Thought I would give it another chance to redeem itself. Terrible writing. Characters unbelievably awful. Her partner calling her "Blondie" throughout the entire two books was sexism at its lowest. Cannot understand the 5 star reviews. Not for me.
The level of society is quite high but the details of Manhattan are exactly as I remember them. Obviously, the author knows the island quite well. The UK passage is a bit of parody but is mildly significant for the narrative.
This Book 2 of the Cooper series I can recommend - it is not particularly original in any way but a nice recreational reading when you nothing better to do.
As the story unfolds, we find that Dr. Dogen is a demanding teacher who expects the same standards from her neurosurgery students that she expects of herself. We also learn that within the hospital/medical school and beyond, there are more possible suspects than anyone could have anticipated - from the homeless population living in tunnels in NYC to Alex's latest love interest. The story of how Alex and her co-workers, including the NYPD detectives, solve the case kept my interest until the end.
If you enjoy mysteries, particularly the Alexandra Cooper series, you will find this book well worth reading.
