And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favorite hobby: making bread. But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local bee keeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes . . . and people start to hear about it.
Sometimes, bread really is life . . . and Polly is about to reclaim hers.

Review
"On the surface, Colgan's latest appears to be a cute book about baking, but there is much more depth and emotion here than initially meets the eye. At times lighthearted and funny, and at times contemplative and deep, this novel is a real gem. The descriptions of bread and bread making, coupled with recipes, make the book an immersive experience. Add to this charming, small-town life, love, and friendship, and readers will truly delight in the time spent reading this splendid tale."
-- "RT Book Reviews (41/2 stars, Top Pick!)"This confection of a novel. . . . will please her fans and can be recommended to readers who enjoy novels by Jill Mansell and Jojo Moyes.-- "Booklist"

Why does any author willingly choose to alienate a significant portion of the world who are offended at “Jesus” or “Christ” as a swear word?
Culture today doesn’t even flinch at Polly having three sex partners in one book. There are really good writers out there who do not celebrate amorality. Glad I know a whole lot of them already. Bye, Jenny.
Little Beach Street Bakery follows a 32 year old woman named Polly who falls into a financial crisis, splits from her long term boyfriend, and moves to a quaint, seaside village in England. She befriends a group of local fishermen, and rediscovers her love for baking. Reading this book was like the equivalent of wrapping myself in a warm blanket… a blanket made out of thick slices of toast slathered in jam and butter.
I found myself relating so much to Polly. Moving to a new city, trying to fit in, healing an injured animal (there is a PUFFIN in this book, people!), and just trying to navigate a new life. I felt so much for her! Also, I dare you to read this book without getting hungry. You will want to eat ALLLL the bread! This book was such a delicious treat, and a perfect vacation read.
A wonderful summer read - or anytime read for that matter.
I enjoyed the characters. Polly is witty, a hard worker, and generous, but she's got her dark side, too. Her two love interests seemed like real people; in fact, none of the characters were cartoonish, all having multiple dimensions. I particularly enjoyed Polly's cynical best friend Kerensa, and her love relationship with the oddball genius Reuben. Funny and emotional, this series is off to a fine start.

Meanwhile, Polly realises that her tiny savings won't get her a flat in Plymouth, the best she can hope for is a grotty room in student accommodation, and she is both over-qualified and too old for every job being advertised. Then she sees a property listed in Mount Polbearne, a tidal island she used to visit on school trips as a child.
Somehow ,Polly ends up renting a derelict flat above a disused bakery in Polbearne where she soon makes friends with the local fishermen and baking bread surreptitiously for the other residents on the island. Featuring a wounded puffin, a reclusive bee-keeper, a reclusive American tech billionaire, a themed wedding and more carbs than you shake a stick at, I guess you can call this quirky. Randomly I've read the fourth book in this series already, so I was no stranger to Neil the puffin, although this does explain how he came to be Polly's pet/friend.
Although not without its heartaches, this is a cosy small-town romance to make you smile.

The story made me laugh, definitely cry and want to go and live in that sleepy Cornish town across the cause-way, it sounds right up my street. I want to bake bread and keep bees...well maybe just eat the honey. Jenny's characters are so genuine, they are real and humorous, they have life's ups and down that we all go through. Tough choices and rays of hope, like the sun glinting on the sea.
I loved the characters, all of them, even the annoying ones. The grabbed my attention from page one and kept me reading. I had to finish and stayed up till two in the morning.
If you are a romantic at heart then this it the book for you. A really lovely story.

Polly is recovering from a broken relationship and a heavy burden of bankruptcy which has not only taken her home but everything she believed in.
Polly was a lovely character with a heart of gold and she decides there was only one option and that was to leave Plymouth her hometown and take a break from everyone and everything she knew. Her search for a new home takes her to a small Island which was situated off the coast of Cornwall. This Island was small yet beautiful, filled with characters who were soon to become Polly's friends.
This book had it all, filled with characters who lived each day in beauty but the dangers of sea fishing were made true when a tragedy brings Polly to her knees in grief yet how the community drew together showed her what true friendship really meant.
Little Beach Street Bakery written by Jenny Colgan was a book which I know I will return too, the writing was breathtaking as Jenny Colgan writes with wonderful descriptions which showed not only the beauty of the Island but her descriptions of the people brought the wonderful characters to the front of the story where I could understand how Polly loved the people of this island and made it her home. I loved how Jenny Colgan showed Polly's love of bread and her talent for baking mended her broken heart while taking her life in a different direction from the one she knew yet that same love of bread reached out to strangers in such a brilliant way I could almost smell it as the author's descriptive writing had me gripped throughout.
Little Beach Street Bakery written by Jenny Colgan was a wonderful read which I loved from page one, I am happy to recommend it to other readers of female fiction yet this was no chick lit this was a book which showed how human emotion could hold while life around you was falling apart.
