That's where this monitor comes in. I was skeptical of how well it would work with my MBP since USB-C monitors are still a new technology, and are likely no where as good as they will be in a year or two from now. In about a week of usage, I have yet to have a single problem. Power delivery for my 13" MBP is great- I experience no loss of power when doing more intensive activities like encoding large video files. Not a single flicker or loss of image yet.
To date, there is only one HUGE (for me at least) flaw that I have found in this monitor. When connecting to any device via USB-C, it limits the speed on the two USB-A ports on the back of the monitor to 2.0. I planned on using Windows To Go in this setup by mounting a SSD to the back of the monitor and running Windows off of it. I definitely can't maintain a stable boot of Windows 10 using this setup. I could use a USB-C to DP or HDMI cable for my MBP and then the USB-A ports would go back to 3.0 speeds, but in that case I might as well have purchased the UD88 model and saved about a hundred dollars.
I really don't understand how this monitor can't output USB 3.0 speeds while maintaining a USB-C connection given that it still uses an external power brick. I'd think that the huge power brick would allow it to provide the necessary power to do this. I was bummed by this, but I didn't find it to be a deal breaker.
Backlight bleed was minimal, and the image quality is excellent. I use it with my Xbox One X, and can verify that you will receive all green check marks in the 4K details screen. I had no trouble setting up the console with this monitor, even with FreeSync and HDR 10.
Works great with Xbox One X and Macbook Pro
Great image quality
Responsive OSD controls
Lots of ports
External power brick
USB-A ports default to 2.0 speeds if you connect a computer via USB-C
Can't control volume through keyboard buttons unless connected to bluetooth speaker for audio (Don't think many monitors can do this though)
Color wise- this panel is fantastic, minimal to no light bleed. People will complain about HDR needing a display with more NITS, when in reality, I found myself turning down the brightness when the monitor kicks into HDR mode as it defaults to 100% brightness. What this argument fails to take into account is that yes, HDR content needs more NITS, but that's accounting for sitting very close as you would with a monitor.
I use this one alongside a non-HDR previous gen LG 27UD88 (I've had since January) with a 2017 Macbook Pro via a Caldigit 3 Thunderbolt 3 dock (see the attached pic). Using Displayport on the 27850UK (left display) and USB-C connector on my 27UD88 (right display) to connect both displays to my dock . Haven't gamed on it much as of yet (time hasn't permitted).
If you're not in HDR mode, these monitors are almost identical display-wise. The noticeable differences are:
- The bezel (both plastic, the older UD88 has an aluminium-color while the UK850 went for all black)
- The UK850 has speakers (again as I said above, not great, but they do the job)
- The menu is redesigned (most people won't care about this, but if you're used to flicking down to turn off the UD88, just know that you flick UP to turn off the UK850) lol
- HDR .. I have nothing to compare it against as it's my first HDR display. I tested it using an XBox One S and a few UHD Blu-Rays and Netflix w/ HDR. It's definitely a positive upgrade ;)
If HDR becomes more popular and I start needing it in my video workflow, I'll consider upgrading the UD88 to another one of these. This display WILL NOT disappoint!

4 weeks in I called again, and they had sent my monitor to LG a while ago without telling me. They said LG was supposed to contact me.
So I called LG and they told me it was being processed for return because the part was on backorder, wait some more. Fine, whatever. I called the next week as they hadn't yet contacted me and ended up talking to customer executive support. They promised I would be contacted early the next week as it was friday.
Sure enough, they didnt contact me. So I called again, and they were just as unhelpful. Their social media team on tweet has confirmed my monitor is not repairable, but no one will actually do anything to fix the monitor.
Stay away from this fault monitor and customer-hating company.
I was really looking for a 3 in 1 to be honest:-
1) Something great for gaming with 4k for PlayStation 4 pro
2) Extended Monitor for work having multiple port options (HDMI, DP, type-c, USB etc)
3) Support for Chromecast or Amazon Fire to watch YouTube/Netflix/Hotstar on the go.
It's a shame that there are hardly any decent monitors out there with type-c port. Even if there are, quite a few will only let you transfer data and NOT charge your type-c laptop.
Although, I would have preferred to go for a 32 inch 4k monitor as the experts recommend this to be the best combination, it's not really affordable at the moment to get everything I needed on a 32 inch IPS monitor.
Nevertheless, I'm glad I made the right decision as this is a one time investment for a good few years.
I would recommend this monitor to those who have a Dell XPS 13 or a MacBook pro that doesn't come with USB ports (only type c). Instead of spending 5-7k on a type c hub, it makes sense to put a few extra bucks and get this beast provided you need a monitor. Hope this helps!
There were people complaining about Black Light Bleeding. I didn't happen to notice much and I don't think anyone has to worry about it.
Overall, its an excellent buy if your pockets are deep enough.!
However, if you plan on connecting this display to your Mac mini or Apple Laptop, using HDMI, do your research.
There are times that the display will go to sleep and will be next to impossible to wake up. LG tech support blame it on Apple and or course Apple say connect with LG.
The solution - connect using USB-C and/or disable all power savings on the display and Mac, OR choose again with another display. Other than that its picture quality is exceptional.
Awesome display, game I haven't tested yet since my laptop is old and not for gaming, but picture quality is awesome...I absolutely love it. Its addition on my workstation has added extra charm, productivity has increased. Insane amount of screen real estate. Resolution 4K!!! 99.4% sRGB color accuracy. As a photographer and photo editor and digital painter its a gem for me. Speakers are okay type, although I use my alexa ecgo dot 3rd gen as speaker. Factory calibration is great, but it also has option to calibrate with software and any calibration device. You won't need to calibrate now. Viewing angle is great 178, smart energy saving goes into sleep mode automatically without having to do press anything. In fact apart from a tiny joystick button, there is no button, such a beauty!!! I wish it were true 10 bit though, but its okay with its price and you wont notice much of a difference unless you are a real pro.. Its like a universal monitor, serves a content writer, programmer, photo and video editor, gamer.. Didn't notice much of a backlight bleed honestly as some other mentions in the reviews, type c cable is a cherry on the icecream. Trust me like a tv its very bright, so u can adjust the brightness to low for best viewing experience. Just go for it
