The outline for a decent movie.

This movie is just fair to good. It has excellent actual footage of WW2 bomb damage to London and does a good job of creating the atmosphere of the city and people under almost daily German bombing attacks. The acting is good but the movie is too short to adequately develop the characters and the plot. There is no explanation as to how Rawlings and George identify the traitors they kill. Nor any good explanation as to why they have to kill them instead of turning them over to authorities. One of the weakest and most undeveloped segments concerns Mary's Dutch friend Peter. There is not enough development of Rawlings to explain why Peter has sympathy for him. Neither is any reason given as to why he would be tempted to continue Rawlings' self-imposed mission or how he would be able to identify targets if he did. I also noticed that Peter had no rank insignia or unit identification on his uniform. We are left with not a movie but with a sort of an outline for a potentially good movie.

As an old film buff I loved it. Every once in a while I love to watch an old film I have never seen with actors I do not know this one was a winner. You don't know until the end who the bad guy really is!! I would recommend it to all old film buffs.

Worth checking out...

I love classic movies and this one is pretty good. I recognize some of the supporting actors from some of the old Sherlock Holmes' and Thin Man movies. Not really a mystery, but it is a good story and worth checking out.

Fun, compact

Fun, compact, Republic Pictures romp with Abbott in fine form. Plays like a wartime Universal Sherlock Holmes picture if Holmes was a serial killer (who only kills traitors). Delightful.

In these days of home grown terrorist this plot pales by comparison in scope, but taken in the context of the times, it warrants an extra star for resourcefulness if nothing else.

I'm a big fan of old black & white movies, British ones being my favorite. I enjoyed the story line of this one, very suspenseful but no blood & guts or horror. Very enjoyable!

A Unique Wartime Mystery

Absorbing story, done well. The few short patriotic messages are interesting and completely understandable...this was made during the war, afler all.
