The politically correct re-telling of the classic story... no wood cutter to come save granny and Little Red. The wolf leaps at Red Riding Hood, tumbles out the window, and is never seen again. Do not recommend

This summer I purchased tickets for a Children's theatre production of Little Red Riding Hood for my 2 girls and then it dawned on me that they didn't know the story! So I got this book to prepare us for that and they really like it! I loved the different ending of the book; it was much more readable and friendly for my little girls. Illustrations are adorable and we've since have read the books many times since then.

Based on the reviews and "spoilers" that said the wolf doesn't eat them up, I bought it for my 4 year old after the original version terrified him. He LOVES the friendly looking wolf - huge plus (the last book we had he was so scary we put a sticker to cover his face) but the wolf still talks about wanting to eat grandma and little Red Riding Hood which troubled him, so I knocked off a star for wanting to eat each of them.

The retelling is generally good, but the author totally changes the classic tale to avoid things which some kids may find scary. I think that effectively changes the story from the tale that had been handed down for generations. If you're don't mind that change, you'll probably love it.

I bought this book looking for a way to introduce my daughter to the classic story in a way to her that she would enjoy. I remember reading the story when I was a child, and I pretty much to use my imagination as there were no illustrations. Not only are there wonderful pictures, but the ending is more age-appropriate than the original.
For the most part, the book follows the original story pretty closely. However, the author adds in advice here and there to children, such as, " Never Talk to Strangers," and other things you would like your child to remember. The illustrations are wonderful, and keeps kids interested in the story and the lessons behind it.
The ending is a lot better in my opinion, as the "Big Bad Wolf" doesn't chomp down and eat anyone. My daughter was only three when I purchased this book, and I was pleasantly surprised to see an alternate ending.
The story flows well, and there aren't any boring parts that will leave kids bored. The version I read years ago was a bit more elaborate, but I clearly remember wanting to skip pages and get to the good part. Everything is the "good part" with this book, according to my daughter, who was glued to the book through its entirety.
Again, I just can't say enough about the illustrations. Illustrations are an important factor to young children, and each page was filled with beautifully illustrated characters that went along perfectly with the story.
There are a ton of "Little Red Riding Hood" books available out there, but this one is one of my favorites. If you are looking for more age-appropriate material for small children, this would be the perfect pick.

Cute book. Glad that in this new revised story, no one dies. Bought it for my 2 year old granddaughter but I could not get her to sit through the entire story because it's more wordy than most of her books. Will wait until she is a few months older.

I purchased this book for my 2 year old because I've always loved this story as well as the other Brothers Grimm stories. I don't like subjecting my daughter to negativity so the way this book was written was ideal. The only reason why I'm giving this book a 4 out of 5 star rating is because it wasn't written just like the Brothers Grimm version that I myself love.
Another thing I love about this book is it's one out of a collection of books. You can get Rip Van Winkle, Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks, Big Red Hen, etc etc and all of the books match allowing you to have quite a large library of these books alone. Not only that, but they're all sold at such an affordable price.
So far, this is the only book I've gotten out of this collection, but I am definitely going to be purchasing as many as I can find. The illustrations are great, the story is great and perfect for your little ones. It allows children to love these stories as such a tiny age so they can appreciate and enjoy the real versions once they're older.
