However, this dried mango is inedible.
When picked green & forced to ripen, mango will look ripe but the fruit will be TASTELESS.
When sliced too thin & dehydrated too long, the fruit hardens because it’s over-dried.
Any attempt to return, EPIC FAILURE. Turns out the seller is not KIRKLAND, but a 3rd Party. AVOID SELLER: ZEBERT
If Amazon had revealed this was a 3rd party seller -we wouldn’t have ordered this.
I tried to like them but just can't. Its like they were what was "leftover" after all the better pieces were gone... kinda like the small burnt fries at the bottom of the batch. The whole bag was like this.
I think highly of the Kirkland name with dried fruits and nuts etc -- but these are embarrassing. They are stale, small slices and a high percentage are discolored and very rubbery\chewy. They certainly are not the cheeks of the mango -- in fact you get the impression that these small slices have been scraped off the tough outer rind of the mango after the fleshy part of the fruit has already been harvested. To their marginal credit there is some mango taste to the fruit and it hasn't been sweetened up -- but it is soooo far below the quality of the good producer's dried organic mangos that -- well, it is just embarrassing.
Put it this way. You decide to propose to your girl friend and you know she's a romantic and has always wanted to get engaged on a gondola in Venice with a gondolier singing Puccini as he rows down a canal. But you figure to save a few cents so you book a passage on a refuse barge headed down the Erie canal with a tugboat horn celebrating the big event. These mangos are the Erie Canal option. Live large; don't be stupid and don't waste your money on the refuse barge option.
In my experience, if you open a bag of dried mangoes that doesn't have any initial brown coloration, some of those mango slices will start oxidizing to brownish in a week or less, unless pre-treated with fruit acid from an external source or other preservatives (or you protect them longer-terms with an oxygen absorber product, for example).
In summary: the discolored mangoes in the bag from Kirkland are still tasty and not harmful, in my opinion, at least. The full flavor is there. My whole family is eating Kirkland mangoes and we're known to be picky about things like this. If you are looking for a big bag of dried organic mangoes I hope this info helps you out.
