5.0 out of 5 starsI simply cannot believe I found this on Amazon....

If you love the Navy, buy this; i won't comment on why you will like it; just buy it on DVD (and Prime).
And then loan it out. I think the more people who see this, the better.
I remember when this first aired (2012), that's the only reason I know about it. Because, before this show had even finished its first season, they canceled it and BURIED it. Just watch it, you'll see.

I bought it on Prime, but then I also purchased the DVD, because (I think) it is just a matter of time before this gets pulled and buried for good. Watch it; you'll see.

This show "Last Resort" (2012) and another show, "The Last Ship" (2014).

Both of these shows deserve a LOT of attention; especially these days. Watch both.

That's all i'm saying. You'll see.

5.0 out of 5 starsIntriguing and Compelling

I've always loved intriguing stories, and found this one had both an exciting plot and compelling characters. The series was well written, emotionally colorful, and for the most part, well acted. The characters were believable (I was in the armed forces). Although the series ended in 13 episodes, it concluded well enough to have been a satisfying miniseries. If the above first sentence suites your taste, you may really enjoy this series.

5.0 out of 5 starsThey say the best writing is on television

Time constraints being what they are, a forty five minute episode doesn't allow too much for character development. Look beyond that, though and elements of plot for this show are developed at a level which invite comparison with the various types of gasoline you can buy at the pump. There's regular, unleaded and then there's super. Plot wise, last resort seems to consistently be of the super variety, the octane of which is of the highest combustibility. Starting from the opening scene of a damaged Seal crew racing across the "Indian" ocean in search of rescue, only to be unwittingly pushed up out the water by the rescuing nuclear submarine, the plot quickens from there. The writers found a thread allowing consistently solid plot developments, each carefully calculated to escalate the tension further, while maintaining the integrity of the plot. Sort of like the most combustible of gasoline varieties with a high flammability point, allowing consistent, powerful explosions to provide the best mileage. As for the acting, the directors on the show betray an intimate knowledge of stagecraft, rarely allowing pat allusions to degrade the nobility of the emotions the characters are seeking to portray. All in all some of the most invigorating and dynamic tv out there.

4.0 out of 5 starsinteresting premise
Verified purchase
I have long been a fan of Shawn Ryan, Andre Branagher and Robert Patrick and the three together, in a show, makes for an interesting combination.
the show "last resort" is a good show with a great story line. I am a huge fan of shows like MI-5, The Unit, The Shield, and many others, so this is up my alley, so to speak. The political structure storyline about the military industrial complex brings a great angle to a "Mutiny on the Bounty" story makes for an interesting premise. With addition of some aspects of "Lost" (a mysterious tropical isle off the grid) and a little "24" ( political intrigue with men of honor) I am hoping that this show will find it's home on thursday nights and not get cancelled.
Do I like it? yes, very much so. Do i think it will find an audience? possible with the Xfiles people, the people that like shows like the aforementioned shows, yes. But TV audiences can be very fickle at times and sometimes the best of shows (Chicago Code comes to mind) can be the victim of bad scheduling. (really exactly how more years can we deal with reality based, talent based shows?) After all, Last Resort asks us to think, to comprehend and to watch not sit back and be passively entertained by overly dramatic, preening 20 somethings who want to be a star.
give it a chance people, it's good, it's entertaining and thrilling...not sanjia with a bad hair day.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat show, stinks that it was only one season

Very good show. Hubby isn't much of a TV person, and he watched the entire season with me. Bummed it was canceled, but it was obvious the writers had a heads up so they could tie up most of the loose ends. That was appreciated as when we were down to the last two shows, we were concerned we'd be left hanging.

5.0 out of 5 starsBravura performance by Andre Braugher
Verified purchase
First, a confession: I adore Andre Braugher, no matter what show he's in. That's why I bought the series to begin with. And Braugher does not disappoint in Last Resort. He portrays the tough, principled Captain Chaplin to perfection, including his emotional side. He is also supported by a strong cast.
The tense action in the series is suited to a binge viewing -- you can't wait to see what happens next. Admittedly, you have to suspend judgment to believe that the captain of a nuclear sub could hold the USA hostage, but his cause is just and the way everything plays out is highly entertaining. I would recommend the series to anyone.

This has to be one of the best new programs out this season. Last Resort has some unknown actors outside of a couple of well known ones like Andre Braugher who plays the captain of the nuclear sub. Acting and story line is superb. The premise of the series could possibly happen where the crew, who did not fire the missle into Pakistan, are considered to be guilty of doing so and are now being hunted by the US government. They are considered rogue and guilty of treason. When watching it,it does keep your attention totally and before you know it, it is over, leaving you wanting to see more and what happens next.

I give it 5 stars since it is as I mentioned one of the best new programs on and if you missed the first episode this is where you can watch it and also will agree with what I have writtem.

Engaging, well acted and great CGI effects. Good story and was an enjoyable show if you like military action/adventure fiction. Interesting how the political background is feasible in today's political climate. Definitely recommend.
