After rescuing Pamela Wellington from varmints, Will and Gid escort her to her daddy's spread – Camelot, a bright, shining 60,000-acre kingdom in the middle of Texas. But like that golden ranch of yore, there's a foul-smelling evil afoot. And it's not Gid Crockett's boots.

The boys part ways for a little while because Will wanted to do some prospecting and Gid wanted to go back and check out their old home place in Missouri. They planned on meeting up again in New Mexico to figure out where they would head next. While Will was out in the wilds looking around for a good place to do his prospecting, he ran on a small dry creek bed that had quite a few generous-sized nuggets. He looked around and climbed a couple of hills and had made up his mind that it was not the safest thing for him to be doing, just like his brother had told him. Heading back into town after marking his claim, he then sent a telegram to Gid in Thornburg, where they were going to meet, to come to Gold Hill as he had a shocking surprise for him.
Meanwhile, Gid was back in Missouri and enjoyed his visit with old friends plus checking out the farm where they grew up, then stopping by the cemetery where they buried their folks. While he was there, he ran into Jessie James, Jessie had invited him to join up with him and his brother Frank to ride again with Quantrill. They were not claiming to be fighting for the South now, they were doing it just for themselves. Gid told Jessie that if he and Will were going to come back and stay in Missouri that he might have considered it, but that was not the plan that they had right now. Afterward, he boarded the train and headed back to New Mexico to meet up with Will. Unfortunately, he met up with a few problems and the story begins.
Join Will in his search for his brother and then helping to save Gid from a necktie party that had his name written all over it…
What did I like? Well, as you know, I just love reading about these boys. They are so close and almost know what the other one is thinking. And then there is the humor that they share with each other, especially about Will’s ability to eat. They both have the values that their parents passed on to them, and being there for each other was one of the main ones.
What will you like? Laidback humor, excitement, shootouts, a little romance, more fun than a barrel full of monkeys, and that is only in the first few chapters. Get ready for an exciting read that will definitely have you burning the midnight oil. Robert Vaughan outdid himself with the excellent descriptions and details in the storyline, he just makes it come alive with everything that happens to the boys. The plot is very unique and will draw you in from the first page. Don’t miss the next adventure in the Crockett Western Sagas, “Law of the Rope” is available NOW!!!
