The vampires have the moon.
They cannot take the sun.
There are daywalkers in Jakeston, and the council wants me to stake them all before they can do more damage. With every day they remain free, they grow more powerful.
The daywalkers are feeding, but they're leaving no proof of their grisly meals. There's no blood. No hair. No bones. No drained, dead bodies.
Humans are just quietly disappearing.
No one sees the mutant vampires. These baddies don't do frenzied, public attacks. Unlike Avis Vine, they don't want to draw attention to themselves--so there is simply death that no one sees.
These daywalkers aren't eating just because they're hungry. They're devouring humans to grow their power. And somewhere out there is the magic that's keeping them going. If I find that charger, whatever it is, the daywalkers will weaken. They'll leave a trail I can follow.
But how can I find something when I don't even know what it is I'm looking for?
How can I find creatures full of magic who have no desire to be found?
If that's not enough trouble, in the middle of trying to track untrackable daywalkers, my alpha disappears. I'm afraid he's been turned and has gone into hiding...or that he's been murdered.
Then I feel him, and I know the truth.
Jared is out there, and he's alive.
Nothing will keep me from him. Not for long.
I will walk through hell to rid my city of the daywalkers and destroy their twisted magic once and for all, and I will kill the world to save the man who would've done the same for me.
And when my past comes back to haunt me, I'll have to put aside my horror over who--and what--I really am and find a way to forgive the woman I thought I could trust completely.
Someday, I'll get back the life I love. I'll work the office, talk to spirits, and enjoy my new home in Huntersburg.
But this is so not that day.
I'm a wolf shifter... who can't shift.
Twelve years ago, I was hobbled by my alpha, cast out of my pack, and forced into an unfriendly world without any protection.
But I’m not exactly helpless.
Despite being unable to shift, I have talents the others don't have. I can see the spirits of dead people, for one. And I have a knack for fighting rogue supernaturals.
My ex-alpha will never let me back in, but there's another alpha in the city.
Something has been killing his wolves, and he wants me to destroy it before it takes another one. He'll triple my going rate--but that's not the thing that makes me agree to help him.
He says he can free my wolf.
It's not possible, but...
What if it is?
I'll help him, either way. Monster hunting is what I do, and if there's a monster killing wolves, I will stop it. Because those two warring alphas might believe the city is theirs, but this is my territory.
The city embraced me when the packs wouldn't have me, and I will protect it--with or without my wolf.
My new alpha did the impossible. He freed my hobbled wolf.
And though I've craved a pack and an alpha since I was a rejected kid, I rebel against being anything less than his equal--even as my wolf worships the very ground he walks on. It makes for an interesting dynamic.
Flung headfirst into the supernaturals' world, I am no longer a lonely, agonized outcast running from the moon. My power is growing, I have amazing people around me, and the grateful mayor has set me up with an office and a legitimate job.
For a minute, everything is quiet. Too quiet. Even the demon seems to have disappeared. And all that peace is just a little unsettling.
But then a human hires me to go after the vampires--specifically the county master--and my world explodes into chaos.
Good thing I like chaos.
But when the demon returns with a vengeance, the council makes me an offer I don't want to refuse, and an infamous and scary as hell hunter blows into my life, the peace and quiet starts looking pretty damn good...
Do you know what’s stronger than a wolf shifter?
A shapeshifter is stronger than a wolf shifter.
When I discover a shapeshifting serial killer is targeting human women in my city, I have to go after him.
Even though he's more powerful than me.
Even though he says we're exactly the same.
Even though there's a connection between us.
He believes he's only taking out the trash, that the women he slaughters deserve their punishment. Too bad for him no one else agrees. They want him stopped.
And too bad for us that stopping him is nearly impossible.
The council sends me after him and tells me to bring him to them alive. They don't have to give me orders when it comes to the shapeshifter, because as long as he's free, he's going to be a danger to Lucy. And I'll do whatever I need to do to protect her.
But things get complicated when Adam Thorne has his goons attack me...
and guess who saves my life?
Yeah. The shapeshifter.
Add in a protective alpha who grows hotter with every passing night, a detective who is starting to remember things that may destroy him, and an enemy with a past that'll break your heart, and my life becomes one big chaotic mess.
What's new, right?
Then there's the dawning realization that my own past holds a long-buried secret, a secret my gut tells me I don't want to dig up. There are truths that will change everything I thought I knew about my father, my mother, and most of all, myself.
I want to keep that secret hidden in the shadows, but it's creeping out.
Slowly, inexorably, painfully, it's coming.
It's hard to concentrate on work when you've just moon-shifted with your alpha...
But the council that recruited me doesn't waste any time handing me my first assignment--and it just happens to be personal to me.
I have to slay the warped evil that is Avis Vine--a human servant so twisted and changed by her former master's bad blood magic that she's no longer really human. She's a powerful, raging creature bent on revenge and filled with darkness and bloodlust.
And making me suffer is her only goal.
But my wolf and I, we know about goals. We have goals. And we're just a little twisted ourselves.
We aren't about to wait for Avis to find us. We're going to hunt her down, and we're going to end her miserable life before she can achieve her only purpose in life--killing the people I love, the same way I killed her master.
Frederick Axton was her only reason for living, and I took him away from her.
You can see how that might piss a girl off.
And the longer I battle Avis Vine, the more I realize she's not going to be easy to end. As she blows through my city like a violent, destructive cyclone, I have to wonder...
Can I stop her before she shatters me and destroys my entire world?
She is a twisted, damaged badass. She was born to fight.
She is an unwavering, fierce defender. She was born to protect.
She is in trouble.
But she was born to survive.
No one does any of it better than Rune Alexander--and she is destined for much, much more.
I am my monster.
My monster is me.
"Laken Cane's Shiv Crew opens a monumental new urban fantasy series that promises to blow the rest of its ilk out of the water..."
Supernatural beings exist in Rune Alexander's dark world, and as an agent in her county's law enforcement, it's her job to protect the humans from the various mad vampires, evil shifters, and rogue wolves that roam her city.
When she discovers that an unknown human is abusing the supernatural groups, she and her devoted crew must break the rules and protect the Others from the humans--and they begin to realize the real monsters aren't necessarily the vampires or werewolves.
The real monsters can be all too human.
Haunted by unbearable, shameful secrets and tormented by her past, she seeks redemption in pain and searches desperately for a sweet absolution that continues to elude her.
As she and her crew become embroiled in a bloody battle to save the Others, she can't help but wonder who will save her from herself.
"Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton will love this series!"
"The best urban fantasy series out there!"
Get addicted to Rune and her crew as they fight the bad guys, live through unimaginable horror, fall in love, and deal with monsters that are sometimes all too human.
Rune and the crew--some of them a little healthier, some of them a little more battered--take on new monsters and unbelievable surprises in Blood and Bite.
While Rune is keeping her promise to Ellis and trying to get her mind fixed, the berserker goes away to take care of some business--mysterious business he doesn't share with Shiv Crew.
What he brings back with him knocks the wind out of Rune and makes her question everything she thought she knew about Strad Matheson.
But the worst is yet to come.
With a mad vampire master she must destroy, a child she must save, and unimaginable screams from a past she has to ignore, Rune has her hands full. But there is always something new and terrible waiting in River County--waiting, it seems, just for her.
Because just when she thinks she can't possibly handle one more terrible thing, she discovers a shocking truth about herself, her blood, and her bite.
But when a mysterious disease begins to destroy the River County Others, she must gear up for trouble unlike any she's ever seen.
Trouble that may force her to leave her world for an unfamiliar, hostile place inhabited by a terrifying enemy.
A world in which Damascus holds the power.
Rune knows if she's pulled into Damascus's world, she may never find her way back.
But if she doesn't go, the Others will die.
In book 6 of the Rune Alexander series, Rune must accept the fact that things are about to change.
Decisions will be made.
Hearts will shatter.
People will die.
As always, Rune and Shiv Crew will fight like the warriors they are to defeat the evil, stay together, and keep each other alive.
But this time, their fight will not be enough.
A baby necromancer calls her mother from the grave, starting a zombie infestation Rune and the crew are not prepared to handle.
But as always, they jump headlong into battle--a battle that will lead into some of the darkest moments of Rune's life. Moments that will shatter her tenuous grip on sanity and make her long for the man whose abuse allowed her to function.
And when she falls, the berserker is there to catch her. To bring her back. To give her what she needs.
The zombies are just the beginning. Worse even than the zombies is what comes after--a nightmare witch named Damascus, a horrific decision, and death.
As she is given another jagged piece to the puzzle of her past, Rune knows that despite its best attempts, life doesn't have the ability to destroy her--though she offers it all the help it might need.
With Strad Matheson and the crew behind her, Rune will stride through hell, horror, and the endless, black despair of her own mind to show the monsters why Shiv Crew is the scariest group of warriors they will ever face...
meets new allies, enters a bizarre and vaguely
familiar world, and realizes all over again that
she can never really trust anyone.
Except, maybe, the one she lost...
Sucked into Skyll by the echoes of Wormwood,
she must complete a very important task in order
to return to the world in which she belongs.
She realizes that when she does return, her world
will be changed.
If she returns.
If...because Skyll contains something more
precious to her than anything in ANY world.
But the Others of her world--all Others, including
those she loves--will die if she stays.
Either way, her choice will shatter not only her,
but those who love her.
Those who need her.
Join Rune as she walks through the world of her
creation. She'll find old faces and new enemies,
will uncover bitter secrets, and will have to fight
horror without her monster or her crew.
She will come to understand quickly that torture
and despair are the rule, and that tiny silver
threads of hope are all that keep Skyll from
plunging over the edge to be lost forever in the
black depths of hell.
But with the new regime comes changes and some monstrous enemies the Annex seems to have brought with it.
The crew finds themselves up against a group called the Shop, whose leader cares only about his lab and the monsters he creates there.
But he hasn't been able to build monsters he can use or sell...until now.
Now Rune must follow a path of horror that leads from a little werefox named Megan to a town full of evil in Reverence, Kentucky, and find a way to defeat something worse than blades or guns or bombs.
She can't use her claws on magic.
In book five of the Rune Alexander series, Rune must deal with not only the monsters, but the escalating tension between the berserker and Owen, flashbacks from the COS attack, and the fear that she's losing Levi to the chasm of darkness started by Karin Love and deepened by the slayers.
She and her crew will fight with everything they've got to defeat the evil, even if some of that darkness lives inside each one of them.
Because they're Shiv Crew, and that is what they do.
She must now fight in a changed world where the Others have been nearly obliterated and the humans are on the hunt to wipe out those who remain.
Hurt in ways from which she will never recover, she struggles to remember who--and what--she is as she dives into savage battles with an incomplete crew and a heart scarred and battered by the savage, greedy world of Skyll.
