About the Author

Kari Lynn Dell is a native of north central Montana, a third generation ranch-raised cowgirl, horse trainer and rodeo competitor, most recently the 2017 Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Association Breakaway Roping season champion. She attended her first rodeo at two weeks old and has existed in a state of horse-induced poverty ever since. She currently resides on the family ranch on the Blackfeet Reservation, loitering in her parents' bunkhouse along with her husband, son and Max the Cowdog, with a tipi on the front step, a view of Glacier National Park from her writing desk and Canada within spitting distance.

The third book of her Texas Rodeo series, Tougher in Texas, is a 2018 finalist for the Romance Writers of America's RITA® awards.

The author knows about the Blackfeet Indians as well as cowboys and the sport of roping, and yes rodeo cowboys are true athletes. She paints a picture that does nothing to diminish the trials so many native Americans are forced to endure when living on “the Res”. Some of the real hero’s of this book are the rodeo horses, their personalities and willingness to do their best leave the reader wanting to join the rodeo circuit. I had read this book before an it certainly was worth the re-read. I look forward to more by this author,

This is a novel - but it is not the typical feels-good, make-believe stuff. Kari offers an honest look at real issues on the reservation, such as substance abuse, unemployment, self esteem, positive role models, familial relationships, and legal issues surrounding the 'sovereign nation' status.
She also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a professional rodeo cowboy - who is as much an athlete as an NFL player.

The story is centered on a horse - but again, not the typical feels-good, make-believe stuff. As she portrays in this story, horses - like people - come in a vast array of personalities and aptitudes. And true-to-life, even the best roper cannot win consistently without having the right horse under him.

I am a life-long ranch cowboy who has lived and worked on both the Blackfeet and Crow reservations, and I cannot say enough about the quality and social value of this book!

Had enjoyed all the "in Texas" series, this book is so different while in a similar genre.

The book ends well before the pages do, as the beginning of Reckless in Texas follows on. It gives a false idea of the length as never do I read the end of book before I start them.
