This series focuses on a group of friends and how they each find their happily ever after. While each story is a standalone, no real cliffhangers, it's definitely fun to read the series as a whole, just so you know the supporting characters even better- not at all necessary to read in order, but it does create an even richer world for our h/H.

Now, onto Gabriel and Elizabeth... what can I say, except I loved their story so much! I always adore a good friends to lover story. Though this is a bit more of a frenemies to lovers story, as they were formerly engaged, then enemies, then back to friends... with benefits! The author did an incredible job building the tension between them, throwing in just enough obstacles to make for a great story- from villains seeking to bring down our heroine, to the main couple's pride and prejudice, the story is woven together beautifully. It's not often that I'm moved to tears by my romance novels, but yet again, Ms. St. Clair did just that! She did a fantastic job making her characters grow throughout the story, and I truly enjoy that their love re-blossoms over the course of a few months (not merely a few days like many of our stories do, just helps make it a bit more believable!).

Banking could not hold my attention as a foundation for a plot. The part where there is a run on the bank akin to the scene from the movie version of Mary Poppins…sufficed to say that the book was unintentionally funny.

Great story, great characters, a different type of story line. But good non the less. Elizabeth
Was a beautiful young lady with a mind of her own. She spent a lot of time with her grandfather the banker, and learned all he was teaching and telling her about the banking business.When he passed he left it all to Elizabeth. But he also made partner Elizabeth one time love. Can the lady banker and the bored Duke find love a second time?

A lovers to enemies to lovers, historical romance centered around a strong, intelligent woman working in a man's world.

Lady Elizabeth Moreland was the only one of her cousins to accept her grandfather's invitation to learn about banking. Her grandfather, Thomas Clarke, founded and grew his bank, Clarke & Co. to be one of the largest in England. When he unexpectedly dies and at the reading of his will, all are surprised when he leaves everything, with the exception of a few minor stipends, to Lady Elizabeth. He names her as the sole senior partner at the bank. Her cousin, Henry Clarke, is incensed and immediately tries to wrestle control away from her. Lady Elizabeth finds herself in uncharted waters in that few women of that day even worked in the banking industry, and whether the men at the bank would accept direction from her. Complicating her state of mind is a renewed interest in her by Gabriel Lockwood, Duke of Clarence. Five years previously, the two had been briefly engaged. Why was the engagement broken? What schemes does Henry use to discredit her? Do any of them work? What does Gabriel do to try and regain the trust he lost those five years ago? Though still drawn to Gabriel, what is Elizabeth's fear? What events cement Elizabeth's role as senior partner? An intriguing story of a strong, intelligent and controlled woman who holds true to herself while facing great odds and the powerful man who endeavors to regain her trust and love lost to him by his own behavior.

Truly wonderful second chance Love story

This amazing story lets us see how very hard it was for women in 1815 in London. The world was run by men and women were to do as told mostly. They were good for children, bring wealth and title to a gentleman down on his luck or after he had lost all gambling or his father had. If lucky they might find a man, they actually loved but mostly their husbands were picked for them ! Yikes, we are so lucky.
Elizabeth Moreland was luckier them most, she was the daughter of a Viscount. She was seen by the ton as a perfect Lady. But secretly she loved the time she spent with her beloved Grandfather, Thomas at his bank, Clarke & Co. He had taken a small bank and built it into the largest bank in London. She is the only one in the family who loves the financial work. She doesn't really enjoy the ton events which her mother makes her go to. Reading, learning the ledgers and all Thomas can teach her is her true love.
Then everything in her life changes, her beloved Grandfather dies, and in the reading of the will he leaves her everything including the Senior Partnership of the bank !
Gabriel Lockridge, Duke of Clarence, one of the wealthiest men in England we met in Book 2, "Lady of Fortune". Gabriel and Elizabeth have a history that is not a good one. Many years ago, the meet and become engaged. Then Elizabeth called it off suddenly and they haven't spoken since.
Gabriel is bored even with all his estates. His best friends have married and now are busy with their life's. Then he gets a unexpected visit from Elizabeth's cousin Henry asking for his help to destroy her.
He agrees only to be able to get close to her. Now the story gets really intriguing . Elizabeth is entering a man's world with many against the idea. Knowing her cousin is going to cause trouble. She is suspicious when Gabriel starts showing up whenever she needs him ? Can she trust him? Deciding to find out what's he is up to she keeps him close to watch him. Unfortunately, their past is not as over as they thought and old secrets and feeling come to light.
Wow, so much going on in this story you just can't put it down. Lies, secrets, underhanded evil man and lots of misunderstanding between two rather nice people. What will happen to the bank, will our couple be able to find happiness ? Do the nasty fellows get what they should ?
Guess you will have to start ready and find out. This is a somewhat steamy story for those who like to know. I have read all the stories in this series so far and it is hard to say which is the best, they are all so good.
I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

This is the story of Gabriel and Elizabeth, who knew each other years ago. Elizabeth always wanted to work in the banking industry, and when her grandfather dies and she inherits his fortune and his share in a bank, she is overjoyed. Elizabeth has to fight to keep her position and sometimes she does not know who to trust. Ellie St. Clair writes a compelling story, I felt all the emotions of these characters.
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.
