Blog postForget Black Friday.Forget Football.Forget Shopping or eating leftovers. My four-day weekend, which I’d planned to spend with family and friends was spent fighting the flu. For a while, I was certain I was losing the battle, and before you ask, yes, I had the shot. Worse yet, I came down with it Thanksgiving evening, so there’s a chance I infected my whole family. At least I had a fun time doing it, right? Our family got together and had a great time with cousins, sib7 years ago Read more

Blog postA few years ago my editor was visiting and he said he had a great idea for a new book. Since we often work out plot details together, I was excited to hear what he had to say.
He said, “I’d like to see a story where the killer only kills in winter.”
I said, “Okay, but why does he only kill in winter?”
His reply? “I don’t know.”That was his great idea? A killer who only kills in winter? Not a lot to go on. Surprisingly though, just that lit7 years ago Read more -
Blog postThanksgiving and Christmas are bittersweet this year. In the last month my family has lost two wonderful people. Aunt Susie was a ray of sunshine, who had a smile for everyone. Outgoing and effervescent, she was the mother of my two first cousins and I never saw her without her signature grin. She was married to Uncle Blair my mother’s brother who passed away over thirty years ago. Cousin Dave said everyone in her family was a smiler, which I’d not noticed, but7 years ago Read more

Blog post“To kids from one to ninety-two . . .” Or so the lyrics of The Christmas Song go as I remember them. Well, in my case it’s “from five to ninety-three.” I’ve been off work for a week, but staying at home. Yesterday I helped my ninety-three year old aunt put on her shoes, then later, I heard my grandson call out “G-Ma, can you help me with my shoes?” Yes, sir, I can! Blog postThis week I took down the Halloween decorations, well except for the yellow Crime Scene tape which is still cordoning off the office where I’ve started stashing Christmas gifts. The tape is supposed to keep the grandkids out. (Yeah, right.) Anyway, I hated to see the jack-o-lanterns, black cats and witches leave, but I guess there’s a time for everything and I’m already turning my sites onto Thanksgiving and Christmas. Blog postYeah. I talk a lot about hating the holiday season start around Labor Day. I mean, you can buy Christmas wrap in the stores when August is barely over. And artificial trees are lit in the big box stores by Halloween, which kind of frosts me. But . . . yes, I have partaken. I’ve bought the wrap early, the occasional gift in July, if I see “just the right thing” for someone on my list, but I try not to get into the spirit too early. I think it ruins7 years ago Read more

Blog postI started off November realizing that the smart phones/clocks/televisions/whatever are smarter than I am. Sheesh. I woke up knowing full well that I needed to set my clock back, so I waited as long as I could stand it and finally got up. I still thought it was around 4:30 and it was sooo dark out. What did I know? Then I looked at my phone. It agreed with the clock that hadn’t been set back, but the oven and microwave were still an hour a7 years ago Read more

Blog postSo, I've recently jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon. And I have to be honest, I don't think I really understand it. But OK, I'll try and figure it out.
I do have to say, it's fun to get on there and look through the other "pins." I've found some really fun stuff. And it's also been kind of handy for me, looking for different pins related to New Orleans or Montana. Blog postOk, Labor Day has come and gone for this year and you know what that means, autumn is on its way! Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year. The leaves turning, the air cooling, pumpkin-flavored anything, evenings by the fire. Oooooh, I get that cozy feeling just thinking about it.
I also love autumn because it's the best time for me to write. Like I said, a nice fire, something warm to drink, I can really get lost in the lives I'm writing about! Right now I'm just getting settled10 years ago Read more -

Blog postWow. I had a great time in New York City for Thrillerfest. But, I didn’t work the whole time I was back East. Aside from trying out some new restaurants, we went to a Broadway play, Jersey Boys and tripped down memory lane! Has she already had her last chance to be the final girl?
All her life, she’s been the girl who survived. Orphaned at age seven after a horrific killing spree at her family’s Oregon cabin, Kara McIntyre is still searching for some kind of normal. And suddenly, Kara is receiving cryptic messages from her big sister, Marlie—who hasn’t been seen or heard from since that deadly Christmas Eve when she hid little Kara in a closet with a haunting, life-saving command: Don’t make a sound.
As people close to her start to die horrible deaths, Kara, who is slowly and surely unraveling, believes she is the killer’s ultimate target.
Kara survived once. But will she survive again? How many times can she be the girl who survived?

For Nikki, the discovery is a gift, the perfect subject for her next crime book—though Reed has made her promise not to keep involving herself in dangerous police business. But despite the increasing tension between them, Nikki can’t stay away from this story. Rumors are widespread that the burial site is the resting place of the Duval sisters—three young girls who went to the movies with their older brother, Owen, twenty years ago, and never returned. Forensics confirms that the remains belong to Holly and Poppy Duval. But where is the youngest sister, Rose?
Owen Duval was, and remains, the prime suspect, alibi or no. But as Nikki and Reed delve deep into the mystery, fractures in the case begin to show. There is more to the sisters’ disappearance than anyone ever guessed. Far from an isolated act, those deaths were just the beginning. And there will be no rest, and no relenting, until the killer has buried the twisted truth along with his victims…

Then her father hires Brig McKenzie, a handsome troublemaker who ignites a storm of rivalry. By summer’s end, a fatal fire rages through the Buchanans’ sawmill, tearing the family apart—and Brig disappears, presumed guilty of arson.
Seventeen years later, Cassidy has never stopped trying to uncover the truth about that terrible crime. Now married to Brig’s brother, Chase, she’s come back to Prosperity to find closure. Instead, she encounters a fresh nightmare. Another fire is set, deliberate and deadly. Some view Cassidy as a suspect—others believe she’s the target. WHEN A KILLER HAS NOTHING TO LOSE
The crime scene is as puzzling as it is brutal. Doctor Paul Latham and his wife, Brindel, are found dead in separate beds in their beautiful San Francisco home, each the victim of a gunshot wound to the head. She and Brindel weren’t close, and Pescoli barely knows her teenage niece, Ivy, a secretive girl who lands on her doorstep in Grizzly Falls, Montana. Though Pescoli is on maternity leave, she’s soon mired deep in the investigation headed by her partner, Selena Alvarez. But as the list of suspects keeps growing, so does the body count . . .
TO BE AFRAID . . .
Maybe it’s exhaustion or hormones that have Pescoli on edge, feeling more vulnerable than ever before. Or maybe the chill running through her veins is justified. Because as the case takes a new, terrifying turn, Pescoli’s loved ones and her life are at the mercy of a killer who’ll go to any lengths to see her suffer . . .
