Leonardo DiCaprio biography gives a good view of actor's life, but has a lot of tabloid information

I'm a fan of Leo's and thought this book would be a good one to read about Leo's life. The first part of the book Douglas gives the reader good information about Leo's childhood. As Leo's career progresses Douglas begins to quote from various sources about things that may have occured in his personal life. Reading other reviews this was a problem for others reading the book because Douglas cited from various tabloid sources. I wasn't sure if Douglas ever interviewed Leo or if some of the events in his personal life were actually true. Since some of the stories were from tabloids and Douglas even questions them I'm wondering why they were included. This was a very fast read although the book is about 500 pages and the book ends around 2012. There are several pictures of Leo that are included at the end of the book from various premieres and events. I would recommend this book if someone is a fan of Leo and his career, but they may want to skip over some of the parts of his personal life.

Wright has done his homework

First I have to mention that the author, Douglas Wright, is British, so that some of the idioms, sentence structure and word usage may not be familiar to readers outside the UK.

I will give Wright credit, where credit it due. He has done his homework, although that homework was most likely reading and viewing previously documented DiCaprio articles and interviews. Wright wishes the reader to believe that many of DiCaprio's co-stars were interviewed for this work, (Kate Winslet, Russell Crowe, Martin Scorsese, Clare Danes) those "interviews" were most likely obtained in the same manner as those of DiCaprio. Thankfully, Wright has placed a lot of interesting material between two covers, but he also included a lot of non-interesting material.

The best portions and most interesting chapters of the book are what appear to be behind the scenes and on-set of DiCaprio's films. How specific film projects were chosen. Why one film was
chosen over another (American Psycho, Titanic, and no super-hero films). There are some entertaining stories relayed during the making of Leo's films, but again, all the conversations may have been previously documented. These make the book a worth while effort.

The least interesting and what I felt didn't really need to be investigated further, are DiCaprio's various relationships. Here Wright establishes himself as a tabloid expert, but yet again, giving credit to The Star, E!, World News or Entertainment Tonight. That simply isn't what interested me.

My biggest issue with this book is the repetition. Several times I found that I was reading exactly the same paragraph as I had read in an earlier chapter, word for word. There are also times
the author uses the exact quote from another chapter. There are a few typos and additionally, I am uncomfortable when an author states that a source "wished to remain anonymous."

Although there are issues, this was still an enjoyable read (less than half a day's time) but if you are looking for some profound new insight from the man himself, this isn't the place to find it.

love this book. Maybe I am biased as I am a huge Leo fan and devour anything relating to him. However, I dare anyone not to find this an interesting read. Leo is a very private person, so a book written by him is probably not going to happen, or if it does, it'll probably be well into his twilight years before one is released. Therefore, this book is the next best thing. A very fair and unbiased account of Leo and his life right up until when Titanic 3D was released and Leo was about to start filming The Great Gatsby; so now about 5 years old. An updated version would be very welcome what with Leo having adding 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and more recently 'The Revenant' to his film CV and about to start filming 'The Devil In The White City'. But until then there is this little gem to get to know the man himself. An absolute favourite of mine and takes pride of place in my bookcase.

I bought this book as I love Leonardo Dicaprio! He is my favourite actor by far and in my opinion all his films are fantastic (especially Shutter Island and The Aviator, both which he should have got Oscars for!!) Fantastic book, packed with information about the actor, is very up-to-date.The author Douglas Wight certainly knows his stuff when it comes to Dicaprio!
Also packed full of pictures of him, (looking gorgeous as ever!!)
Would recommend to anyone who is a Dicaprio fan!! :)
