OK, this review isn't about the Kindle. Which by the way I loved. It's about the bad experience I had trying to trade a 6th generation ipad and an Amazon tablet in for credit toward it. At first it worked ok, I sent them the items and they instantly gave me a 115.00 for both. The Kindle arrived quickly and I was in love. Plus I felt good to not dump more e-waste into our already huge problem of disposal as a country. Ever wonder where all those old TV's, computers, laptops, etc go? Anyway life is good till my trade ins are sent back and I'm billed for my Kindle. So, crushed I sent my Kindle back, I could have kept it, but, my purpose was to recycle old for new. Maybe the all mighty Amazon will be the first to step up and start recycling our waste, maybe not. Anyway I read my books from my phone and dream of one day when people and companies wise up. Waste not, want not.

Software glitches and lots and lots of ads

I had to replace my old Kindle because I did not store it properly when charging. It has to be flat not at an angle. Otherwise I would still have it. The new Kindle was replaced for the same problem and the replacement has EXACTLY the same software glitch. The highlight utility does not work. I get a line and then when I go to use the highlighter via the text box it goes completely out. I never had this problem with my previous Kindle. Moreover, there are very few options to fix software glitches on the Kindles as a general rule. They are: restart it or reload the operating system--that is it. So I guess I am stuck with a defective Kindle because the replacement does exactly the same thing.
Furthermore I wanted to have a clear opening page so I paid the extra 20 dollars plus tax to remove the ads; I definitely did NOT get what I paid for. There is still a banner of ads on the opening page cluttering up the space I need for my categories of books. It is downright dishonest to advertise that customer can pay 20 dollars plus tax and STILL have the ads cluttering up the home page. I sent Bezos a letter and my complaint was not answered. All I got was a electronic review message and no action on my complaints.
With respect to the ads this Kindle is worse than the one it replaced. It has even more ads. Plus a serious software glitch that doesn't look like it can be successfully resolved. The caveat emptor applies here: let the buyer beware: Amazon disappoints to put it mildly.

This is a nice bundle and I adore my paperwhite. For me the case is fine when I want a really slim one but there are much better ones with little handles or kick stands to make holding it easier. But all in all it's a great bundle and nice to have everything in one for gifting to a book lover.

I had a paper white before and loved it but it was getting a bit slow so I wanted to upgrade it. Can I just say dark mode alone is worth it especially when I’m trying to put the baby to bed. Love it!

Some things are annoying-like the power button and the USB port being on the bottom of the kindle. Hard to find when it's dark and cord gets in the way. Other kindle's are easier to figure out without having to read the owner's manuel. Don't care for the changes from the Fire commands to these. This is great in the sun though. 3 stars for that.

I've had a Kindle since gen1, and only needed to upgrade when I lost my old one. I read all the time and loved the long battery life, and being able to carry an entire library around in the palm of my hand, however it was better when they had side buttons in both sides and didn't have the back light. The battery doesn't last nearly as long and it's not as easy on the eyes as the older displays. I hate the touchscreen and miss the 2nd generation kindle that did text to audio for free on all books. I also think it's super stupid that you have to buy the kindle version even if you own the hardcopy. You should be able to download the ebook if you already own it on hard copy. I have a pretty big library that I love, but would also like to be able to read the book without having to carry around the hardcopy or buying it again as an ebook, sure the kindle version is slightly cheaper than the hardcover, but it still gets expensive buying old series you already read and own, while trying to keep up with new ones too. It's absolutely asinine that they now charge more for the audiobook than the actual book when the second generation of kindle let you hear it for free. I don't really like audio books, but sometimes you have your hands full but don't want to stop reading. They should have just stopped with the 2nd or 3rd generation because they totally ruined it. A kindle used to be a separate thing than a tablet, awesome for reading books, then they turned it into a shitty tablet. They took all the great things from kindle and ruined it. The e-ink display didn't have a glare and was super easy on your eyes unlike phone/computer/tablet displays, the battery lasted forever, and you could turn the page back or forward on both the right and left side, so you could hold it however you want and keep reading now you can't. I already own a tablet and it's way nicer and more useful than this is. I used to want both a kindle and my tablet now I just use my phone or tablet.

I am so happy with the Kindle Paperwhite. The price was right for a perfect sized reader I can carry on my travels. But I have found that I use it at home since it is easier to read than a larger, heavy book, especially in bed. Also, 1000's of book available for instant purchase at reasonable prices.
