this cozy series. The protagonist, Jill, is a former lawyer who owns a coffee shop / book store in a tourist town. This installment deals with a "fun run" type fundraising event sponsored by the local small businesses. One of the event organizers is found dead, and the book deals with Jill trying to solve the murder mystery.

Of course, like most cozy mysteries, having the bookstore owner solve the murder, particularly when her boyfriend is a police detective (of course) is a bit unlikely, but that's the fun of them.

The only irritating thing I found was Jill's aunt, who lost her money in a confidence scheme and now works at the bookstore and does the books. She treats Jill as if Jill works for her, and is very dictatorial and insulting. I'm not one to argue about the motivations or behavior of book characters, but it would seem that Jill could show a little more backbone and stand up to her aunt, but that's just me.

Overall, I think this is a great series, and am looking forward to the next installment!

I enjoy this series. I'm not sure why, as the stories are somewhat predictable, but they just provide a "comfortable" reading experience - no deep thinking required. I initially read the first book because the setting sounded so much like Cambria, California, a place I am happy to be able to visit frequently. If I wanted to be snarky, I might mention the author's overuse of details, as in something like the step-by-step description of the main character's preparation of a tuna salad, "I opened the can with the opener I had attached to the laundry room door, and put it upside-down in the sick to drain off the oil." Or, "I went to the cupboard and opened the box of dog biscuits I bought on sale in town. I took one out, and tossed it outside into the dark backyard, knowing Emma was out there somewhere." (These are NOT quotations - I made them up so I didn't have to go fire up my Kindle for examples!) Anyway, for some, I'm sure this adds to the feeling of being in the story setting. I just find it rather tedious after five books. The characters are interesting, and the author has a great sense of humor, especially when it comes to the main character's skill at rationalizing about her crazy eating habits. I look forward to the next book.

Love this little series. Funny, fast paced and easy to pick up and put down. BUT, it would be nice if someone would fact check. Wainscoting does not go anywhere near the ceiling. Perhaps she meant crown molding? And I am really curious to see how Greg's mom is resurrected for a Mother's Day meal later in the series.

Jill and Darla, mostly Darla, have planned the whole thing when a couple days ahead of it, the professional PR folks show up in snitty moods. When the wife half of the PR team is found dead on the race course, Jill tries to stay out of it. Meanwhile, a local hobby shop owned by a friendly widower is repeatedly vandalized and he asks Jill to get to the bottom of it as the cops are busy with the murder. Aunt Jackie is coming to grips with her own mortality so Jill and her do some snooping to keep her feeling useful. Usual shenanigans in South Cove with the cast of characters getting a bit of shift with less Esmerelda magic. Look forward to visiting these folks for a simple fun mystery. Killer set up was pretty obvious but the hows and connections were still nice to watch develop

This book takes the young shop owner and her cop boyfriend into another murder. And it's just as much fun as the others in the series.

On the negative side, Jill reminds me of Lucy in "I Love Lucy". She is always wanting to get involved in her man's business, and even though she has proven to be very good at it, he still treats her like a child who needs to be monitored and protected. That does get a little irksome.

But I still finished the book. And I still enjoyed it. And I will most likely buy more in the series. All the characters are likeable and the town is one I would love to visit. And I'd want some of that cheesecake they are always eating.

With the acceptance of the mission wall in the grounds of her home in South Cove, California by the local preservation society still unconfirmed, bookstore café owner Jill Gardner is happy to support a local 5k charity run, especially if it helps her cause. With winery owner and organiser extraordinaire Darla in charge everyone is sure it will be a surefire success, everyone except the company hired to promote the event.

The week after the walk Jill and boyfriend Greg, the local police detective, are off on a cruise to Alaska but when a body is found by one of the competitors she can't help but suggest the steps he should be taking, just to speed things along!

Book five hits the spot once again. These novels are of a consistently high standard with a cast of familiar characters who brighten any time spent in their company. I am enjoying this series of books enormously.
