I needed a white noise machine because I'm staying with a family member for a while who lives in a super creaky house next to very busy train tracks. I picked this item because it looked easy to use and had a fan sound setting.
When I received the sound machine, I was stoked—it's pretty and it's small and simple to use. I turned it on and flipped through all of the modes and decided I wanted "pink noise" to sleep by. Well, just sitting there listening it it, it sounded perfect, but when it came to being in a mostly silent room with the pink noise soundtrack on, I could hear weird and repetitive background tapping noise. Nope. Seriously?! So, I tried the first setting instead, and it was just too high pitched for me. I tried the third setting, I believe is "gray noise," and it's much better. It sounds more like a room air purifier fan. This setting had no background noises and is just a solid white noise that I can tolerate. The clothes dryer setting is comical to me. It really sounds like a clunking clothes dryer. Mind you, I mean what I say when I say "clunking." It sounds like there's a shoe in the load. The rain and thunderstorm settings sound like someone slowly pouring a water bottle into the toilet. The songs are typical lullabies, but not something for an adult to sleep to all night.
Overall, I love the machine, I just wish to gosh that they had NOT recorded background noise in their white noise machine. The entire point behind a white noise machine is to NOT hear background noise. So weird. Hopefully they will re-record that pink noise setting one day.
EDIT after 2 weeks. I have to return it. My husband hates it because when he tries to turn it off, he turns on the light instead or when he tries to turn the volume up, the machine slides across the table because you have to hold it down so it doesn't move (which powers it on/off and turns on the light) so he tries to just push the button which moves it. I've been told it has to go.
