Pretty Good, Jenny Slate is worth watching!
Verified purchase
This is my honest opinion of the movie; It was pretty good. I really wanted to give it 5 stars to balance out all of the people that are giving it one star, but that would be strange I guess. It's not, like, super 90's accurate, that's really not the deal here. It's just about a bunch of flawed people trying to be a family. Jenny Slate is hilarious and wonderful and Edie Falco and John Turturro are great. People are really upset about the sex and the vulgarity, it's not super graphic, it's just normal movie sex scenes with some comedy. People have sex! People curse! Yeesh!

If you every have doubts about gravity ...

Jul 2021 -- If you every have doubts about gravity, just watch about 5-minutes of this movie. There is over an hour-plus, but don't worry you can pick any snippet you wish. THIS MOVIE SUCKS, AND SUCKED, AND CONTINUED TO SUCK.

It just never got started, and it never got better. Stale, worn out, overworked, and underdeveloped cliche theme ... jewish man, shiksa and two stereo-typical 'princesses.' Angst simply drips from this movie, with no resolution. Unhappy relationships all around, their marriage stinks, the daughter is confused about her husband/live-in and other daughter is easy and stupid. Get the idea. When girls find out about an affair, they tell the other spouse, and in the process --- hollywood miracle --- everyone finds out the true nature of enduring love. NOT!

Did I mentioned this was a waste of time. If not, let me emphasize that point. Insulting. Crap. Awful. Well, you get the point.

Don't Waste Your Time

This was absolutely awful. I've had prime for years, and this is the first review I've ever written. I feel duty bound to let as many people know not to waste the few precious moments we have in life on this heinous pile of triceratops dung from Jurassic Park. But seriously, it's not a comedy, it's a drama with few funny moments. It's a bad story poorly told. The title 'Landline' and setting it in 95, I was looking forward to some nostalgia, but it was sparse. There was no real reason to set this in the 90's. And I'm going to stop now because I no longer want to waste any more of my life on this wet pile of garbage.

Not worth it!
Verified purchase
I remember for the past few years seeing this movie listed on prime. I wanted so badly to like this movie since it was set in the 90s. The young daughter's language was disrespectful, but from my life experience, I found that part of that behavior is spot on with some angry teen girls from 90s. I did not like seeing people being intimate in the first seconds of the movie. I skip through most of it and was glad when it ended. This is not worth it if you do not care to see unnecessary sex scenes. The older sister's infidelity was beforehand seen when she ran into that person at a party. I wished they would have extended more on the 90s era. It was slow and I still don't know when it actually begin. I waited all this time to watch this and it was not worth it!

Annoying
Verified purchase
Annoying is what sums up this movie. The most annoying part is the narrator who literally recites every move made by the actors. It's really pointless, I can see what the actors are doing so need to repeat it unless you are adding some value to it. Besides the monotonous voiceover is just tacky. They tried to be Woody Allenesque and failed miserably. This movie should be set as an example as to how not try too hard to be "edgy". Also it also makes you appreciate the brilliance of Woody Allen movies and how difficult it is to produce them.

Really, Really Good

You can't go wrong with two of the best low-key actors in the business right now.

The entire ensemble cast did a good job of trying to seem like real people. It worked to a certain extent if you suspend your disbelief.

You could actually see them splitting up and getting back together and splitting up, ad nauseum. They weren't perfect but they were trying real hard at it.

I liked the tightness of the script and the tying up of all the loose ends. They weren't the Cosby's (Huxtables) or the Connors. They were somewhere right in the middle.

This was a good working of a family sit-com too rich for 90's TV.

This is a good movie. This shows an innocence about people even in the face of a flawed character which was present in the '90s. Nowadays everyone knows everything, they are too crass, too indignant in general. These girls are flawed but childlike, and it reminds us of the mistakes we made, albeit wrapped in a sense of innocence. These days movies and shows portray teenagers and 20 somethings with unrealistic hardness and lack of self respect. The dad is such a good actor with such sensitivity and an old soul quality. I loved watching the scenes he was in. The daughter's husband is in Transparent, and he's equally outstanding in his acting skills with his vulnerability in this movie. I gave it four stars because there is the slightest bit of cheese in the atmosphere, especially when the older daughter is in the scene, but you'll forgive her for it for some reason. This movie's audience is probably primarily teenaged girls and women in their twenties. They will enjoy it immensely. Edie Falco delivers her expected genuine performance. The younger daughter and her boyfriend have a chemistry which is better than most actors beyond their years. I recommend this movie.

The Hillary Clinton- Parallel
Verified purchase
This movie covers a vast amount of family dynamics. Starting with the breadwinning mother/wife in the 90's when women were starting to get high powered careers. Hillary Clinton was a role model, hence the mother dons the pink business suite and does the copycat hairstyle. There is so much in this movie that the only way it could be missed is by a viewer lacking in any life experience. I can't say enough about it. It is one of the best true to life movies I have scene in a very long time. There was something called "Heroin Chic" in the nineties. The Calvin Klein models dressed to follow this look of being "Heroin Chic" It had a bad effect and it's touched on in this film. There are so many subtle gestures and some no-so-subtle comments in this movie that cover the truth behind our actions in life.
