How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsStrong recommendation for horror fans.

Evening everyone Don P here with a review of Library of Nightmares an anthology written by Ray Scrivener. Here we have 15 stories wrapped up in a fitting book cover all filled with nightmarish tales of betrayal, loss, unnatural greed and hopelessness. From monsters to serial killers, no one is safe from Ray's pen with clear and ominous descriptions of terror. One of my favorite stories is the exoplanet where the story takes you far into the depths of space and deep into the pit of humanity.

To anyone who wishes to read this book, strap in because you're in for thrilling tales and as the title says, Nightmares.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood mindless reading
Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2022
The stories in this complication have good ideas behind them, but they don't feel like actual stories. They read like story outlines before being fleshed out. There are jumps in them that are supposed to be stylistic but which are merely confusing or annoying. As an example, the hero is cradling his girlfriend in his arms. Suddenly he is walking to investigate noises in the front of the cabin carrying a rifle. There aren't the necessary steps to provide proper flow. It is as if he wants to jump to the end without fleshing out the middle.

Another annoyance is the lack of proper grammar. Punctuation serves a purpose. If you are going to try to express thoughts to others, the use of punctuation to make those thoughts clear is relevant and a necessary skill.

I respect people who are trying to work at a craft. I understand that they are participating in online workshops. But unless they are working with already successful writers they aren't getting adequate guidance. Unless they are willing to put in the work with serious study of grammar they aren't ready. Unless they are willing to hire professional editors they aren't ready. Not everyone who wants to be an author is an author. Most should be writing more and more and more works before offering them for sale. I would have liked to see these outlines when they have made it into true story form, because I think there is potential there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sheer death & despair, yet pleasantly entertaining

She led me through the endless gloom and I followed, Ray Scrivener wrote. Scrivener has some catching writing in "Library of Nightmares." A vast array of bizziare and disturbing short stories make this book what it is, a true horror book, complete with gruesome ends among the victims. "Library of Nightmares" contains more then a dozen stories and each one is unique in its pillar of inconddescence. In "Heart of Ice," a monterous and narfarous love is shared with its malevolent monsters. 'Smiling with needle fangs, she accepted the juicy organ and snuggled next to her valentine'. ("Heart of Ice") The plots of the stories were often ludicrous to me, but Scrivener has a catchy writing style that hooked me into "Library of Nightmares A Haunting collection of Short Stories."

Pretty good though a!it of the series are familiar, perhaps read before or similar to others in the same vein.

VINE VOICE
3.0 out of 5 stars Safe and Predictable Horror Collection
Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2022
The Library of Nightmares is a collection of fourteen (though the description states thirteen) flash fiction horror tales. I was excited to see this short collection offered through Kindle Unlimited because I love flash fiction, and I love tales of horror and things that go bump in the night. My excitement faded after I read the first offering.

Scrivener’s collection starts with a quaint tale of body horror titled Monsters in the Flesh. Now, I say quaint because the story itself was predictable, reminded me of many television episodes, and was neither good nor bad. The second story, A Grave Mistake, possessed more potential and presented a fun graveyard tale. But again, it was predictable and reminiscent of so many other graveyard-inspired tales.

The remaining journey through Scrivener’s tales was the same “safe” journey, with none of the stories standing out from the rest. Scrivener’s writing style is a tad too distant, but that is to be expected with flash fiction. However, the grammatical errors, stylistic choices, and formatting left something to be desired. Another trip through the editing and proofreading process was needed.

Overall, The Library of Nightmares provided a safe journey through the wading pool of horror flash fiction. I am sure many will enjoy this collection, but for me, Scrivener played it too safe with many of the tales and didn’t make the theme their own. I would pick up another book by them and give them another chance because there is something in their voice, but it’s muffled in this collection.
